About

This Is Where I Post From is a catchphrase that's used to caption image macros of obscure or decrepit settings in order to represent where the meme creator is posting content from. Its first use was on Twitter in late 2019 using the precursor phrase This Is Where I Tweet From, however, the trend took off en masse in late 2021 on Instagram.

Origin

On August 10th, 2019, Twitter^[1] user k_wall15 posted a tweet that captioned a photo of a dark, dingy computer set-up with, "This is where I tweet from btw," earning 12 likes in three years (shown below).

On November 7th, 2019, Twitter^[2] user ramona_lf posted a tweet that captioned a screenshot from the arcade game NARC with, "this is where i post from" (shown below, left). The tweet received only two likes in three years despite being its first known usage. On November 8th, 2019, Twitter^[3] user definefed posted a similar tweet to k_wall15's, captioning a photo of a bathtub with a dildo, "this is where i tweet from," earning 14 likes in three years (shown below, right).

Spread

Despite early usage on Twitter, the trend didn't take off en masse until late 2021 on Instagram among circles of shitposters on the app. On October 26th, 2021, Instagram^[4] page big_chungles captioned a photo of a dark tunnel with, "this is where i post from," earning roughly 8,800 likes over the course of six months (shown below, left). Soon after, more Instagrammers hopped onto the trend. The next account to do so was Instagram^[5] page atl.irony on October 26th, 2021. Their meme received 16 likes in six months (shown below, right).

Big_chungles' meme was reposted^[6] by multiple accounts going into the rest of 2021. Going into early 2022, creators on the platform started to post their own versions. For instance, on February 20th, 2022, Instagram^[7] page mystical.asf posted an iteration that received roughly 16,700 likes in two months (shown below).
