It's a truth universally acknowledged that the internet loves cats and hates Cats, the upcoming film adaptation of one of the most inexplicably popular musicals in Broadway history. Cats the Musical is not actually about anything. It's essentially a musical revue of cats singing songs about themselves until they decide which one of them gets to die. It's something of a miracle the show became the international phenomenon considering its light plot, wacky costumes, and Andrew Lloyd Webber score. It's even more bewildering that people believed that they could turn that premise into a film. Nevertheless, Tom Hooper's star-studded Cats is coming, and the world was introduced to its nightmarish hellscape on July 18th when the first trailer dropped.

People reacted to the trailer with horror at the CGI fur the film employs, while others have argued that the look of the film is true to the spirit of the musical, for better or worse. But while debate rages about the look of the Cats film, we have plenty of memes to tide us over.
