Have you seen a viral video in which an animated aircraft bounces off a skyscraper with a cartoonish sound, continued by a jingle for an Indian cement company Nagarjuna Cement? If you thought that making a 9/11 reference in your advertisement would be in bad taste, Nagarjuna Cement would agree with you, because the supposed advertisement you saw is actually a fake stitched from two different videos. Learn who made the animation and more below.

Is Nagarjuna Cement A Real Company?

Nagarjuna Cement is a real company located in Suryapet. The company produces and supplies cement to construction companies and other businesses in India.

In May 2021, Nagarjuna Cement released an advertisement starring brand ambassador Varun Tej. The last part of the advertisement would later appear in the viral video.

Where Does ‘Nagarjuna Cement Ad’ Meme Come From?

On February 20th, animator Wraysque posted a 3D animation of an aircraft bouncing off the World Trade Center with Bonk sound effect to YouTube and Instagram. The post was later removed from Instagram, but was reuploaded by other users and shared on Discord.

Prior to March 9th, user @ahaa_aditya took two videos and stitched them together, as if Nagarjuna Cement was making a 9/11 reference in their advertisement by saying that if World Trade Center was made of their cement the September 11th, 2001, attacks would have comically failed. While the video was later deleted by @ahaa_aditya from their accounts, it went viral through reposts.

Did Nagarjuna Cement Comment On The Fake Ad?

On March 19th, 2024, Nagarjuna Cement issued a statement on their X / Twitter account, clarifying that the circulated video was fake and they had nothing to do with it.
