TikTokers have started using the slang term "Dior bags" to talk about something that TikTok's allegedly censored: the drone sightings over New Jersey.

So-called "DroneTok" has quickly become "DiorTok" as word of the Algospeak replacement has spread on the app. The use of "Dior bags" is rooted in conspiracy theory thinking, but the people already with their tin foil hats on don't care. They want to talk about "Dior bags" no matter what they have to call them.

So, where did saying "Dior bags" come from? Why is this a trend? Let's explain.

What Does 'Dior Bags' Mean On TikTok?

"Dior bags" is a code word for "drones," concerning the alleged drones flying over New Jersey and the American east coast.

There has been a lot of online discourse about these mysterious reports coming out of the Garden State. Even high-ranking New Jersey lawmakers have corroborated the drone sightings happening in late 2024.

It's unclear what they are or who's flying them. It could be foreign agencies, the U.S. military itself or even extraterrestrials. Regardless, the White House isn't shedding much light, evident in National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby's statement to the press.

So, with little info, speculation has run rampant.

Also, for those out of the fashion loop, Dior is short for Christian Dior, a luxury designer brand from France. Dior is known for many items like handbags which are some of the most coveted and expensive purses in the world.

The company's been the subject of memes before, like when actor Robert Pattinson modeled for them. He looked like a "potion seller" according to one Twitter user.

Who Started The 'Dior Bags' TikTok Trend?

A TikToker named Bethenny Frankel (@bethennyfrankel) was the first to call drones "Dior bags" in a video from last week.

Frankel has been on the drone beat for over a month now. However, she realized that her videos on the subject began attracting less views, like, a lot less views. In one video, she said that she received "only 500 views" on one of her drone-related videos, causing her skepticism to spike.

Why Are People Using 'Dior Bags' On TikTok?

"Dior bags" has become a code word for "drones" because people are afraid of using the word "drones" on TikTok. Like Bethenny Frankel, people who've been talking about these New Jersey sightings for months now have noticed a significant decrease in viewership.

These people are already conspiracy-brained, so a sudden change sounded an alarm in their heads.

Ultimately, it's unconfirmed if TikTok is censoring drone-related content. Another likely outcome is that people have simply moved on to the next news cycle and aren't as interested in the plane-shaped flying objects moving in American airspace.
