What Is 'Ice Cream Hair?' The Zoomer Haircut That's Gaining Memes On TikTok Explained

The latest hairstyle for Gen Z and Gen Alpha boys is being called "Ice Cream Hair." Why? Because it supposedly looks like a scoop of ice cream.
The custard look has become rather popular in high schools across America, replacing the original Broccoli Haircut, which was the first to make Millennials go, "Huh?"
However, the jokes and memes at the expense of Ice Cream Kids, typically depicted as white boys, aren't only coming from the older generations. Zoomers are also mocking the archetype, sometimes calling it the "Baseball Haircut" (for reasons we'll get to later).
So, where did the Ice Cream Haircut come from? Who started it and why is it getting the meme treatment on TikTok and Twitter / X? Let's explain.

Why Is It Called 'Ice Cream Hair'?
The haircut in question is characterized by a flat dome of hair that's then flipped out at just the tips, forming a ring of curled-up bangs around the person's head.
A scoop of ice cream, when placed into a cone, always has a little ridge, showing the shape of the ice cream scoop. That visual is where the Zoomer hairstyle gets its signature name.

h2. Where Did The 'Ice Cream Hair' Meme Come From?
Traces of the "Ice Cream Hair" stereotype can be traced back to 2022 when a video of a kid blowing the tips of his hair into a curled shape was compared to a scoop of ice cream.
The TikTok account of @overtime shared it and gained a massive response. They credited an Instagram user named @sewyzandreo, but the video is no longer on his account.
What's The 'Ice Cream Hair' WikiHow Meme?
A lot of people are using two images from the website WikiHow to represent the Ice Cream Hair stereotype as reaction images and caption memes. One shows a blonde white kid with blue eyes. The other shows a brunette.

On TikTok, jokes using the art are often captioned, "Yeah, I play baseball," mocking the kids who have the haircut because, apparently, a lot of them play baseball.
The memes are often in this format. One of the WikiHow images is attached and a caption, meant to be something that the kid is saying, is added. Another popular one has the kid saying, "Yeah, I like Ken Carson," among other artists whom boys his age typically enjoy.

What Are Some More 'Ice Cream Hair' Memes?
"Ice Cream Hair" memes are popping off because this hairstyle is seemingly everywhere. Any teacher or parent knows that it's all the rage.
For instance, the WikiHow article is literally for kids and parents who want to do the Ice Cream Haircut themselves.
People are now looking to encapsulate the Ice Cream Hair archetype. Memes help people characterize and categorize the characters in modern society as new ones pop up and take over. Starter Packs are an obvious example of this.
