What Is 'Sprunki'?

Sprunki is a mod for the popular music-creation video game and tool Incredibox created by NyankoBfLol. In its native state, Incredibox allows players to place a selection of hats onto a lineup of characters, which transform the character and make them sing or play a specific melody. In the Sprunki mod, players are similarly given a lineup of gray characters that become colorful and begin playing music when given one of the hats along the bottom of the screen.

However, if you place the black hat on one of the characters, things get a bit disturbing. The sky becomes pitch black and filled with floating eyes. The sounds each character makes when you place a hat on them are much more harsh than before. Most notably, the hats now transform each character into a damaged, horrific version of themselves, hinting at some dark lore behind the Sprunki universe that fans have been eager to fill out.

How Is Social Media Reacting To 'Sprunki'?

In September 2024, Incredibox players discovered Sprunki and quickly learned how to access its "horror mode" by placing the black hat on one of the characters. That month, several videos of players sharing their songs made with the game, which include them switching to horror mode, went viral. This, in turn, inspired a wave of reaction and Let's Play videos about the "dark secret" behind the game.

The game's fanbase has only continued to grow since September, inspiring countless videos on YouTube and TikTok about the game's characters and lore.
