About
Jon Hamm Dancing In the Club Scene or Jon Hamm "Turn the Lights Off" Trend, also known as the Jonn Hamm Trend, is a meme trend based on a scene from the Apple TV series Your Friends & Neighbors in which actor Jon Hamm, playing the character Andrew Cooper, bathed in blue light, dances at a club to the song "Turn the Lights Off" by Kato and Jon Nørgaard. The scene first became the subject of memes among Russian TikTokers and Instagram Reels users in October 2025 as a way of representing the feeling of coping with negative circumstances, "dancing through the pain" and general feelings of desiring something more from life, with the memes often featuring captions that use the phrase, "What else do you want?"
The Jon Hamm Dancing meme spread to English-speaking social media users in November and December 2025 as a way of representing similar feelings of joy or nostalgia. In memes, the poster often lifts their head in the same way as Jon Hamm before smoothly transitioning to the clip.
Origin
On March 18th, 2025, Apple TV rolled out a series of ads on social media, including on YouTube,[1] for its TV series Your Friends & Neighbors. The show is about a disgraced hedge fund manager, Jon Hamm's Andrew "Coop" Cooper, who starts robbing his wealthy neighbors after losing his job and getting divorced.
The promo clip uses a scene from season one, episode eight, titled "When Did We Become These People?" in which Jon Hamm dances in a nightclub under blue light to the song "Turn the Lights Off" by Kato and Jon Nørgaard. In the scene, the character Barney invites Coop and Nick to go on a bender and clubbing after Nick punches Coop in the face.[2]
On October 11th, Russian TikToker[3] @guantannaa posted a video starting with a clip of two people dapping each other up under a caption that roughly translates to, "When everything is going swimmingly: I worry, I stress, I get worked up and scold myself for not doing enough." The video then cuts to footage of Jon Hamm dancing under the caption, "Me when everything really goes to hell." The post gained over 259,000 views in two months and is one of the earliest known examples of the meme.

Spread

For example, on October 18th, 2025, TikToker[4] @angelizabethh_ posted a version of the trend reading, "You've grown up, started working, improved your diet, exercise regularly, and restored your sleep pattern. What else do you want?" followed by, "What I want:" over the video of Jon Hamm, garnering over 590,000 views in two months.

The trend was popularized outside of Russia in November through December 2025 and is often used in a similar context to express joy or a desire for something. In many of these videos, the subject raises their head and closes their eyes while transitioning to the dancing clip.
The trend was largely spread outside of Russia when TikToker[5] @britt_bbrown posted a video on November 28th, 2025, that starts with the caption, "When you're over 40, married, with kids and a career. What else do you want?" followed by the Jon Hamm clip under the caption, "Me:," garnering over 73,000 views in a week.

On December 5th, TikToker[6] @makoandkonasmom posted a version of the meme using the dancing clip to represent the feeling of joy when you pet a dog, and their owner says that they don't usually like people, garnering over 2.7 million views in three days.
@makoandkonasmom How can I describe this feeling
On December 7th, 2025, TikToker[7] @thatgingerbrandon posted a version of the meme referencing a scene in Final Destination 2 in which one of the characters is killed by logs falling off the back of a truck. In the meme, the man sees the logs, embraces his death, and then the video cuts to the dance scene, garnering over 2.7 million views in a day.
Multiple websites posted explainers and articles about the meme in early December, including Just Jared[8] and The Tab.[9]
