Who Is 'Jiafei?' The Stan Twitter And FlopTok Idol Explained
Ever since the skinny woman walked sideways, TikTok and Twitter have been obsessed with an Asian woman named Jiafei. Specifically on so-called FlopTok, Jiafei has captivated many online, inspiring various memes and fan edits.
There is a certain mystery to Jiafei because, well, she's not a real person. In fact, she's completely Photoshopped, but that doesn't make her any less of a girlboss.
Curious about who Jiafei is and why she's such a big meme? Let's explain.
Who Is 'Jiafei?'
Although she might look real, Jiafei is not a real person. She might look AI-generated, but she's also not that either. Instead, Jiafei is a Photoshopped combination of K-pop stars Wang Feifei and Meng Jia.
How Did 'Jiafei' Become A Meme?
The Jiafei meme started in May 2021, when automated bot accounts appeared on TikTok that all used the same picture of Jiafei for their profiles. The similar bot accounts also used similar usernames, predominantly including the imaginary name Jiafei.
These Jiafei bots spammed absurd product advertisements sourced from unnamed Douyin accounts. For those who aren't aware, Douyin is the Chinese version of TikTok.
Soon after the appearance of these Jiafei bot accounts, they flooded the "For You" pages of TikTokers seemingly at random. Thereafter, the concept of "Jiafei" became surrounded by ironic adoration. TikTokers satirically became obsessed with Jiafei and started making memes that championed her.
