The video has inspired an entire meme trend on the app in which gingers come together to learn how to navigate this new information.

What Is The 'Gingers Are Black' Video?
The claim that all gingers are Black comes from TikToker @scorpiostellyla1meramera, also known as Deiaratherootworker.
On May 6th, 2025, she posted a video that now boasts over 57 million views in which she claims, without context, that all gingers are Black, even if they have white skin. This is obviously a bold claim, so many commenters asked for an explanation.
The next day, the TikToker posted another video further explaining her claim.
In the video, she claims that all Irish people are descendants of the Haitian deity Brigette Samedi (also known as Maman Brigitte), who is associated with life, death, justice, motherhood, fertility, cemeteries and healing and is sometimes associated with the Irish saint Brigid of Kildare. Therefore, in her eyes, all gingers are Black.

How Is 'Gingers Are Black' Used In Memes?
As the videos went viral, many TikTokers, both ginger and Black, decided to weigh in on the hot take with memes.
Many of these memes are comedy videos that see gingers act stereotypically Black after learning that they are now Black from Deiaratherootworker. One video, for example, shows a man lip syncing to rap music after learning he's Black.
One TikToker, @.akilha, posted a video in which she offers some support for Deiaratherootworker, claiming that she's always thought that ginger people were the "Black people of white people."
Many TikTokers are still torn over whether or not Deiaratherootworker was joking, but ultimately, most people don't seem to be taking the claim too seriously.
