Why Are Ye's Fans Saying 'He Made Graduation?' The Meme Explained
Most likely, everyone in the world knows Ye, formerly known as Kanye West. Whether you know him for his music, or his memes, chances are that you know him, especially nowadays…
Ye's been in the news a lot lately for his apparent anti-Semitic beliefs. This has made it harder for his die-hard fans to defend him, making them say, "But, he made Graduation."
In memes related to Kanye recently, this phrase "He made Graduation" has been floating around a lot. On TikTok, Twitter and elsewhere, the ironic use of this defense is palpable.
Still unsure what Graduation is and who exactly is seriously using this phrase? Let's explain.
What Is Kanye West's Graduation?
Graduation is an album that Ye made when he was still named Kanye back in 2007. The album cover is iconic, showing a cartoon teddy bear shooting out of a collaged shape against a purple background. The album included many Kanye tracks that became some of his most notable, including "Good Morning," "Stronger" and "Flashing Lights," among others. Overall, the album's name, Graduation, was a cheeky reference to Kanye dropping out of college yet still making it in life and in the rap game.
To this day, the album continues to receive millions of streams. To many, it's regarded as Kanye's greatest work with every song considered to be a banger. Essentially, he don't miss on this one.
What Is The 'He Made Graduation' Meme?
Ever since Kanye interrupted Taylor Swift at the 2009 MTV Music Awards, his controversies have only snowballed in size. He's said "slavery was a choice," supported Donald Trump's MAGA and feuded with Pete Davidson, or "Skete," over his ex-wife Kim Kardashian's heart.
In late 2022, Ye is facing a dethroning that is the most serious in his lifetime. Following multiple anti-Semitic comments and questionable interview appearances, Ye's fans are having a hard time defending the alleged Hitler-loving, multi-platinum artist. In order to defend him and rationalize his apparent craziness, some are using the only defense left: "But he made Graduation."
After Ye's ""White Lives Matter" shirts":https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/events/kanye-wests-white-lives-matter-yeezy-shirts went viral, a Twitter user wrote, "even if it’s real he made graduation so who cares fr," and received over 13,000 likes. However, most of the likes were making fun of him. He got screenshotted and posted on other platforms like Instagram, ultimately leading to the defense becoming a meme.
