Weekend Meme Roundup: 'Matrix Resurrections,' 'Star Wars KOTOR,' Zone Ankha
Welcome to the weekend roundup, where the meme trends of the weekend are rounded up and examined more closely. This past weekend was a lot of blasts from the past. Arguably one of the best Star Wars game series, KOTOR, has a remaster that was unveiled, which revived memes from the game. The Matrix Resurrections trailer came out, which reinvigorated that decades-old franchise, and Zone-Tan's Ankha animation becoming a meme helped remind people of the OG animator.
The Matrix Resurrections
The Matrix Resurrections is the fourth installment in the Matrix movie franchise, set to be released on December 22nd, 2021. The film is directed and co-written by Lana Wachowski and sees Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss reprising their roles as Neo and Trinity from the original trilogy. What has fans excited is the way it seems to connect well to the existing lore of The Matrix while still doubling down on established themes and having a distinct stylistic flair. Also important to the success of the trailer is Keanu Reeves With A Rubber Duck.
Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic
Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic is known by most online as the best Star Wars RPG of all time, and one of the best series related to the IP. With the recent announcement that a remastered version is coming to PS5, fans have started posting memes about the series again with renewed vigor.
Zone's Anhka Animation
Zone's Anhka is an animation of the Animal Crossing character Ankha, as done by longtime popular animator ZONE-Sama / Zone-Tan. The animation itself isn't as important as the music and the status of knowledge about the video, as many memes simply reference it or the music without explicitly using the source material.
