"OK Boomer" Meme Implodes Like A Neutron Star

If Boomers wanted to kill the OK Boomer meme, they did a hell of a job. In the past week, "OK Boomer" somehow became an insanely pressing issue in thinkpieces. Even The New York Times got in on the action with an article titled "'OK Boomer' Marks the End of Friendly Generational Relations," adding in the subheading, "Now it’s war: Gen Z has finally snapped over climate change and financial inequality."

The past week has felt like an "OK Boomer" war, as absolutely nuclear takes about "OK Boomer" have turned the timeline into a wasteland. Chief among these takes is the idea that "Boomer" has become a racial slur akin to the N-word. Yes, there are older Twitter users out there who have taken to calling "Boomer" "the b-word." Behold!

Bob Lonsberry @BobLonsberry "Boomer" is the n-word of ageism. Being hip and flip does not make bigotry ok, nor is a derisive epithet acceptable because it is new. 2:16 AM Nov 4, 2019 from Mount Morris, NY Twitter for Android

This take really sent the whole meme spiraling down the drain. It's just mind-bogglingly awful. It was so bad, even the frickin' Dictionary had to step in.

Meanwhile, "OK Boomer" crawled its way into the ongoing insane Scorsese/Marvel discourse. For those who aren't aware, Scorsese isn't a fan of Marvel movies which made people who have consumed all 4900 Marvel films very upset at the guy who made Taxi Driver, The Departed, Goodfellas, Wolf of Wall Street, and about 800 other movies. People are saying OK Boomer to Martin Goddamn Scorsese.

It's enough to make meme historians weep.

Oh but wait, we're not done. As the meme got dragged to its death by some of the grossest instances of meme misuse since Pokémon GO to the Polls, it had to hit one more stop on its way to meme hell: politics. New Zealand politician Chlöe Swarbrick dropped the phrase in Parliament after she was heckled during a speech on climate change.

RIP "OK Boomer," murdered by Boomers who couldn't handle a little ribbing at their own expense. Yikes.

so boomers spend years and years shit-talking millennials and blaming them for everything, and now that they're getting called ageist names in return, they cry and whine and liken it to being called nigger.

Ok boomers.
