Weekend Meme Roundup: OnlyFans Adult Content Ban, Tesla Bot, Crazy Calzony
Welcome to the weekend roundup, where the trending memes of the past weekend are rounded up and examined more closely. This past weekend was a case of extremely random corporatism, as Elon Musk had his new Tesla Bot gimmick turned into a meme next to the Little Caesars Crazy Calzony and OnlyFans caused a heated uproar by saying it will ban adult content in October.
Tesla Bot
Tesla Bot is a humanoid robot developed by Tesla designed to perform various tasks. The concept of the bot was presented by Tesla CEO Elon Musk in August 2021, spawning several memes and hot takes about Musk's bot that could automatize much of the workforce. When asked for some more specific reasoning for the bot, Musk said that it is part of his ideology on wanting people to have a Universal Basic Income, which itself brought on more memes.
Crazy Calzony
The Crazy Calzony was a marketing gimmick thought up by Little Caesars Pizza. The idea is that it's a pepperoni pizza in the middle, with the crust being a calzone filled with pepperoni bits. The odd shape of the food item led it to being used in various memes via Photoshop. Though impossible to tell if that was the desired result or not, people began talking about the item in at least some capacity.
OnlyFans Adult Content Ban
Last week, OnlyFans announced a ban on adult content and its plan to block sexually explicit material from the platform starting in October 2021. This was seen as a slap in the face to the userbase to many, which largely consists of individuals who upload videos of themselves to the site as content, as well as spurning their desired customer base who consume those videos. The news resulted in a viral debate and influx of memes over the following days across multiple platforms, many relating it to Tumblr's adult content ban in 2018.
