G13 this, G13 that, G13 please do not the cat. References to a mysterious "G13" square have been popping up on Reddit in the most random of communities, and it feels like everybody is in on the joke already.

So, what is it about, and what does it have to do with a cat and the "Toilet Coordinates" meme? Let us explain everything.

What Is The Toilet Coordinates Meme?

Before we can explain what G13 is, first we have to provide some context by introducing the earlier Toilet Coordinates meme, also known as "Urine Coordinates" among several other names.

The meme is a Battleship-type ruled grid overlayed over an image of a toilet bowl, and it was first posted in 2022 in the /r/KendrickLamar subreddit of all places.

As you might have deduced, the meme invites male viewers to share which square they usually aim at while using the toilet. Pretty much like a game of Battleship.

There are 100 options ranging from A1 (not recommended) to J10 (arguably even worse), with everything in-between columns C and H and rows 3 and 8 feeling like solid picks if you don't want to make a mess.

There is, of course, much debate about this and other considerations like which spot makes the least amount of sound if one is trying to be stealthy.

What Is The G13 Coordinates Meme?

"Now hold on for a second, there's no row 13 in the picture!" you might say, and you'd be completely right. In February 2023, the X page World of Engineering (@engineers_feed) posted a remake of the meme, replacing the old photograph with a new one that you can see below.

As you can see, unlike the first photograph, the updated meme has several additional elements: a phone with a logo on it, a trashcan it lies upon and a cat staring at the camera. The cat, in particular, stirred the average memer's curiosity. Could we dare to dream bigger? Could we go off the grid?

And indeed we could. Imagine continuing row G for a few more squares. The imaginary G13 square ends up almost exactly upon the poor cat's face.

Having inspired its first viral posts back in February 2022, the meme briefly became dormant for a couple of years. Then, on January 17th, 2025, Redditor adamjonah shared a heatmap of the Toilet Coordinates image, which neatly presented answers gathered from an earlier thread.

As you can tell, G13 clearly was a very popular choice.

That's how G13 became a massive Reddit meme, and seemingly not a week has gone by since without some meme or comment mentioning the cursed square going viral on the platform.
