There's a brand new slang term and acronym going viral on TikTok lately, only it's not as brand new as some might think.

The term, "SYBAU," is taking over comment sections across the app, and some people aren't sure how to react when it's used against them. As it turns out, perhaps they should consider getting offended.

So, what does "SYBAU" mean, where does it come from and how is it being used online? Here's what you need to know about the latest TikTok slang term making the rounds right now.

What Does 'SYBAU' Mean?

While it's very hard to track down who first used the acronym "SYBAU" online, the term was first defined on Urban Dictionary as early as November 19th, 2003. The definition hasn't changed since then, with the user defining it as, "Shut your b---- a-- up."

Once you know what it stands for, the term is pretty self-explanatory. Essentially, it is used online to tell someone to shut up in the most disrespectful way possible.

While the term has been around for over two decades, it only recently started to get popularized en masse thanks to TikTok.

How Is 'SYBAU' Used In Memes?

On TikTok, "SYBAU" is often used in comment sections to tell someone to shut up. The term started to become popularized on the site around the end of 2024 and is often used alongside other slang terms like "TS" and "PMO," among others.

The three terms are often combined for "TS PMO ICL" memes, a series of brainrot memes that employ slang overload to read as ridiculous and confusing as possible, especially for those out of the know.

The term is also being used outside of TikTok on sites like X / Twitter in similar ways as it continues reaching new users around the web.
