That would be my personal preference, Thomas. I'm totally about keeping things neat, tidy, and easy to find.

However, I think RandomMan's point still stands. What is likely to happen is that people still won't be as quick to upload media to an entry. If there is a lot going on in an image, then it takes a lot of time (in comparison to just uploading it to an entry) to upload it.

Alternatively, you end up with a lot of bunk tags like "ndksljf" and "AAAAAAAAAA" or the like. You know how you sign up for a site and come up with fake information about yourself? Forcing people to tag might end up creating a lot of unsuitable tags and would decrease the amount of media to the site. I don't think the site on the whole wants that.

Then put filters on what actually counts as a proper tag.

But I get what he's saying. I can see how it might reduce the amount of content on KYM. But like you, Verbose, I prefer to keep things tidy and well organized. Maybe not to James May levels, but…

Sounds good, except first I feel like I need a definition of what a "proper tag" is.

Either the name of a work(i.e. Star Wars and Republic Commando, as I used on the image I uploaded to 1337 speak) or something descriptive(i.e. "pony", "anime", "dog", "punch", "kick", "headshot", etc. etc.). You get the idea?

That still wouldn't remove the need to completely type up a list of proper tags ourselves. This can't be done by just scanning a dictionary (unless you want every legit word to count as a tag). Not to forget some memes use foreign languages, adding the need for tags in those languages as well.

I don't think the staff has time for such a tag system, too much work. It's a good idea in theory, but working it out probably takes a lot more trouble.

Alright. I guess I can't take this any further.

It'd be nice, though, if we were to create custom filters for users.

Yeah, making filters for what counts as a proper tag is going to be rather difficult if not impossible, especially given RandomMan's point about foreign languages. A couple weeks ago, I tagged something with "es ist obst im haus", which was a very appropriate tag, but one that I would have never foreseen using.

Furthermore, the nature of Internet memes is such that (even were such a thing feasible) you couldn't make an algorithm that blocks out stuff that looks like gibberish. What? This photo is tagged fgsfds? Surely that was just someone pounding on their keyboard, right?

I like this button, I am a brony myself (or a pegasister, if I remember hearing something about that correct), so I will never use this button, but for people who don't like ponies, this is perfect, and I think the idea to add custom tags is even better, I myself haven't been in a much of a rage face mood lately so to be able to get them out of the way for awhile would be great.
