I've been away for a while, so have some art I've gotten finished…

A couple of OCs being cute and shit.

Pixel Art based on a portion of The Haunted Mansion in Disneyland.

An old-time looking sepia version of the previous image.

Here's something I made earlier today. I've been making lots of dragon girls the past month or so. The reason I haven't uploaded any of them is because I couldn't scan anything since my computer was broken by some fucking scammers, and I didn't know how exactly I should upload the pictures.

In light of Bangkok Comic Con going on recently, I saw this dude on the bus getting home from University. Sure, he wasn't wearing his full costume, but the leftover make-up and the stuff in his bag told me right away who he was cosplaying.

Gotta say. Cosplayers got balls, man. They may not be the same gender as their character, they might not even same or good physique. But they spend hours on their costume, wear it with pride, and have fun with others in it. That's a lot of dedication. Reminds me of my days in the Theatre – hell, I had to dress as a woman once, haha. That's why I decided to come up with this.

Here is the latest big beast I painted for my Hive fleet Behemoth Tyranids.

The Maleceptor.

I also made its head and arms magnetizable so it can also be a Toxicrene.

Was a reall pain in the ass to do all those edge highlights on it, but well worth the effort.

I tried making a mockup of a fake NES game, working with all of the original palette and sprite limitations. This was quite a challenge.

I made a jojo's bizarre adventure drawing with KYM furry avatar users as the jojos (MORE TO COME, ESPECIALLY THE VILLANS)

In case you're unable to guess.
Johnathan: A Furry(I guess), Jotaro: Randochris, Johnny: Randomman, Giorno: Foxy The Pirate Fox/ Foxy-Corsia.

In Lapidot Hell, you either embrace it or are consumed by it… And Karl shall be the judge

Also I did an comic strip for a champ concept the Riot will never make because they don't like creativity/lore, say hello to Trock; The Living Destruction…

Okay, for the more experienced artists out there, I ask. What are some fair base prices for commissions? The prices I originally had planned to use were $10 for lines, $20 for flat colours, and $35 for shading.

I showed another artist friend these prices, and he shut me down saying that NO ONE would buy commissions off me at those prices for my skill level, and even if I were really good, that those prices are a stretch. So I lowered them to $5 for lines, $10 for flats, and $20 for shading. He still said they were a bit questionably high. He then proceeded to tell me that the world does not give a fuck about art, and does not value it, and expects all art to be cheap, because it is not a "real job". He said that the ONLY way one can survive off of freelance commissions, is to be popular and whore yourself and your prices. So… I dunno. Not that I ever considered living off of my art, it's always intended to be the second source of income once I get into voice acting. What do you guys think?

Many artists are moving away from this kind of commissioning system. I notice a lot more artists will generally stick with two styles and their respective prices (i.e, colour and black/white, lines or shading, hand or digital etc.) People seem a lot more likely to charge (and pay for) bonuses added into the artwork itself. You'll often see artists charge more for full-body works, or add a fee for extra characters. As for pricing, artists tend to stay within the bracket of a small household item, depending on skill. Upwards of $30 seems like a real purchase, whereas customers are much more likely to pay if they feel it's only a matter of pocket change. Low, round numbers like odd multiples of 5 seem to attract much more attention than others.

TL;DR: Charge based on how much content is in the drawing, not the medium/quality itself. Stick below $15, this is, as far as I can tell, the accepted price of artwork online, barring the professionals and smut.

And don't forget to shamelessly advertise.

The plan was, in fact to sell smut, as well as sfw stuff. So.. go under $20 still or under $30?

Going from what Doeoeod said, I met this one artist at a recent con that had the right idea, where they had a set price for either lined, watercolor, or digital, (each with the option of half or full body) and if you wanted to add another person, it would be half the price of the current price. For example, I got a commission of my OTP with fullbody watercolor. She charged a base $25 for fullbody watercolor and since she added a second person in there, it would become $37.50.

And now for my contribution. Dumping because I've been away for a while.

A request I did for my friend who has a fuckhuge obsession over Medic from TF2 and Richtofen from BO II Zombies and she had this idea where she found Richtofen's hat and Medic's coat lying on a dresser and she tried them on and they were at least 6 times larger than her. I tried don't judge me.

New character WIP. Please excuse the cringy and stereotypical name I was tired and sleep deprived in the middle of the day.

If anyone remembers that one drawing I did a while back with a bunch of my OCs and their mates, I tried to redo it since I recently redesigned a bunch of them. WIP but still I like how it's turning out.

And now for the kinda NSFW section

One of my friend's OCs. Basically a rat-girl.

A WIP yuri request for that same friend you've been hearing so much about. She has a gay-crush on this one girl and literally asked me to draw this. The same goes for this next picture.

Finally something that's finished. Though I have to say I'm quite pleased how this one turned out.

Depends on how good you are. IMO, there's a quality threshold for when the art is commission worthy. Many people made the mistake of spending too much time drawing for too little money, and gets burn out quickly. Think about it this way, if a $15 picture took you 5 hours to draw, do you think it's worth it? Also, many people don't understand to mental frustration of doing commissions, especially making shitty YCH or OCs. My advice is get good enough till you can draw fast at a decent quality, then open up for commission around $30 for a full colour character. Raise the prices as you get better.

As a matter of fact, multiple people have commented and prasied me for the fact that I can do fairly decent quality drawings in a short amount of time. For example:

This? This took me around 20-25 minutes. So….yea.

Well, your friend is partially right. The prices are still too high for that quality, especially for someone who is just starting commissions. Either get better or lower the prices to around $5-7 for a picture like above.

Well, I've actually changed my commission strategy based on what others in this thread have said. Instead, I'm going to charge $10 for a portrait, $15 for waist up, and $20 for full body. Or at least that's the plan for now, stuff will change based on new information. But there is no way in hell am I underpricing my stuff THAT low, dude, jfc. That's ridiculous… I want to be able to make SOME money out of my art.

If you want to get paid fairly you better get good. I'd build up a rep first before start commission, latch onto one of the fandoms start drawing fanarts, or go straight into furry, they are willing. Pic related.

Pardon me for butting into this conversation, but I'd say QWERTY's estimate for a price of $5-7 for a quick digital is pretty accurate. That seems like a price people would be willing to pay without much of a second though.

I'd say that instead of getting one big comission rarely, it'd be better if you did more comissions with a smaller price tag. People who like your stuff, and find it reasonably priced, will most likely come back for more, thus earning you more money, albeit with more work. You won't be earning your bread with that, but it'd be some extra money on the side.

To be honest, if I did a full body picture of a character, and colored it traditionally by hand with no background, I would still hesitate to ask 15€ for it. But in case I'd have to sell the original picture, then I would be willing to ask for a higher price.

I did a few drawings a while ago. This one was done several weeks ago:

It's a before and after, the bottom one becoming "JoJofied."

I finished this one yesterday; I tackled with the same concept from the previous one:

This one ended up taking longer than it needed it take (I got lazy and avoided it for a while). Oh, and excuse the shitty camera quality.

I understand that, but what if my living situation required more money, and I was between jobs? What if, even temporarily, I had to live off my art to survive? What then? Would it be appropriate to raise the prices?

I have to say that you have to be really good to make even a temporary living with art alone. Even professional artists tend to struggle with money, no matter how amazing their works are.

You can ask whatever you want for your art. It's a different matter on who's gonna buy it for a high price. Like they say "The crazy person is not the one asking, but the one paying."

You can probably get higher prices more easily with fetish stuff, so if that's the road you wanna walk, then you can. I heard lots of professional manga artists started out by drawing porn. The market's there.

Of course, if you are a professional like me, you can make a living by painting.

…Though I'm a house painter and decorator.

If the price does not match the quality, no one will buy it anyway. Try to build up a rep first for yourself first. People are more likely to buy from someone's who's more well known at a higher price. Many people seems to mistakingly brush off marketing and PR, thinking just because it's intangible, it won't make an impact.

havent posted on here in years. but here's a little kym-tan.

I've wanted to do a proper illustration of her for awhile but I havent had time.
Anyway just wanted to say thank you for taking care of my daughter after i stopped caring about her.
