But I think you're right. I don't see a reason to break away from that. From what I've heard, it was actually a decent backstory that didn't go against what has already been given in the show.
Â
ÂAs for the fanon breaking into pieces, I take great joy in that for some sick reason. I don't really care one way or the other about how other people perceive Equestria or what's in their personal headcanons. But I do like to see how groups of people react to certain events.
For example, I know that there are gay athletes out there. Really prominent ones too. But I'd like to see how masculine fans and that a person's teammates react to someone coming out while playing in their prime. It'd be interesting.
I think it'd be interesting to see how many fics become alternate universe interpretations of Equestria due to established canon. And if the information is groundbreaking enough, how we will perceive the show altogether.
Frankly, I'm not too worried about the fan reaction.
Luna's appearance pretty much destroyed 90% of fanon and headcanon in one episode and the community was pretty much:
INFACT Considering the amount of Luna fanon compared to Equestria founding fanon in circulation, I would expect even less fanon/headcanon shattering than "Luna Eclipsed"
Oh, Pinkie. You're such a lovable slacker…
@nukefire
Y U SO AWESOME and logical?
From me:
I think it’d be interesting to see how many fics become alternate universe interpretations of Equestria due to established canon. And if the information is groundbreaking enough, how we will perceive the show altogether.
I think Gigatoast was talking about some of the popular fanfics that are based heavily in historical events that happened in Equestria. Authors can no longer create backgrounds (or subsequent events) that stray too far from the episode 11's story or it'll just be an alternate interpretation of Equestria instead of a feasible theory of Equestria's origins. A lot of Bronies really like their head canon to include a bloody, war-filled history. If the episode says differently, then head canon will not become unlikely. It'll just be wrong.
But you're right in that most people's fanon (like shipping or relatives) will stay intact. Ancient history won't change that. And it certainly won't stop fans from making alternate interpretations of Equestria. But there will be no doubt as to what is the truth anymore.
And remember how upset some Bronies were and how much discussion there was to preserve Derpy's status as a mother after Sisterhooves Social. Heck, Simply Rarity, one of the better sadfics out there, can't even be humored to be Rarity's real upbringing. I think a lot more discussion will occur about trying to make fanon interpretation match with what is hard canon.
How did burning_phoneix ninja me with all that text? Never mind. It wasn't that much. Great, now if I find a flaw in my statement based on his post, I'll have to change mine…GAH!
Well, burning_phoneix, I don't know how much fanfiction is out there with an origin story that affects the plot. But if one part of episode 11 affects one of the popular characters, then some people will be upset.
Like I said, Simply Rarity is now just an alternate interpretation of how Rarity got to be the way she is. There is no argument about it. And similar breakers with Derpy's motherly status occurred too. There was a lot of talk about how to save the fanon after that. So it may not be raucous, but there will be a lot of talk.
Obligatory 100th page post.
Hey guys, just dropping in from lurking to enjoy the 100th page with you all. I've been keeping an eye on you all and laughing at the hilarity you all seem to spread. Also, I feel as if I should put some info down here, since I've already taken the time to post.
I'd like to start by addressing Doctor Horse. If you're reading this, prototype is awesome. Next, I move onto the subject of Randomman's body. It's fun to think of him as angel with lots of spare time and I was always under the impression that everyone secretly wanted his body (kidding). As for page 69, I'm glad I slept through that. And as for Berry Punch, accidents happen, don't let it drag you down. Also we don't hate you, far from it in fact, you're very funny. I've already expressed my opinion on R34. And Gigatoast, I am proud of you. That statement about bronies was wonderful (the whole "can't decide who is and who isn't and the tolerating thing"). Verbose, Burning_Phoneix (WHO WAS PHONE-IX?!), opspe and BSOD and other tl;dr posters (sorry if I can't remember your name), keep up the good tl;dr work. I've thoroughly enjoyed reading through all of it. Let's see, there was also a conversation about being born with talent and developing it. I believe that both exist but you shouldn't quit on your dreams because you believe you have no talent. Take a step back, take a long breath, and pay attention because chances are that you are improving in whatever it is you're shooting for. It takes a lot of drive and a strong resolve to reach your dreams. Dac-attack, you've made some amazing work on your Forza 4 decals (I think it was Forza 4, please correct me if I'm wrong). And Ideological, I'm not a very good critic so I can't really offer any advice on getting better with your music. But I've listened to your songs and you are making improvement, keep on trying.
I think that might be all of it. Some minor last things I'd like to say. Has anyone seen Algernon? I haven't seen him post in a while. CitationNeeded not being able to tolerate R34 is… unfortunate, but that doesn't matter because you're still a fun poster in a killjoy sorta way (kidding). Master Owens continues to amuse me thanks to his new page combo (which was unfortunately broken) and general oddness. Also, I'd like to take this time to say welcome to the herd to that new member we got a while ago. I think the name was Flutterjuice or something like that. Next, this thread needs more creepypasta. And 60's Spiderman is the greatest thing ever.
Aaaaaand… I'm gone again
Edit: Had to fix a spelling error, now I'm off to cry in a corner because I've shamed my family with an error.
Gentlemen, we have a new member of the tl;dr club. Welcome, sir.
…and I thought I lurked a lot. Apparently not.

The last time I posted was page 68, then decided to lurk more. I generally lurk, but I do drop in for fun sometimes. When I drop in it's never really in an organized way. Sometimes it's tl;dr, sometimes it's short and witty (often times I manage to fail at the wit though). Main point is, I always say exactly as much as I need to. Never more, never less.
Also, I keep a lot of mental tabs on things. All that info I recalled in the tl;dr post was off the top of my head. I should really go back and make sure my memory serves me correctly. Also, though I say I never say any less than I need to, I do have to constantly edit my posts to add more. So… derp for me.
This is Iamslow, Iambob, right here.
(I love when both of you choose to post.)
I won't tarnish his words with a response. His opinions are always well-founded and respectful.

Ninja'd. Derp again.

Hows this for lurking; I started browsing this website back in 2009 way before Ponies ever arrived on the scene and I only decided to start posting this month!
Also, that's a fine post you made there Iambob. Indeed it is good to see more novels posted on here.
@Dac: Nice, very 80s
@BSOD:
…wow. All I have to say. I've been lurking since April, but….wow.
In case anyone wonders; I managed to lurk for that long because from 2009 to June 2011 I was engaged in full time work and study. Lurking was all I had time for
Walls of text, walls of text everywhere; and read every single word.
Am I the only one who reads longfics? Y u no give me reviews!?!
Last night my dad and I were watching American Dad and there was a part where Steve (the kid) was shown in a soap box derby race in a car that resembled Rainbow Dash as an Alicorn in terms of color scheme (IMO) and for some reason my dad laughed and said "Haha, it's like My Little Pony!" Could my dad potentially know about and maybe even be a brony or am I reading into this too much???
100 pages in 19 days, not sure if i should be proud or disappoint…

Can anypony give me any review on "On a Cross and Arrow" if you've read it?
It seems that I'll have to come out of my lurking mode to answer that question of yours, since no-one else didn't seem to bother.
First of all, I'm the type of person who dislikes shipping (a lot), but since I saw the positive reviews and six stars of the fic, I decided to make an exception, and read it to see what it's all about.
Turns out it was really hilarious, and gets you hooked very easily. I usually read just one chapter at a time, whenever I'm reading something, but in the case of "On a Cross and Arrow", I made yet another exception, and read it as far as it had been written at that time. The story is almost like a plot to some anime series, so if FiM was an anime, and aimed towards an older audience, it might have an episode like this.
There are only two other fics that have made me read more than one chapter at a time, and those were "Stargate Equestria", and "Mort Takes a Holiday".
And I'll also have to say that I'm VERY choosy about my fics. I've never cared about fanfiction before FiM, and I'll probably never care about it after FiM. So I only read a few select stories, and out of all the higher profile stories I've read, "On a Cross and Arrow" is definitely one of the best.
Though I think Mort Takes a Holiday is still THE best I've read so far, even if it's incomplete.
So I'll definitely recommend you to read "On a Cross and Arrow". Especially with your attitude towards shipping and such.

Yep, another 100 pages and we'll need a Pony General IV, but that being said, I can't wait till this Saturday's episode since I'm curious to see who the Mysterious Mare Do Well is, though I'm kinda betting on a new character, though seeing Pinkie as the character would be great as well.
You know, Ive always considered fan fics to be incredibly nerdy, that is, up until MLP. I probably will never read fan fics outside of MLP either. Maybe its because I was introduced to MLP through cupcakes. My favorite kinds of fics are grimdark and I like the occasional funny one, so I might give Conner the 20% cooler's fanfic a read once I'm done with silent ponyville.
I go away for one weekend and you guys get to page 100?
Wowzers.
Anywho, I've been in France for the weekend with this fella and I've missed 22 pages.
What's happening?
Holy crap page 100th?! Sweet

We need some cool ideas for what the next Pony General will be subtitled… We've had "2.0" and "This Time, It's Personal", but now we need another.
Leaves thread to pack for Thanksgiving trip and to spend time with family
Thread jumps fifteen pages

What you asked for reviews of "On a Cross and Arrow"?
Well, let's just say it's one of my favourite fics. Highly recommended and quite funny.
I was a little (not a lot) disappointed with one plot point in the end but the story does deserve it's six star rating.
OMG somehow my act as your avatar thread is the most trending topic

My question is: what are other categories/warning can come up that arent R34 or Creepy but arent friendly and need a warning so that those who dont wish to see this, dont have to.
Here was my thinking when I made mine..
You really aren't posting any real gore and even most of the cupcakes pics are actually SFW but for the respect of others putting it as NSFW only would be ok. Same with Rule34, most pics are plot pics and are really SFW. If you are posting real Rule34 then yes that is porn and should be labeled as such.
Question for everyone. Why is your favorite pony your favorite? Mine is Pinkie pie because I can relate to her the most I guess. I laugh at everything and I have a crazy sense of humor. Im also a kid inside just like her and have an insatiable sweet tooth to the point where I eat sweets until i throw up or get the shits( Im not fat though, 6' and 155 lbs).

Rarity because Art of the Dress is the greatest thing ever.
That episode made me a brony.
it's funny though, because you like Pinkie 'cause you're a bit like her. I'm nothing like rarity. She is always worried about her appearance and constantly dresses fabulous, I have messy hair and usually just wear a T-shirt and Jeans.

Because she's so random

That's pretty much the same reason for me yeah.
Woah woah wait… my posts are interesting? But I'm dumb as hell…
No but really, that's hella nice to hear, thanks guys. It's just always been real tough for me to get my thoughts together about stuff and make posts and I'm always happy to see that it's worth the trouble. In fact this has been especially difficult for me lately because just about all I've been thinking about the past couple days is how I don't seem to want anything more in my life than to be in the army. I've wanted this for years but never thought I could make it happen, but now I'm feeling like someday I'm going to make that shit happen. Also I can't seem to get this Humanization of Celestia (linked because kinda big and suggestive) out of my head either. Hot. Damn.
So that's the long and short of what's been going on with me lately, now about them ponies. Now that I think about it I'm kinda hoping Mayor Do Well will be a whole new pony capable of things that rival Rainbow Dash's talents – just imagine if the new pony had something on level with the Sonic Rainboom to bust out. If it turns out to be derpy or flutters though, I will never stop laughing.
Sup guys! :D
VERY! CLOSELY!… :D

Geez, that's very thin. I'm at the shorter end of 5 ft, but I'm 120 lbs, and that's slightly underweight BMI-wise.

Anywho, my favorites vary, and they're varying a lot more this season.

- It's usually Twilight. I like her, because she reminds me of my friends from back home (except that she's a little more animated.) And she used to be unique in some of her expressions, and she's very much unique in terms of her dry sarcasm. I like Rarity for her snark as well.
- Occasionally (especially after Pinkie-focused episodes) Pinkie will overtake Twilight. She's just a lot of fun, and she's an entirely different character from the rest of the mane 6. She's not just the goofy one. If you described her as "random" or "goofy," after describing the mane six, you'd still wouldn't describe Pinkie well enough.
Very good response Verbose. I do think that there is something I like about every one of the main six but Pinkie seems to have all the qualities of the other 5 that I like plus "randomness".

On a serious note, I like all the ponies because a) I'm far too indifferent for my own good and b) I like them all for their own reasons

Oh well, I just used a different one. Always glad to help out.
Hi guys! I've been in france for the past few days. I got back at 1am this morning and imediately watched the new episode. I spent the last 5 or so hours catching up on this thread, because I swear to celestia I will read everything ever posted in here, that's how much I care.
Any who, I think the new episode was pretty damn good, although I knew she would end up with the tortoise from the moment it put on those sunglasses. I thought the song was pretty awesome but I would have liked to have heard some more harmony. Winter wrap up is still my favourite song though, I've been contemplating writing a metal cover of that for months now. That's about all I have to say really, back to lurking I suppose.
Here have this last one I made for shit and giggles.
If you need me I'll be on tumblr. Or lurking…
I don't see why people think the episode will ruin the fanon. There's never been much discussion as to how Equestria came to be. Why should this mess it up?

When Derpy turned out to have 2 daughters, people came up with time machines and everything.
I'm sure the fandom will find its way this time again.
