Never, never, ever, give up on what you want to do. Do not give up on your interests, hobbies, etc.

Don't worry and don't stress too much. Composing, drawing, etc is very very complicated, but its worth it. You will get better, you will get done what u want.

I didn't wake up one day and started drawing good, hell, im still terrible. I didn't post my earliest work cause it isnt fantastic, but I never gave up, nor can you. You got what it takes to be creative, just don't give up.

I didn't ask about a Pinkie Pie kind of party. I asked the best party you can remember. Also I asked for details and you kinda skimped on details there.

Do you question my alcohol clouded memory!?! I'll take another look at it…

Here, something old of mine:
And the Line art isnt from when I started, its from when I was drawing for a while, it takes time. But damn it, one day, the quality is gonna be amazing. (differance in time between the two pics is about a month)

Same goes for any skills. Time, patience, persistance and you will get what you want.

I remember this kid, who wanted to play the piano from when she was 5 years old. Started out without knowing any note, could barely play most basic stuff, forget reading notes there. 7 years later, that same kid is finishing grade 9 (of 12) piano school (you can complete more than 1 grade in a 12-month period accroding to Canada's school). And now, its all perfect, smooth, any piano music. That kid? My niece. in part, actually inspired me to draw.

You inspire me, Ivan. I will not give up!!

Both. Some people just have it. Those who don't so much can work at it and get better over time.

@Ideo: My advice for drawing (wow, I'm full of it advice today) is don't sketch, try to use straight, deliberate lines. Looks less sloppy that way,

I still think that some people will just never improve. there was this girl i remember in high school. She took 3 years of art, belonged to the art club, and spent all her time working on her portfolio, but her art was terrible. and don't even get me started with this poor sap.

It took him three years to master that!

@Ivan: what program do you work with? (just out of curiosity)

@BP: asked you a question. kinda feel mean now…

Several in a row. For drawing editing etc:

Photoshop CS5
Corel Painter 4
Microsoft Paint (yeah, that paint)

I have a question for everybody. Do you think people are born with artistic talent, or can anyone develop it? I'd say Im on the artistic side( not that much though).

I think it's more of a natural attribute, although it can be improved upon.

But I also think tendency plays a part too. Although they aren't geniuses, some people really love what they do and let their craft consume them. Those people don't think of working on music or drawings or crafts as work, so they can do it for hours and hours while focusing on getting better.

I think those with raw genius and those who really love what they do in art can become awesome artists. Without one of those, I think all a person would become is mediocre.

Is that you? No probs. Same here.
I did have some art classes when I was a kid, but the classes as I remember where "too free", and the teacher didn't even bother helping me improve my skills. So despite being 17 now, I still draw like I was 10, though I got a little better since I learned how to use guide lines in the head to make faces and use geometrical shapes to draw parts of the body.

Brace yourselves, TL;DR post ahead:
Natural talent that a person is born with does help. You arent exactly born with the talent, but with the "template" for the talent, if u do choose to presue it, u will be good, naturally. And whenever u draw, create something, people will look at it and go "daaamn, thats good!". The person who isn't born with creative talents can learn the techniques, mechanics of creativity and will produce awesome work. Talent is just a boost to start.

Easier to speak for myself here. My family: Dad, Mom, Brother 1, Brother 2 and me.
Dad – amazing artistic ability. took a year of art school, dropped out to go construction, etc. Just good by default. Mom – good at drawing, lacking certain details, etc. Never had practice but still, skill is good. Brother 1 – Went to art school for 4 years, drawing since he was 6, perfect drawing – in oil, etc. Can copy oil paintings amazingly. Brother 2 – Good artistic skill, no art school, can draw simply by looking at image and drawing it on paper. Much like a photo-camera. And then theres me, the guy who was born with a crappy leg, couldn't walk to i was 3, no skills what-so-ever. No music, no drawing, no nothing. Always wanted to draw, since the rest of the family is good at it. But sucked and still do. Doesnt matter to me – im gonna keep doing what I love. I don't need talent to be good. I don't need that basic starter kit. Wasn't born with it, stick figures. Every drawing in black and white takes about 4-5 hours of erasing and drawing, correcting mistakes. Every drawing in color takes 7-12 hours. Professionals can get it done much faster, but screw it, i don't have talent, nor do i need it.

As we're talking about art, I'd like to think of myself as being reasonably proficient, especially when it comes to drawing hexagons (like this). I mostly draw and work with vector images; I don't do humans though, I just can't get the faces. My sister's the one with all the artistic talent though (my parents don't really have any either), so it goes to show that some people certainly have an innate artistic ability.

The same could be said for music and 'rhythm' also, but I tend to think it's all connected to some extent. For example, a few years ago a friend and I were working on a TFC map (yeah, old school, I know), and we drew out some concepts. He's spent his life acting, and I grew up playing piano. His diagram looked like a 5-year-old had drawn it, and mine, well, I like to think it looked about as good as it could for not using a T-square. I put the difference down to the development of my fine motor skills when I was young, from playing piano. Learning fine motor skills isn't something that can be easily done as an adult, or even as a teenager. That's why so many great artists and musicians start young. (I'm neither.)

Anyway, just my twenty cents. And as a side note, I've never actually tried drawing ponies, but I've done some vector stuff.

Haha, no thats not me. This is some of my work.

a sketchbook assignment I had to do for homework. not happy with the legs, but whatever.
And I'm sure you seen all the forza 4 cars i make. Here is a decal. it was my first one.

@ opspe. Ah vector art, hopefully ill start on that soon. Vector art looks so sharp, crisp. Free-hand stuff can be easily seen, all jagged, not smooth
-
An interesting thing u can do in creativity (at least I noticed it works for me) is start with basics, no features, no color, no addons. all basic. And whenever new ideas come up, challenge yourself with simple, small incrimental steps. Slowly work up the skill.

My next step: my spelling.

@Ivan: Beware, vectors are as annoying as they are rewarding.

@Ideo: Excellent.

@Connor: Me too, especially the falling noise for some reason.

@Ric: mmmmmmm, Flutterbutter

Nice page. So that's how nice a page can look with someone who knows how to format it. Just so you know. I uploaded a lot of pictures on my article I'm not sure which ones have not been put with your article.

Also I have updated some information on my article. There is an older juice box picture of MLP:FiM out there (I posted the link in my article.) Though it doesn't involve Fluttershy or even has the pony drinking from the juice box, but I think it is still notable.

I also am thinking that there are more art fads out there than just socks, sweaters, and juiceboxes. I'm sure I've seen other fads, but they escape me at the moment.

Great article though. But take a look at that link on my article and see if you would like to mention that picture in yours. And also you may check out the pictures I've added. There are actually more now that I haven't added yet. That blog "Juice Box is Magic" updates with new pictures everyday. I don't know if I will be coming on here and updating the pictures everyday but maybe someone would help keep the pictures updated on here. Also, the blog released an interview today with the artist who created the first Flutterjuice picture.

I re-uploaded most of the images from your article on the fads page. If you notice any missing in the image gallery, feel free to upload them.

Nice find that link, but it's not related to the particular fad. Juice bottles already appeared in episode 3 of season 1, so it goes way back. It's the particular way of drinking and the use of Fluttershy that make them related to the Pinkie and Fluttershy blog, which made it all popular.

I already posted some things about the page in the comment section of the page, but I'll give you the short version. I don't want everything added. If we upload every little art fad, the article becomes a mess. Currently only the popular ones are mentioned that have shown obvious spread. Many have asked to add the Pony Vehicles, but it's still too fresh. So I won't add it yet.

If you have any image of a fad that didn't got added to the image gallery of Art Fads yet, feel free to upload it. The images I used in the article probably won't change, but the image section can always use some expanding.

I already added a link to the Juice Box is Magic blog at the bottom of the page, in the Tumblr Reaction section. I don't think an interview is worth adding, but I'll look into it.

Just heard an ad on the radio for Toys 'R Us.

Didn't pay attention until "My Little Pony!"

Wonder if they have some of those stray DVDs.

Didn't hear anything about it.

Did they say anything about DVDs before I started to pay attention…?

Dreams generally don't come true in life for most people, talent or not. That's my anecdotal evidence from watching my friends and acquaintances. But I will say that they certainly won't come true if you don't try. Still poor odds of getting it to happen for you either way.

So in that case, are you confident enough/stubborn enough/love what you do enough to keep reaching for your dreams despite wicked bad odds?

The ones that do reach their dreams are heavily televised. Keeps the masses happy. Happy masses spend more money and respond better to advertising.

What cynicism?

Nice work!

About developing artistic tallent, I actually quit trying to awhile ago because I really started to like how stupid everything I draw looks. everything I draw is supposed to be funny anyways and I think it adds to the humor. I did get pretty good with nunchucks, though. Pretty damn good? No, but good in the sense that I feel comfortable swinging a metal pair around.

Also my new avatar is the world champ of avatars you know? I bet you can't beat it.
