Awesomeness lies below!

<div class=spoiler title="Wait until you have watched it to click here">

BOOM!

Vinyl's in the house!

What an unexpected little treat!
I don't even like dubstep or anything, but this was a really cool vignette that just oozed character.
Vinyl lives in her own world of music!
Music that infects and molds the world around her!

Fear its power!

What do we learn from this?

Seeing Vinyl get this much direct attention officially upgrades her status as a character another tier. I'd say she's officially on the level of Derpy at this point. She's really only missing a voice, though I have a real soft spot for stories told with dialogue so this was fun and I wouldn't care if she never spoke. Anyway, since Derpy has some lingering taboos about her, I think Vinyl is becoming the surrogate fandom-nod character and I'm very much fine with that.
Rock on, Scratch!

When everyone else is moving in slow-motion, Pinkie seems normal. The implications of this are both completely expected yet still terrifying…

Diamond Tiara (or maybe Silver Spoon) owns a purse-chihuahua. That fits almost too well.

Cranky's toupee is no more convincing when he is in human form than when he is a donkey. He does seem to have lightened up a bit though, so that's nice.

And the best part of all:

We have seven more of these things on the way!
Not a clue what the release schedule is going to be but I anticipate fun!
I wonder if they will all focus on background/side characters or if the main cast will be more prominent?
Since they are just going to be bonus content on the DVDs, I could see them straying a bit which sounds really cool!

Overall, I really like this video and the promise of more to come.
Not only is it cool in itself, it is a look into the life of an otherwise unexplored character, an example of the animation style and skill coming to the new movie, and an above-and-beyond fandom reference showing that the show's staff is still having a hell of a lot of fun producing this stuff!
I was pretty much 'meh' to 'pessimistic' about Rainbow Rocks, but this showing has definitely bumped me up to 'cautiously optimistic.'
I hope the full movie has a similar level of love put into it.

Crash said:

Cool, but what happens if Rainbow falls to her near-death, does she rescue herself?

Wonderbolts to the rescue!

@Derpibooru Ducks
As Crash said, I'm pretty sure it's a misspelling.
I poked around a bit and apparently it might have been an unintentional typo the first time ('I' and 'U' are right next to each other after all) and it just caught on due to its silliness.
I don't think it is actually related, but I think I remember first becoming aware of the term around the time of May the Best Pet Win so I always connected it to the infamous 'Layer Duck.'

DAMN DUCK BROKE THE RULES!

Last edited Mar 28, 2014 at 05:55AM EDT

I see, so they banned the "other F word"*. So they just replaced that term with "duck". if that's the case, any reason why they chose 'duck' or was that a random selection?

But I'm also thinking that someone tried to say "OP is a dick", but accidentally said "OP is a duck". People found that hilarious and it just caught on.

(*I'm surprised that the term became a problem on derpibooru. Most places that are strongly rooted in web-culture aside from Tumblr don't really care how 'faggot' is used, considering how Derpibooru also likes to throw around 'autism' as liberally as /mlp/. Did some homophobes on the site forget to turn their filters on or something?)

Ok guys, I'm in the process of working on a list of my Top 13 Season 3 episodes. Any suggestions or criticisms you have are greatly appreciated.

@OP is a duck
I think there was a mod who personally thought "OP is a faggot" was offensive so he deleted the tag whenever it was added and banned people who readded it so people got pissed off and created their own tag.
I saw some comments on an image that explained the whole thing, I'll try to find it.

Edit:
Here it is.

I'm pretty sure "Miso" is a prefix… And It's not very concise to forget that "homosexual" also includes the concept of either love or sex.

…So that would be Misohomoamory to be perfetly concise… Or we could shorten that to "Misohomory".

Now let us all return to disscussing our favorite Saphic couples!

(Anyone care to guess why I called the latter "Team Mentos"?)

@Evilthing

I hate how they use term “homophobia” as in “hatred” instead of “fear”.

I know, that gets me too. But I'm forced to use the term that way anyway since it became ingrained so deeply in culture. People still know what you mean when you say "homophobe" but nobody understand what you are talking about when you use the proper word for "hating gays" as Protege pointed out. Say "Misohomoamory" and see how many blank stares you get

I used to rant at people over it: "That word means FEAR, people! Bigots don't fear, they HATE. That word doesn't even refer to gays. You are literally saying FEAR OF HUMANS"

But after failing to defeat Tumblr, I gave up trying to educate people.

@protege

(Anyone care to guess why I called the latter “Team Mentos”?)

One is the menthol? The other is the coloring and artificial sweetener?

Have some more teams

I was trying to alude to the fact one's "Mint" colored… And the other appears to make candy. And "Mentos" is the first thing that came to mind when I thought "Mint Candy".

…Which means all you'd have to do is change the sentance structure around, but yeah.

Have some more teams

P.S. Saphic means lesbian for the record, not sure if you knew that or not…

… of which finding an "appropriately shippy" thing for DoctorHooves/DerpyHooves with the former in rule 63… Leaves only one image easily searched on Derpybooru… Well acording to derpibooru standards anyways, since its basically painting each other's hooves.

SoarBurn? That's even harder. There's litterally no image of them both being female while even interacting with each other on Derpibooru, let alone shipping them in such a state.

That said… I don't have the patience to try all the places.

MAN this general is hard to keep up with.
Anyways, have some flutterbat craziness

For anyone who cares, as of today, I've been a brony for exactly one year! yey.

Yeah, I know. I friggin' loved that cartoon. I meant the context in terms of the thread. Ah, whatever. Have an Equestria Girl:

Each one probably reads a/s/l/favorite pony? Although I wouldn't be surprised if one of them was from an Anti-Brony who joined the website and paid to use said site to say "Die Brony fag scum!"

Although that makes me wonder….Who the hell would join a Brony Dating website? That sounds like a pretty uncomfortable experience, unless you like sausage fests you probably wouldn't make much progress there as the 5% of the Women (OVER the age of 18 I might add) there probably haven't touched their accounts since they made it after receiving an assload of fucking creepy messages.

@Protege

Saphic means lesbian for the record, not sure if you knew that or not…

Which is why I did not use the word.

I'm just labelling other teams because I like more than just the lesbian ones

r63 Soarburn is out there somewhere but it would not be popular by any means. Braeburn is pretty much private property of the fandoms gay community so he's exclusively male in shipping

(Not that I don't feel silly for begging the question)

Surprisingly, this makes me ponder the only difference I have in opinion with the gay community… The fact they take such broad strokes character types and make it exclusively theirs rather than a thing for everyone.

Then again its not really something worth fighting over I guess. It's hard to take a stance of overthrowing the status quo when you're staring down at a minority's status quo rather than the majority's.

Now for another from the long list of "derpibooru tags with only one entry".

This time… "Niv Mizzet".

P.S. Niv Mizzet is the Dragon, I belive the blue Pony is a ponified Jace Beleren, who has 7 entries with two sets of duplicates in there so effectively 5 unique images. One of which depicts Twilight Sparkle as him.

Anyways the new Vinyl Scratch stuff is fukken tight. I was actually pretty indifferent to her until now but I'm starting to think she could be the heroine rainbow rocks needs.

@R63 Braeburn
Oh, it's out there alright.

There are only a very small handful that can actually be posted here, though…
(Gayburn is still more popular, but then, when has the R63 version of a character ever been more popular than the original? And everyone in MLP is gay, right? … right?)

@Deadparrot

Oh we weren't talking about r63 Braeburn. There's plenty of that

We meant r63 Soarburn

Good luck finding that, (though if anyone can, it's probably you)

@Protege

Don't get me wrong. When I said "pretty much property of the fandoms gay community", that was a figure of speech.

Not that the fandoms gay community is actually stopping anyone else from using Braeburn and related ships. They aren't.

More like Braeburn is just the poster boy for the colt cuddling section of the fandom. So just naturally he's going to be a he doing other he's more than anything else

Finding rule 63 itself is easy enough for any given character…

…It's finding a specific orientation of pairing or character to pair with that Rule 63 that's the hard part.

A complete Rule 63 Soarin/Braeburn is a mythically small chance of being found… Lesbian SoarBurn would be a holy grail of obscurity… The kind of thing that goes beyond hipster and into "scholar of lost arts" territory.

…Ironically, finding a partial Rule 63 pairing of Shinning Armor and Cadance (as lesbians) is also extremely difficult, though much less impossible than a non canon pairing. In that there's exactly 3 unique occurances of it on derpibooru.

… That said… I imagine this would be the same story for any amount of search terms in derpibooru of four or more.

On one hand, I know that so there's technically no emnity, and on the other hand I just feel an overwhelming urge to try inspire someone to make a boat load of content just to see it done.

It's one of those weird philosophies… I see something not done often and I immediately think we need more or else we'll stagnate. Then I see what everyone else is doing and try to push them into doing something else and exploring new things…

… And so on.

I see the Dateline special's still on, then.

And because I feel like it, and it fits the "weird shipping" theme that's going on, have a cover image for a clopfic currently in Fimfiction's Featured Box.

Oh, Featured Box, why must you reinforce your stereotype?

Easier to take, unless you look at the ingredients that you'd find in actual patent medicines – everything from THC (woo!) to acetanilide (boo!). Basically, the only ones that actually "worked" only did so because they were full of opium and pot. Your aches and pains will be gone because you'll be too stoned to feel anything at all.

Also, this episode confirms that Equestrian sports events have no rules against performance-enhancing drugs. Go figure.

Yay!
New episode!

This was a fun one that is now competing with Pinkie Apple Pie for my favorite AJ episode.
As usual with our down-to-earth pony, it wasn't wild or over the top, but it was pretty well constructed and had a lot of nice characterization.
Though their song wasn't as peppy as their first one, seeing Flim and Flam again was nice, too.

It may be time to retire the idyllic, utopian view of Equestria that a lot of people seem to have.
I mean, this place has a heck of a lot of injuries, maladies, and sicknesses.
Just look at this guy:

He may be playing it cool with those shades, but he's probably hurting quite a bit.
And that lady next to him is literally being eaten alive by parasprites.

I could just go on and on about how-

AHHHHHHH! SHARK PONY!!!!!!

In personal news, I just wanted to let everyone know that if I happen to stop posting, it's probably because California finally detached from the mainland and sunk into the sea.
We've had about 6 or 7 perceptible earthquakes in the last 24 hours with the biggest being a 5.1 last night.
No damage here, but my cat has been hiding under the bed now for nearly 12 hours…

GIVE IT A FREAKING REST, MAUD!

@Lyra as Judge

Since I usually assume most competitive judges are like… C list celebrities… I'm kinda leaning towards saying this looks like Lyra is a canon Equestria Celebrity.

…And meanwhile the one with the Pink hair looks like the professional there in an otherwise celebrity line up.

…This is a stupid head canon but I'm running with this.

Hm, thats pretty weird. All's fine here in SF, we haven't had a big earthquake in a while. I guess Maud decided to spare us.
Actually, on the subject of San Francisco, BABScon is coming up on April 18-20! Is anyone thinking of going? (I definitely am, and it would be cool to know if any of the users here are going too)

@Platus

Oh good, you’ve seen my messages.

Well why didn’t say it was you? I would’ve responded a lot sooner if you just messaged me here.

@Blue Screen

Mind you, most of those are probably from creepy old men

Actually I think most, if not, all of them are spam. I can’t say for sure, but it’s what my gut is telling me.

@Kewln00b

I wouldn’t be surprised if one of them was from an Anti-Brony who joined the website and paid to use said site to say “Die Brony fag scum!”

You don’t have to pay to send messages, but you do have to pay to read them.

And no. I'm not going to give my money to that website. I don't know why anyone would.

@episode
Meh. It was fun to see Flim and Flam return, but I didn't think it was that special. I did like seeing Lyra as a Judge though.

Yeah, I'm down here in Southern California where we are technically hanging out right near the San Andreas Fault so it's probably a lot more active than your area.
Even so, this has been a crazy day or two!
Check out the map!
A lot of those are relatively small and imperceptible, but we've been rockin' out down here.

@BabsCon
Had this convention not come completely out of nowhere a few weeks ago (at least as far as I knew about it), I would totally be going.
Somehow, they've managed to secure the entire main cast (Libman, Strong, St. Germaine, and the elusive Ball), plus Celestia (Oliver), Big Mac (New), even Babs and Vegeta! (Dummonds).
Add in a ton of writers and show staff and that's one heck of a line up.
Unfortunately, byt the time I became aware of this con, I already had all my vacation time booked so I won't be able to go this year.
Have fun, though!

On that note, is anyone going to be hitting the other two major pony cons this year: EFNW or BronyCon?
I decided to go for broke and hit both of them so I'd be interested in seeing if anyone else might be there, too!

@Lyra
I don't know about her being a celebrity; I just like to think of her as extremely immature.

Or we can go with the classics:
"Humans were masters of reverse-aging! See?"

"Old lady to young lady! No tonic needed!"

Can I really get something off my chest? I like fluffy ponies and I find it sickening sometimes that people would want to hurt these things. What did they do to deserve such a cruel fate? The only abuse I like is karmic abuse in which only the bad fluffies get punishment. I often find myself surfing the site Fluffybooru and I all I ask is why does the 4chan community have to ruin everything.

Because this is the internet.

Speaking of which, has anyone ever seen Rule 63 of Flufflepuff? Because I haven't been able to find any.

I mean, if the whole Chrysalis thing doesn't work out, the only pony good enough for our gloriously derped fluff monster would be another version of herself.

Well, the only pony if you don't count that other princess with an interest in her . . .

@chowz

The people who are into fluffy pony abuse are sadists getting shit off their chests. The more innocent the character, the more fun they have destroying it. It's got nothing to do with the character deserving anything

They're just fucked up people who need a stressball as far as I'm concerned

Best to just add 'fluffabuse' to your derpibooru filter and leave them to their devices

Yeah, screw fluffy ponies!
Just focus on fluffy ponies!

SO FLUFFY!

Well that was fast…

Made from actual apples and beet leaves, too.
Apparently it tastes pretty good!

In VA trivia, Silver Shill (the guy helping the Flim Flam Brothers) was voiced by Ian Corlett, father of Clair Corlett who is also known as Sweetie Belle!
But don't let that confuse you because Sweetie Belle's dad is actually Peter New who is also Big Mac who is Apple Bloom's brother!
So… family!

I quite liked that episode, it was a fun little tale with quite a few gags that I enjoyed. Although I did not care for the song at all. Which disappoints me because Flim and Flam's last song was one of my favorite's in the show (Also helps that it was a nice homage to The Music Man) but this one was just forgettable at best. Definitely my least favorite Season 4 song.

Or they're just normal people wishing to entertain others by telling a disturbing story/drawing disturbing art. What's the real difference between fluffy pony abuse and grimdark fanfics or scootabuse? I sincerely doubt grimdark or scootabuse authors and artists are "sadistic" just as I doubt fluffy pony ones are.

It's important to always separate the artist from the art.

@Episode
I really enjoyed it, and not just because it reinforced my "Equestria's in the early 1900s" headcanon with the pre-FDA patent medicines. They've really needed to start bringing back old plot devices and characters instead of constantly using new ones before discarding them and it's really nice to see them whipping out some of the older elements. While the plot was fairly basic, I still liked it as I have never seen one quite like this done before, so it didn't seem cliche or bland. They also avoided the problem of cramming the Mane Six into the story, only for thme to say useless lines that could be said by anyone. Conservation of Detail--if a character isn't needed for the story, cut em.

7.3/10.
