Inbetween season hiatus. It does weird things to a fan.

Homestuck hasn't had it this bad, and I've seen terrible things when we've waited three days. It's been five weeks now and it's incredibly calm.

Handsome contests and not seeing my name appear once.

It's all fun and games of course with these short posts, but please keep in mind that this is still a thread. If we want to keep this chatty-behavior going in the future as well, it might be better to relocate some of it to a place designed for it such as an IRC Channel or a Skype Group Chat (these Togethertubes work, but I'm more aiming for a place for just chatting that don't require reactivation once people leave).

Currently it's not an issue yet, but I'm rather save than sorry, as chatty behavior dominating regular posts was an issue in the past.

Second draft for the family photo

I need to be careful with the image size or KYM blurs it…or I should just upload somewhere else

Thoughts please. Will this background fit everyone or do we need a bigger image still? We've still got 4 more users to cram in here.

I'm also unsure how that text works. I think I'll need to use standard meme font (bordered white impact)

[edit]

Hey how about this image? That scaffolding lets me use the top half of the image. Unlike in the second draft above where the top half is useless. This affords much more space. Everyone can fit in this. The downside is that it's also kinda boring

I am back from the dead!

I actually like the new image, cus it makes it seem like we're all fucking around with a construction site.

Sorry I've been gone and not finishing up that OC request, I was at Anime Boston this past weekend, I'll probably get that done tomorrow.

Man…..the Pony hiatus is always the worst part of the year.

Season 1…..I didn't start watching the show until a month before Season 2. The Hiatus wasn't that bad, hell I didn't even know there was a season 2 until I finished watching Season 1 and saw a comment saying "OMG ONLY A FEW MORE DAYS BEFORE SEASON 2!!!!!"

Season 2 to Season 3 was pretty bad….I mean we had to go from April to November without a new Pony episode (compared to the May-September break). I just remember doing anything I can to pass the time for Season 3.

Season 3 to Season 4……..The worst so far, February to December without a new episode of MLP? And all we're getting in between is Equestria girls……..What's worse is the fact that Megan McCarthy is always on Twitter HYPING UP THE DAMN SEASON!!!!!!

Can't wait for the Season 4 to Season 5 break! It'll probably last more than a year next time.

I would almost rather they released episodes every two weeks instead of every week, just so there wouldn't have to be such long gaps between seasons.

26 episodes a season, 52 weeks in a year. You'd have a constant stream of ponei if they start the production on the new season when the old one is still ongoing. You'd no longer have a hiatus, just unlimited ponu.

Edit: Seeing Kewlnoob's reply diagreeing with it, I think that'll make a good small topic until we have something better to work with:
-One episode every week but a months long hiatus inbetween seasons, or one episode every two weeks but with a shorter hiatus? And how do you survive the current multi-fandom hiatus?

…..I'd rather take the once a week thing….Having your own little Pony hiatus every week is…..dear god…..I can't stand the Christmas Vacation this show takes every year or the few hiatuses Season 3 had.

@Owens and Vintiezre

Yes, you guys missed the orgy with me. It wasn't as raunchy as the mod initiation with but it was pretty hot stuff. You should have seen all the different ways Platus can bend, plus Fifths brought his anal beads like he promised. Nobody saw that much hot steam since Donald Trump

Till next time boys. But don't worry, you can always jack off to ponies non-sexually in the meantime

@Mark

If me and Platus got into a fight, it would very, very quickly devolve into homoerotic porn instead. You will quickly regret paying to see it

@Crimson

I'll use that construction site photo next. I'll wait until you are done (I've also got some ponies to draw myself)

@Chat

It's not working for me

@RMs topic

-One episode every week but a months long hiatus inbetween seasons, or one episode every two weeks but with a shorter hiatus? And how do you survive the current multi-fandom hiatus?

Actually I prefer how it is with the long hiatus. Why? Because interesting things happen.

With no pony to entertain us, we must entertain ourselves and that's when the fandom gets creative (and freakish, but entertaining no less). A lot of arts and crafts in the fandom are spurned by a lack of pony. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Besides, I'm sure there's a good developmental reason not to stretch out seasons for so long. In terms of production and distribution, it's probably easier to do episodes once a week and have a break instead of once of a fortnight

@ BSoD
If it's a struggle… I'll surely enjoy it even more…

@ RandomMan
God… the hiatus…
This is what MLP basically said to me and my brony friends when Season 3 ended…

@ Platus
That sounds even more promising… "The Last Plotbender"… when's the "fight" going down?

@hiatus:
Man, you guys are acting like we haven't seen ponies in like 3 years. Be comforting in knowing that there are worse hiatus' than this. Hell, us Avatar fans have to wait over a year between seasons. 9 months? HA! I've taken naps longer than that!

I usually find another show (usually a completed show) to watch in between seasons of shows I like. For instance: I started watching Attack on Titan during the pony drought, and it seems to be working out.

@ BSoD

We can't ALL be humorless… what you need is more Pinkie Pie and Lyra!

Her first and, as I can recall, only line in this show… I love it. Just like I loved Derpy's lines! I think it's, in some cases, better for a background pony to not speak too much. I mean, look at Bonbon!

Last edited May 26, 2013 at 10:45PM EDT

In all honesty, I don't mind the long hiatuses at all. I just watch older episodes again and do other pony related things to get my fix. On that note, I've also developed quite a tolerance to pony, I'll have you know.

I don't even smile during Pinkie Pie's Smile Song anymore! I never thought I'd see the day.

In any case, definitely continue with one episode a week. I can deal with it.

Blue Screen (of Death) wrote:

Mark, we can't ALL be gay here.

That doesn't stop shippers.

In regards to lack of ponies until season 4, I just watch ongoing shows. In case anyone isn't able to tell from my profile pic, I religiously watch Game of Thrones. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to replace that one soon because season 3 of GoT is going to end in two weeks. Then I'll have to wait for two awesome shows to start up again.

@Hiatuses: I'm doing okay, and just about every series I like is on hiatus! Supernatural, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, Homestuck, Aquabats, Gravity Falls, Dan Vs, Homestar Runner, y todo!

Also, I'm going to use this as the background of the animation:

See? This guy knows what I'm talking about! Don't watch any old episodes at all during the new season, then when hiatus rolls around, start watching the older episodes.

It will be like it's new all over again! You'll recapture the magic of first watching it!

Considering my three favorite shows are MLP, The Walking Dead and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia…..not doing so well Random…..not doing so well.

That reminds me, I need to get around to watching AoT at some point. Are all the episodes still up on Youtube?

I haven't found episodes on youtube after 5 seconds of searching, so they must not exist. I watch them on crunchyroll anyway. They're free, high quality, and completely legal. The only downside is you need one of their stinkin subscriptions to watch the newest episode, So I kinda settled for waiting a week to watch the episode and being constantly an episode behind everyone else in the fandom.

I actually haven't watched an episode of MLP for quite a while actually….mainly because I had to cancel my Netflix because I was runnin' low on funds. And well, I've been watching MLP on Netflix on My Bluray player. So so…….amazing.

I can't go back to watching MLP on SD on the Hub or on Wannabe HD on my crappy ass computer monitor on Youtube. Doesn't make the wait for Season 4 any less horrible.

@Crimson Oh yeah Legend of Korra…..I forgot about that show since it's been so long…..when's season 2?

I actually just started re-watching season 3 because it has been so long (long for me anyways). I don't know how to say this, but I kinda hate that season. Now I'm not saying it sucks. It has some episodes that I really like, but most of season 3 is just meh to me. I just find myself thinking 'Why am I watching this? Why am I not watching A Canterlot Wedding or Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000?' It just makes me realize how much more I liked the other two seasons, but I already watched the crap out of them so I don't feel like re-watching them yet. I don't know what to do. I might do something crazy and start watching G3 ponies on purpose.

@20%

You can have all of my kramas. Forever.

@Kewl regarding Legend of Korra:

Where… where is season 2? I didn't even think of LoK! It's been too long since I've watched the first season. Maybe I'll watch it again.

@Disturbed Human:

While I definitely don't think that the third season was bad by any definition of the word, I do agree that it pales in comparison to the first two seasons. The only thing that the third season really holds over the first two is the animation quality. They really outdid themselves on the top-notch animation, and it really shows how far they have come in this department. Watch the third season, then try watching the first.

Tell me you don't see a difference in animation quality. I dare you.

I've realized Season 3 was 'meh' compared to the first two seasons long ago (but then again, Don't think any season can get the same 'magic' as Season 1 since instead of featuring all the ponies in one episode and letting the characters play off eachother they seem content with splitting the ponies into tiny groups where sometimes it only has ONE pony the entire episode and just basing it around those two ponies the whole episode…you know, FRIENDSHIP is Magic right?), don't downright hate it yet as it has one of my all time favorite episodes (Finally, a fucking Scootaloo episode, with a nice HNNNNNG moment at the end.) but yeah I think it's pretty weak.

I think one of my reasons for thinking it's weak is the fact that the WHOLE season feels rushed to me, not because the episodes all felt rushed (but boy were most of them) but it just feels like since this season was cut in half the good people in charge of the show were like "Holy shit, we have half the season we usually do! What the hell do we do with half a season?!" I mean seriously watch season 1 or 2, they were able to spend 52 episodes telling stories and building the characters. Then Season 3 comes around and….it's like they couldn't really take a breath while making these episodes, it's like they had all these good build ups for stories that should be two parters (or three parters for a certain Crystalie pair of episodes.) but then on the last few pages of the scripts they realized they didn't have time to spare and had to rush all the endings. I mean for fuck's sakes Big Mac didn't even get his "I actually get a whole line" scene this season, hell I don't even remember them even seeing Big Mac have a lot of 'Eyups' this season (now THAT'S a crime…..well that's more of a personal nitpick of mine as I very much like hearing Peter New walk into the recording session for a day and record all his lines for the season).

Also…..TWO Spike Episodes but no Rarity? What gives guys? No episodes for our fabulous little goddess, instead she's stuck resorting to stealing scenes in the other ponies episodes….which should give them the hint……but seriously TWO Spike episodes in an already shortened season I cannot stress that enough!

This time it just felt like they were in a rush to give every main pony an episode and get to Twilicorn instead of just making 26 different episodes. Another big problem I had….Spike at your service…….seriously DHX? I'm sorry I don't like to diss any of the writers but they keep letting Merriwether Williams write the episodes that involve actual character development. Gets the chance to build Dash's character: Make every other pony as OOC as possible. Gets to write the episode where Fluttershy finally gets more assertive: Spends the first half of the episode (LITERALLY HALF THE DAMN EPISODE) on gags about how much of a pushover Fluttershy is even though we've known this the whole show. Gets to write about Spike trying to find out about his heritage and culture……Yeah not going to get into that episode. Then gets to write Rainbow Dash trying to get into the Wonderbolts…..well that was her goodish episode (not as good as Hearth's Warming Eve as that was the sole episode she did WELL) Gets to write about more of Spike's development of him with his 'noble dragon code' (funny, didn't he like refuse to be a dragon and be a 'pony' in the episode MERRIWETHER wrote?): Just makes him a klutz all of the sudden and…..apparently made Rarity such a bitch in the episode the only thing they could do is switch Rarity with Applejack….

This is the same woman that had "Hey, I'm not a fan of my friend being a show boat. Time to get all of my friends to upstage her until she starts to go nuts", had Rainbow Dash go back to her egotistic self ONLY A FEW EPISODES AFTER SHE 'LEARNED HER LESSON', had Rarity freak out Fluttershy at the beginning of Hearth's Warming Eve after she KNOWS that Fluttershy has horrible stage fright and they were surprised that she wrote Rarity as a total bitch in Spike at Your Service?

Sigh enough of my Merriwether rant…..but seriously, it just irks me that she's the go to person to write these important episodes….might as well get her to write the Season premieres and Finales while we're at it.

But yeah, umm….it was rushed. Also found out after finding the video "All songs in Magical Mystery Cure" on youtube I came to the conclusion that since the episode featured 11 MINUTES of music (when all the episodes are 22 minutes long) I think Daniel Ingram should be credited as the Co-Writer of that episode…..I mean in the credits it says MA Larson only wrote two of the songs…..Why not give him half the writing credit? Lol, not a nitpick just something I felt like pointing out.

Wow….that really was a pretty bad rant about Merriwether Williams. Sad, she wrote my favorite episode of Spongebob Squarepants (CHOCOLATE!!!)

@Owens, I don't think anyone will say the animation hasn't improved. I mean hell, look at the water in the scene with Steven Magnet in season 1, then look over at the ending of Sleepless in Ponyville when Scootaloo falls into the river. Holy shit they're using flash?

@Blue Screen (of Death)

I asked Crimson Locks to draw my OC for me based on my profile picture.
I'll post it here when it arrives and when I get the chance because of my slow internet
connection. And I really want to be in the family picture because I posted a few times on the last Pony General…

So can I be in it?

Sorry if it was out of topic….

BSoD, you know what would be hilarious? Find a pic of that one guy who knows Death Kwon Do in Regular Show, copy your OC onto a page in the Death Journal, and put underneath it "Blue Screen of Death…" It would be the ultimate finisher to anybody stupid enough to insult or ship you with-

RandomMan said:

I'll honestly take the long hiatus. I'm one of those obsessive fanfic writers who holds canon on a pedestal and writes a dozen blog posts about his fics getting crushed by it. The long hiatus lets me write without having to scramble to incorporate new elements as my stories progress, or, in Ascend's case, shove the whole thing into an AU.

@Season three quality
For me, season three had three really good episodes (Wonderbolt/s Academy, Sleepless in Ponyville, and Magical Mystery Cure_), two sucky episodes (_Magic Duel, and Keep Calm and Flutter On_), five above average episodes (_Games Ponies Play, The Crystal Empire Too Many Pinkies, One Bad Apple, Just For Sidekicks_), and two "meh" episodes (_Spike At Your Service, and Apple Family Reunion). I think part of the problem is the shortened length. It made the sub-par episodes seem a lot worse because there wasn't as many episodes so they "counted" more.

I've rewatched season one up to Dragonshy and it hasn't been that great. The episodes all seem incredibly bland and very conservative. It seems like the writers were scared to do anything and that creates scenes that, had it not been for the horror of watching seven hundred episodes of repetitive Pokemon, probably would have bored me to death.

@Merriweather
I don't, and never will, understand the hate people have toward her. If you go back to EQD's Mare Do Well post, the most common criticism seen within hours of the episode airing is the lack of humor. I don't see anything wrong with the way the Mane Five treated Dash and, in fact, had they not done so, dozens of ponies, including quite possibly Dash herself, would have died (or at least sustained some serious injuries) due to OSHA violations. What I do see are Dash fans being upset that their favorite character wasn't treated the way they thought she should have been.

People like to rant about Mare Do Well and Spike At Your Service but they completely forget that she also wrote Wonderbolt/s Academy and Hearths Warming Eve (most regard Dragon Quest and Putting Your Hoof Down to be average). The fact is, sometimes, writers don't write great episodes. Larson botched Magic Duel's ending royally, but I haven't held that against him.

@xTSGx

Well, I have to seriously disagree with your assessment of season 3's episodes. Magic Duel was excellent despite the shitty ending with Trixie and Wonderbolts Academy and MMT were easily the worst episodes of THE SHOW, not just the season, and I have to admit that a small part of me hates you for liking them. Don't worry, it's just a small part. We can still be friends, I'll just kill you in your sleep.

As far as Merriwether Williams is concerned, looking at her episode credits, I think you'll notice that she is the writer that takes the most risks when working on the show. The Mysterious Mare Do Well tries to make mlp into a super hero comic, Hearth's Warming Eve was formatted as a play/historical flashback and had the burden of adding a lot of backstory to mlp, Putting Your Hoof Down required writing the characters way the hell outside their comfort zones (I still haven't forgiven Fluttercunt for that brutal smackdown she gave to Pinks and Rarity), Dragonquest involved introducing some radically different character types, and Wonderbolts Academy needed some very delicate writing to have Rainbow Dash and a pony so similar to herself exist in a protagonist/antagonist relationship.

So yeah, I think it's safe to say that Williams isn't the one writing the safe episodes. Naturally, the spectrum of opinions on these experimental episodes is going to range widely. I personally liked Mare Do Well and Dragonquest even though a lot of people hated them. Likewise, I thought Wonderbolts Academy was a total flop, easily my least favorite mlp episode, but a lot of people liked it.

Honestly, even though Merriwether is probably my least favorite writer, I really do value her contribution. Having those weird mlp episodes that explore new ideas and cause controversy helps to keep the show fresh. I think I might agree with kewlnoob though that it might be smart to stop letting the wild card write the really important character defining episodes.

@Season Three

I agree that this season wasn't as good as two. What I do have a problem with is all the doom-saying that has come out of it. Lots of people keep saying that this is the beginning of the end for MLP, and I just don't see it. Sure, Twicorn is a clear case of executive meddling, but this wouldn't be the first show to have to deal with that. Good writers (and MLP has several) are able to write around the meddling, meeting the requirements that are put on them while still coming out with good material. Twicorn was a bad idea, but it does not necessarily mean she can't be worked with.

@BSoD

We can TOO all be gay. Or even Bi – OH! We should all just be bisexual. It would make the shipping much less complicated.

Speaking of shipping, I can't believe I went so long without linking to this video. (Warning: ever so slightly NSFW, and not pony related at all.)

@Fifths

I also liked The Mysterious Mare Do Well and hated Wonderbolts Academy. Also, Magic Duel is my favorite season 3 episode. I'm not exactly sure why, but I think it might be because Trixie is a better villain than King Sombra.
