@DP and those baby names

Okay the second name is pretty cute. Pinkamena works for a girls name, I guess and Zecora is a cool sounding name overall. Why not?

But naming a boy Twilight Sparkle? First name Twilight? Second name Sparkle? Please tell me that one isn't real.

Why? Why would you do that to that poor child? He's gonna get eaten alive in secondary school!

Secondary/intermediate/middle/junior high school? I've been in those dark depths. So many uses of "faggot"… it was too much. I had to get out while I could, or at least spend less time there. So in 2011-12, my eighth grade year, I grinded the fuck out of my halfback skills and made the high school football team a year early. But when I actually got to high school, it was like moving from Tijuana to Detroit. The only thing that's left is for the school district to go bankrupt… but no, we're fucking loaded.

@Baby Names: Whoa, that's a lot of molten spaghetti there, bro. Naming a baby after the G3.5 Rainbow Dash? G3.5 RD in general? No… no, goddammit, it's too much! GET IT AWAY!

You know, I've always thought long and hard about names for when my kids come around, and I've always wanted exotic names for my children.

Like Thunderbolt.

Thunderbolt Ambrose Owens.

Yeah. I like that. We can call him Thunder for short.

But you are very correct in that the name will affect your child up to at least age 18, so it may not be a great idea to go ahead and name it Dalek Pennywise Anaconda or something in a similar vein.

You don't want to be the awful parent that got your kid's ass kicked daily on the play ground, do you? Of course you don't. Your kid will hate you by the time he's ten.

Have some chicken and a smile.

Is that plushie supposed to be a Rule 63 version? Because the snout looks kinda male.

@Crash:

You know, I was thinking the same thing.

Something just looks… off.

Perhaps it is a Rule 63 plushie?

Perhaps its not chicken, but rather… a cock?

Where has my maturity gone? I'm cracking dick jokes at the drop of a hat.

Why.

I think its the neck. She looks like shes missing a neck bone. I'd move the skull back further and up a bit so it doesn't look the spine is craning so much.

Also is this the kind of pose you were looking for?

Quick change of subject to CHICKUN

Serious talk here guys. This is meme related so I expect some input.

I noticed that this article on Chickun popped up. And realised that we don't have anything on Chickun at all. I wondered why. I've been seeing Scoots get paired with that title and that same dopey face several times over the last year.

Here's some Chickun that we had before that entry:

First thing that came to my mind is the fact that Chickun is basically just Scootachicken with a dopier looking face and we already have Scootachicken covered here as nothing more than a notable in-joke than an actual meme. The spread of Chickun seemed to be restrained to the same circles as Scootachickin and going no further so nobody bothered considering Chickun as a meme either

But with all the image macro's of Chickun still being spewed about of /mlp/ aside from the efforts of the original meme-forcer on /b/; I think the Pony re-imagining article could afford to be updated by someone here to include Chickun underneath the Scootaloo section and mention how it is paired with that specific scootaloo face and the rest of the backstory that was kindly provided in the Arise Chickun entry.

That entry itself will most certainly be deadpooled Or maybe not now that it has been cleaned up a lot

Quoting long post because new page:

But with all the image macro’s of Chickun still being spewed about of /mlp/ aside from the efforts of the original meme-forcer on /b/; I think the Pony re-imagining article could afford to be updated by someone here to include Chickun underneath the Scootaloo section and mention how it is paired with that specific scootaloo face and the rest of the backstory that was kindly provided in the Arise Chickun entry.

Yes, but no, fuck that tbh. The Re-Imaginings entry has no focus, and the term for it was even coined on this site. It's a colluction of semi-important in-jokes that apparently make memes because they get slammed together. Back then, with the large influx of MLP entries, it seemed like an ok idea, but it isn't afterwards.

As for "fixing that entry", it has been considered various times but nobody was ever really in a mood to do it. It's basically a discussion of What to keep vs. What to delete, alongside possible seperate entries to create.

Regarding chickun, the Re-imaginings entry can be brought back to its original focus on "Chicken Scootaloo" (which is still the most popular character-based jokes alongside Fluttershy tree (but even bigger)), and then make Chickun a derivative or related meme within the entry. However, there are a few things you have to remember here:

  • Whereas Scootachicken is based on Scootaloo being depicted as a chicken, Chickun is just a nickname (based on the Scootachicken joke) for Photoshops of Scootaloo with that expression, but doesn't need to contain a Scootachicken-related joke.
  • Chickun is largely /mlp/, Scootachicken is art sites such as DeviantArt and Derpibooru (and Ponibooru back then).
  • Chicken is forced as fuck, but that isn't a point, because spread is spread.

Moving on to another similar entry I've considered documenting: Twiface

Likewise to Chickun, a popular expression, commonly used in photoshops, but with the addition of making use popular catchphrases such as "You Came To The Wrong Neighbourhood Motherfucker".

When it comes to images available, according to Derpibooru Twiface dominates Chickun, but here we again have to remember that Chickun is largely a /mlp/ meme and therefore images related to it don't often get uploaded to art sites. Still, Twiface has spread amongst multiple websites, unlike Chickun which is still mostly /mlp/.

Ticket

A ponified version of the Golden Ticket for the Grand Galloping Gala back in season 1. Forced as fuck like Chickun, but it's up for question which one is more popular, just bringing it up.

So….since the 3 year anniversary of Friendship is Magic is coming up in a few weeks anyone remember the first time they watched the show? Any feelings of confusion? Or an immediate orgasm of childish entertainment? (Not to self, never mention the words 'childish' in the same sentence as 'orgasm')

I wish I could've started watching the show in season 1, back when the fandom were just a few ironic hipsters on /co/. But no, I had to start watching the show a week after Season 1 ended. I just remember being on the 'Awkward Zombie' forums and seeing a few Pony gifs as like….two guys avatars (both of them were Fluttershy) and on one of the off topic threads a guy made a post called "Post ponies" and was just him and one other guy who posted a comic of a fat guy sitting at a computer watching scenes from FiM that featured 'sleepovers, makeovers' and a picture of Twilight hugging a Parasprite then the fat guy just says "This is the manliest shit ever."

So I sat there looking at this thread saying "Is this supposed to be a new My Little Pony show?" so I looked up My Little Pony on Wikipedia and found out about Friendship is Magic. I read the wikipedia page and said "Well, this doesn't explain why these two are obsessed with this show." and didn't give this show another thought…..Not until I finally got my own place and got Xfinity and all the premium channels. One day after work I was channel surfing and then I found the Hub which had My Little Pony playing. I was just sitting there like "Well, I have 1000 channels now….might as well make the most of it." so I turned it on and Owl's Well that ends Well was on.

Needless to say….I really wasn't impressed by the episode (it's currently one of my least favorite episodes). But I just sat there on the AZ forum when I was just thinking what was it about this show that these guys liked? So a few days later after work I waited till 5 PM and turned the Hub on one last time and well, Friendship is Magic Part 1 was on so I sat down and watched it. By the end of the episode I really liked it and wanted to know how the cliffhanger was resolved. Very next day I came right home and watched part 2 on the Hub. By the end of the episode I was loving it, I remember thinking "Holy shit, they made a good My Little Pony show!" and I finally understood it, then I looked at what was on next and thought "If they made a great My Little Pony show they must've made this Strawberry Shortcake show great too!" and proceeded to watch that……..Yeah that was a mistake.

After watching 5 minutes of Strawberry Shortcake I went on Youtube and I started watching all the episodes of Friendship is Magic, from episode 3 to the end of the season and I was hooked. I thought it was weird that I liked My Little Pony, until a few weeks later I hear of 'Bronies' which are adult male fans of My Little Pony…..Still thought it was weird. After a while I just got a little desensitized to the whole phenomena and just kinda watched the episodes on Youtube for a little while. Then I saw the comment from some over excited Youtuber "SEASON 2 STARTS THIS SATURDAY!!!!" and I forgot the show was in mid-season actually so I missed out on taking part of the first pony hiatus as it was actually my first time with teh Pone.

Then Season 2 happened…..Now I'm officially a lost cause.

The first time I watched was in October 2012, by accident. I stayed home, sick, and was watching Nickelodeon that morning. Then suddenly, MLP came on, and I decided to watch it, it was Feeling Pinkie Keen. It was surprisingly good, but I forgot about it. Until a few weeks later, where I remembered a short clip of Fluttershy, which got me interested in that episode. So I watched episode 1 and 2 of season two, and got hooked on the show. It was after watching those two episoded that I found the fandom, somewhere late in October.

I started watching ponies back in 2011 as a social experiment. I joined KYM, watched a few episodes just to see what the hubbub was all about, and slowly but surely succumbed to addiction.

The whole purpose of me watching any of this was just to see if I could get a better understanding of what these damn bronies that keep clogging up my Internets are on about.

I never expected to go native.

Okay then…

@'Chickun'
Oh god, why won't they stop with the chickens?!

Honestly, I'm pretty mixed when it comes to chicken jokes.
They can be done well, if the person puts some actual thought and effort into it, but oh my god…
The first EQLA in November 2012 was what really killed it for me.
Took my Scootaloo plushie along and had, at the very least, a dozen different people make some form of 'chicken' comment.
("Hey look, a chicken!", "What a cute chicken!", "You gonna finish that chicken?")
That got incredibly old, incredibly quickly.

On to the matter at hand:
Yeah, I don't really know what should be done with this 'meme.'
It's definitely a derivative of the standard chicken meme, but it seems even more forced than the original.
I only ever saw one or two giant chickun image dumps that all seemed to have been made be just a small handful of people.
Does that really qualify as 'spread?'

As for the content, it could actually be seen as a commentary on the original 'Scootaloo is a chicken' meme.
The old one was so massively overplayed and with such a high rate of stupid and repeated 'jokes.'
Perhaps the broken expression and intentional misspelling are parodying this and essentially making fun of the fact that some people actually consider something like that to be comedy.

Or maybe I'm giving the originators of 'Chickun' entirely too much credit.

In the end, it seems like it is just a modification of an existing in-joke that could use a bit of documentation, but more as a continuation of the meme in progress and not as some stand-alone entity.

(Quick aside for Ticket: She may actually be deserving of some recognition because, although she certainly started off as a ludicrously forced meme, she did gain a bit of a genuine following after some time had passed. She's silly and pointless, but she's kind of cute and has a decent amount of art surrounding her. I'd be in favor of some kind of entry.)

@First Time Watching
Ah yes, it was back in early 2011 and I had gotten bored when I remembered seeing a URL in the corner of a bunch of cat pictures my mom had been sending to me.
Thus I found icanhazcheezeburger which eventually led me to its various sister sites, and finally through to KYM when I started wondering where all these weird jokes came from.
I said before that I sort of arrived in the middle of KYM's big pony schism right near the end of Season 1 (though I didn't know that at the time) so I was seeing these brightly-colored avatars all over the place and, more interestingly, the controversy and arguing they always seemed to leave in their wake.
Curiosity got the better of me so I checked it out.
Even before seeing any animation, I liked the character designs and general expressiveness of them.
By the time I decided to actually watch the show, season 1 had just ended so I downloaded a torrent of all 26 and wound up marathon-ing them over a single weekend (and then again the next weekend… and again o the next…).

It may surprise some who know my love for Dash that it was actually Pinkie who really hooked me into the show initially.
Her first scene (where Twilight says 'Hello?' and Pinkie gasps like crazy and bolts) was just surprising and funny enough to make me genuinely smile.
That basically put the first major crack in my skepticism and from that moment I was into it fully and enjoying the ride.

@DP

Or maybe I’m giving the originators of ‘Chickun’ entirely too much credit.

Most likely. From the research done so far, "Chickun" is simply the product of one guy who had the neat idea of spamming as much Scootaloo as possible all over /b/ purely to spite the ban on ponies there. This one guy came up with using the signatory facial expression and the caption "Chickun". He may have done that in a sarcastic tone towards the Scootachicken joke, but his focus was on trolling the /b/rothers

While this occurred largely on /b/, later other posters picked it up as well and began making their own macro's of "Chickun" which I suppose counts as spread. But as RM said, this spread was mainly around /mlp/ and only made a few appearances elsewhere such as on KYM. Certainly not going as far as the original Scootachicken which is definitely a large fandom-wide thing

I just figured we may as well have something on that since there's a lot of "Chikun" macro's out there and whether or not they were all just made by some guys on /mlp/, some people are going to wonder about them and look it up on this site.

I originally suggested noting it where Scootachicken is on the site, but on second thought we may as well just leave it in its own article which has since been cleaned up. Theres no harm in leaving it there

@First time watching

Geez I don't even remember. I started watching halfway through season 2. When was that?

Pre-2010, I just lurked KYM with no account. I spent a lot of time on memebase and referred to KYM when something didn't make sense.

During 2010 I was still lurking, but when the MLP article appeared; I was amazed at how viral MLP was becoming back then and payed close attention to its astonishingly fast development. I also fell in love with the fanart and lurked KYM even more for the MLP image gallery. I'm a sucker for adorableness and dem ponies are just so goddam CUTE. But I ignored the show.

In 2011 I made an account after I figured I had just made a brony out of myself. I think it was around that time that someone posted Season 2 Episode 1 and I clicked on it thus sealing my fate. As soon as I saw Season 2 Episode 3 and the feels that came with it, Mr.Bones wild ride had started moving and now I can't get off.

Remember when I compared Cadance to Princess Euphemia from Code Geass? Well, upon completing season 1, I can now say I thoroughly hope that comparison doesn't hold true, because holy fuck that was brutal. Screw all the nicknames she has, she needs to just be called Princess Hope Spot vi Britannia.

I've never suffered a [Grimdark] gut punch in a non-fanfiction scenario before, so I applaud Geass for taking my Genre Savviness in knowing Euphemia would be killed, and bitch slapping it with one of most intense twenty minutes I've experienced in a long, long time. I literally sat there when everything imploded going "Oh, no. Oh shit. This isn't happening. This can't be happening." It happened, and now I got that bitter taste in my mouth you get when a [Grimdark] has passed through your lips.

Coincidentally, my feels only suffered moderate damage. Had Suzuki not lied to her at the very end, that would have been it.

I'll never be able to watch Starfire from Teen Titans the same again (I don't if it's a different voice actor, they sound identical to me).

I first heard of the pone while in the crazy world of fanfiction.net. Someone decided to start an MLP thread in the Lion King's forums. After staring in confusion for a moment, I dismissed it as "one of those weird internet things" and carried on with my life.

Eight months later I was in the middle of binging on Pokemon when, while wandering around on TV Tropes, I happened across the MLP article. I knew something was amiss when that article was longer than all the Star Trek series' combined. I decided to give it a go, after all, I was already watching Pokemon, it's not like I was going to sink any lower. I wisely decided to wait until after I had caught up with Pokemon to start MLP.

I got through the first two episodes, went "Not bad" and started Ticket Master. It was when Yakaty Sax started playing (something I would do during chase scenes in Pokemon) that I knew I'd get hooked.

@DeadParrot

That got incredibly old, incredibly quickly.

Yeah, I hate it when people take jokes like that and run them into the ground.

Apr 20th, 2012: "Greetings Master Parrot. Just letting you know that I TOTALLY didn’t get an account just to follow you… cause that would be creepy, right? …right? -First comment made on site."

Feb 22, 2013: "I’m not too huge around here so I know I cannot whine
But it seems a bit disturbing that I stalk myself online…" -DeadParrot's lyrics (that I wrote) in my first forum song.

Sept 18th, 2013: "Hey! You can’t stalk Master Parrot, because…"

-Last post made on site.

…I've based my entire online personality on one joke. Am I monodimensional?

@First finding pone.
I've said this before, but Derpy was the one that got me into the show. I found her article here on KYM and I just thought it was so cool for the show and fans to have such a connection. I wanted to be a part of it, and I guess I stuck around to see if any more came up in the future.
In other words, I came for the Derpy, stayed for the pandering.

@First time watching mlp

Well, I was in Ireland for a study abroad thing and feeling a bit homesick (home for me, of course, being in front of a computer screen in a dark, damp basement not unlike a cave.) I decided to stay in one weekend and steamroll some TV.

I devoured the first season of Game of Thrones in no time at all, so I decided to check out this stupid fucking pony show that originated all the pony pictures and avatars which I hated. I was mostly ambivalent towards the first few episodes, but the one thing that managed to hook me and get me to continue watching through some mediocre first few eps was the mythic opening. I'm just a sucker for that kind of shit. The shows increasingly savvy writing and humor is what got me to stay.

For those of you who know me and my totally justified moral outrage against Yellowquiet, you might be surprised to learn that it was after watching this scene

that I finally admitted that I was a fan of the show.

@Getting into the show
I first heard about the show sometime during the first season. It was becoming increasingly popular here on KYM, so it was really quite hard to avoid. But, convinced it was just another meme that would be gone in a week or two, avoid it I did. As the months at university dragged on and summer began, I started to realize that these ponies weren't going away. So, when I got back in the fall, I started looking at some of the pony-related memes and pictures. That's about the time season two started, and all of a sudden pictures and comics of this character "Discord" voiced by one of my favourite Star Trek characters started popping up everywhere.

I started wondering if maybe, just maybe, people watched this show because it was actually good. So, I downloaded the first episode and watched it as soon as I got home. It was okay… I could understand why people would like it I guess… but not really for me. But, my brain had other plans, since those darn ponies just wouldn't keep out of there! So I watched it again the next day after work, and I actually liked it more the second time. I decided to get the next few episodes to really give it a chance. The Apple Buck Season episode actually made me laugh out loud when Applejack jumped off the diving board and landed flat on the ground (what can I say, I grew up watching Bugs Bunny!), so I decided then and there to get the rest of the episodes and watch them all. And I did. And now here I am, on the Pony General board of KYM telling you this story and eagerly awaiting the start of season 4!

@First time watching MLP

It all started back in mid-2011. I had never even heard of Friendship is Magic until I saw a stupid youtube video that had clips of the show. I don’t remember what the video was called, but it got me curious. Why? I don’t know, maybe it was the animation. Anyway, I didn’t even know what a ‘bronie’ was and I decided to look up the first episode on youtube just to see what it was all about. At the time, it had over a million views. My first thought was “Wow. I didn’t know that many little girls had access to youtube.” I watched the first episode, found out it was a two parter, and decided to watch the second episode just to see how it ended. When it was over, I said to myself “Well that was stupid. At least I never have to watch this show again.” But for some reason, I don’t know why, I started to watch the next episode a few days later. And the next episode. And the next episode. And the next episode. It wasn’t until episode 6 or 7 I thought to myself “Wait a minute. Why am I still watching this?” Then I found out there was 26 episodes of this show (season 2 hadn’t aired yet). I said to myself “Fine. I’ll watch every single episode. Then I’ll NEVER have to watch this show again!” I watched every episode and started over at episode one. That’s when I started to call myself a brony. I made a KYM account just before season 2 started and here I am now.

@Chickun
How the Chickun poster feels: Lelelelelelelelelelelel

How everyone else feels:

I used to like the Scootaloo chicken jokes. But MAN the fandom takes one of the better jokes from the show and drives it into the ground so fast. I think the one that REALLY pushed it was the Chicken Joke in Double Rainboom (everyone here knows my feelings about this episode so I won't continue my hate for it here) where basically the joke was dead for quite a while but the writer of this thought "LOLOLOLOLOOL GREAT IDEA FOR A SIGHT GAG! HOW ABOUT WE IMPLY SCOOTALOO IS A CHICKEN!" Then someone else goes "LOLOLOLOLOLOL THAT'S FUNNY BUT HOW ABOUT INSTEAD OF IMPLYING SHE JUST GETS THROWN INTO A SIGN ABOUT CHICKENS, THAT'S FUNNY RIGHT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!"

At least Fluttertree is still…..tolerable. Although now I'm waiting for the sequel to Double Rainboom to include a scene where a tree falls on Fluttershy or something.

Yeah at this point I'm just waiting for Bronies to ruin all the good jokes out there.

Much like kewlnoob, I got into the show about the same week the first season ended, taking interest in it through a forum that's gone now.

Ponies were so big there that upon being nuked in a temper tantrum over a particularly nasty shitstorm the owner of the forum changed the page's name to RIP PONYVILLE, leaving only a creepy image referencing silent hill in it's place.

Soon I started lurking KYM here and I gave the show a try without much hesitation. I remember thinking the first couple episodes were suprisingly cool and interesting, having mixed feelings about the next couple and pretty much being sold on Griffon the Brush-Off. I was all "Did those two ponies just troll all of their friends and a griffon and were goddamn adorable while doing it? Fuck yes!

This episode is probably what made me start liking Pinkie so much. I enjoyed seeing her playfully giving everyone the business the way I do with my family and I even found myself relating to that third wheel feel. Much to my surprise that wasn't even the only time I'd find myself really sympathizing for a cartoon horse – her second guessing weather her friends really wanted to be around her or not in Party of One is something I very often find myself wondering about my own friends irl. She continued to win a lot of big points early on in my experience with the series, and the rest is history.

The first time I watched ponies was August 2012. I had become a brony by that point, and I had not yet watched an episode. So, I went to the On Demand menu, and sure enough, they had pony. I can credit "Applebuck Season" with being the first episode of MLP:FiM I have ever watched.

Jimmy 3, People 0 wrote:

Don't worry, it'll be gone once again. It was only funny back when we all thought it was annoying that they played Over 9000 Gak commercials during the premiere. Gak was fun at the beginning but after a while everyone just decided to forget about the Gak and there's no chance it'll ever rise back up to its literal 15 minutes of fame. It'll never come back, like Disco.

Oh, I have quite a bit to say on these things!

About Scootachicken and similar. I get irritated by these jokes, and for a reason that I think will probably sound rather pathetic – because they're not literally true. I see people calling Scootaloo a chicken or Rarity a marshmallow (for example) and some part of me is enraged because they're actually ponies.
As for Chickun, like most people I find it somewhat irritating though I personally don't mind it when it's just a silly face that's a mild part of the picture and not the focus of the picture itself. Kinda hard to put into words, really…

About when I first discovered the show, that was two things, both when FiM was new, one was an online friend talking about it sometimes (often in perverted ways), the other was that it was big on a forum I was on (though it hasn't really been a thing there for a long time now). My reaction… Well, I've already been over the pony-hating this triggered in length so I won't go over again. I've also been over what's turning me around, but to sum that up, heard some MLP songs on Board Game Online (one involuntarily, one on purpose) and I found myself repeatedly listening to the one I picked out on purpose (Ultimate Sweetie Belle by Alex S) when trampolining. Then I started looking at pictures here on KYM about it (only those suggested below the ones I was actually looking at), I signed up to make vitriolic comments full of pony hate or confusion but then found myself with a couple genuine questions about MLP, which brought me here. I was roped back in by the kerfuffle surrounding Mark's original fic when I was about to leave and so I got hooked.
As for actually watching the show… Still haven't actually gotten around to it, I have yet to build up the courage to do it, find a way to do it and then find the time and motivation with all my other stuff going on.

Long time no see pony general, good to see everything is going smoothly.
Seems like we're talking about Scootachicken and how we got into the show.
Here's my two bits.
How I found it? A rainy day at a ski lodge and a little sister who could navigate youtube.

This post isn't anything new, but hey, it just feels good to be back and see the fandom healthy and cool.

Oh yeah, and scootachicken, haha, calm down.

@chickun
It's not chicken Dammit. it's chickun. It's a 4chan /b/ thing and since most of you don't go there, most of you have no idea what your talking about. Also the entry is only half correct.

@Ticket
I brought it up about a year ago and was told no it's not a meme and since it's just like Nix, should be in re-imaging or some other sub entry at most.

When 4chan kicked everyone for posting ponies I, like a lot of people, went to ponychan that is where I saw ticket and even made a few macros of it. It got bigger and spread to other sites. Same is happening with chickun. Except it's a poster in a pony bread that avoids bans and posts that one face only. He's not even that into the show. He does it to piss off the mods and talk to friends in the pony threads.

I thought I might bring this by to you folkses.

So, Calpain, one of our very own, gone the way of Muumi, Gigatoast, and various others to have "made" Equestria Daily through their own exploits, had this post on a Nightly Roundup.

Hey guys, starting off tonight on a serious note because there are some things I would like to clear up, especially if you are a follower of my Twitter feed. After putting a lot of thought into it, I have come to a conclusion that the fandom around pony has caused me enough stress and anxiety that it is possibly contributing to my problems. As such, I have made a decision that if my stress and anxiety from the fandom does not let up by the end of season 4 I will resign from my position here at EqD and disappear from the pony fandom completely.

This is not something I am taking lightly, but after the stress from the drama caused by the season 3 alicorn drama, the EqG drama (which still continues), being called a 'Hasdrone', drama during the media wars, the 'Down with Molly' drama which effected me as I am an editor on that tumblr, and just the general complaints and whining I experience everyday… I am just burnt out. And if it continues I just don't want to be a part of it anymore, for the sake of my health and happiness.

Now if you were here a while ago, Cereal Velocity (and various others from EqD on other occasions, I'm sure) used a vector made by Advance in a banner (and episode follow-up) for Equestria Daily with no mention of Advance. What made it worst is that the only name on the banner was Cereal Velocity's.

Equestria Daily justified/rationalized this by saying that the credit would be given in a later post. The banner would have been up for a couple of days, at least, and the credit in a Nightly Roundup (which does not receive nearly as much readership according to the number of comments, but that may not be a good assessment of what gets readership) would consistently be bumped downwards.

We made a stink (not quite a "stink" of it, but we did produce a slightly pungent odor) of it seeing as Advance singlehandedly overtook KYM that time I banned him and forced (ok, everyone just did that by their own free will) everyone to take on Rarity as part of their avatars and some to take on "Advance" as part of their usernames was one of our own. And on the whole, we generally being an objective group of people, we just found the whole situation to be shady. So from that, it hasn't been a stated dislike or disinterest, but KYM hasn't really followed EqD as much since then (this news and the news I'll give in a bit being evidence of that.)

In any case, Calpain has openly stated that he's been battling depression. Being a key editor and contributor to the largest, one of the oldest, and most central fan hub for bronies in the fandom, he gets a lot of heat. In combination of his awareness of his depression and the drama from EqG and Twilight Acorn, Calpain seems to have taken things a bit hard.

…if I could be frank, then I might say, "too hard."

It's easy for me to say. Despite being easily annoyed and feeling hopeless from time-to-time, I've never been diagnosed as having depression. The pony fandom on the whole doesn't bother me. And I never got much flak at all for the two surveys (even with the questions dealing with R34 and sexuality.) But I would expect the smallest (and perceived) errors from Equestria Daily to be harped on, and I'd expect to be bombarded with silly comments and emails on the most trivial of things.

Ponydom is a fandom. Some of us are just "fans," but it's short for "fanatic." Just as we get very excited, we get very butthurt about the same show and its developments (or things we think might develop.)

But seeing where Calpain is mentally right now (I assume he's still in a PhD program which is enough of a task with or without a mood disorder,) I would suggest he just go on an indefinite hiatus and just lurk (or even bail out entirely.) Just like I have and many of us have, we've become friends with other bronies, but we may not always (or ever) talk about the show or the fandom. If he has that sort of support online (or offline,) then I think that would be the best for him.

Just like thelivingmachine02 (God rest his Pony arting soul…), Calpain has certainly "served his time." He's contributed plenty to EqD. He really owes nothing to the fandom (not that any of us do.) I'd say to simply head off until everything else is sorted out.

Some of us are really attached to the fandom and the show. If it gets to a point where it's consistently too stressful (much like anything else in life that isn't crucial,) then I think it's best to step away.

If you've got a few kind words for Calpain (I've found him to be a jolly guy on the whole,) then you might want to send a couple his way. I know a few of you can relate to depression, and you're fans of the show/are a part of the fandom.

On a brighter note:

@Verbose: Oh well.

Being part of anything "big" as EqD can be stressful (I know it's a different scenario, but things aren't all flower and raibows for you mods either), I surelly hope he gets okay, regarless if he keep going in EqD.
Besides, maybe his time working there is over, and is time to move on. If anything like a show or game is hurting you, it's time to give a brake.

Get well Calpain

Anyways thanks for mentioning that Verbose. I go through EqD rather quickly these days, so I might've missed that if it werent for you.

I already dropped by his dA, and left him a small message. He's one of our old friends after all.

Same, but shot him a KYM PM, just hoping he still has the email notifications on. Gotta respect the heroes of old.

(I also believe that what Verbose meant with "gone the way of", that you guys were referenced or mentioned on the site through fandom contributions, which is shown that he follows up with other names. Do indirect references also count, like a Daily Dot article you helped with for research and were quoted in, which was later mentioned on EqD? What, no? Oh ._.)

It would appear that all it took to summon the mysterious Muumi was a simple call of the name. No elaborate rituals, no sacrifices. Just a simple acknowledgement that he exists.

God, I miss people. Don't let them see you cry, you bastard.

In any case, I'll be sure to send some words Calpain's way, Verbose. Thank you for bringing us this.

Tell Calpain that we miss him and that the KYM bronies need more science.

@Calpain drama
I was waiting for someone to mention this. I come from the crazy and clop filled world of Fimfiction, where Knighty's accused of being a dictator every time her changes something and fanfic drama runs rampant.

Most of all, people post "I'm leaving the fandom and never returning" blog posts daily. It's to the point where people make fun of it on April Fool's. So I'm used to people "quitting", and I'm even more used to people "quitting" and then returning a month later after their jimmies have settled down.

It's sad Calpain's got depression. I've never known what it's like. The closest I've come is that feeling I get after I read a [Grimdark] (or think about Princess Euphemia), so if ponies really are enabling his depression then it would probably be best if he took an extended leave.

A big part of it, though, is I think he's taken things a bit too seriously. I go back to my rule of "don't give a shit". If drama kicks up, have fun. Enjoy the rustled jimmies and overreaction gifs that are posted. Since you're an admin, you have to act seriously to all those rustled jimmy emails and messages you get, but that doesn't mean you have to actually take them seriously.

It's a fandom. The whole point is having fun and enjoying your time away from school/work whatever. When you start getting more stress from that then you do from IRL, you need to reevaluate how you are reacting and participating in the fandom.

I'd suggest he get back to the roots. Maybe come back to KYM and find out what it's like to simply have fun again without worrying about moderating or responding to emails. He might even be able to find joy in the shitstorms once more.

@Stunt
Aw, I can't blame you for stalking.
I mean, really?
Who could resist?

In all honesty, you do the running joke right.
Now, if every single one of your posts hammered at it relentlessly, then it would get old but 90% of your comments are just 'normal' (as far as that word goes here) conversation with the joke only being brought up where actually appropriate.
You're all good.

@Alex's video
Nope!
0/10!
Totally unrealistic!

@Calpain
Yeah, I saw that just before going to bed last night.
I wasn't here during the time that Calpain was so I've never really interacted with him directly, but I am sorry to hear about his troubles.
He's one of the primary mods on one of the biggest and most drama-filled pony sites on the 'net (plus, I think I saw that he helps edit JJ's Molestia blog) and I can see how having to filter through that crap on a day-to-day basis could really wear thin.
If he feels the need to step away for a time to cool down, more power to him and we wish him all the best.
I'd much rather he take a break now, before he's reached his breaking point, than after.

And, hey!
If he ever wants to take a break from all the drama, he can just come back here!
We never succumb to… those…

@RandomMan

I also believe that what Verbose meant with “gone the way of”, that you guys were referenced or mentioned on the site through fandom contributions, which is shown that he follows up with other names.

Bits of both. Muumi is a lurker here, but he is awaiting inspiration to put pen to paper and Pone again. Calpain and Gigatoast no longer post here, so it was along the lines of relative inactivity and being known outside of KYM for their contributions to the fandom.

RM, you are still active, so I didn't mention you. I also just meant to say a few to set the example of the kind of user I had in mind.

Teh Pone

@Vazquez

It’s not chicken Dammit. it’s chickun. It’s a 4chan /b/ thing and since most of you don’t go there, most of you have no idea what your talking about. Also the entry is only half correct.

You would certainly be more qualified than any of us to write about that entry. Why not give a shot at editing it?

@Verbs and the case with Calpain

It's certainly unfortunate to hear that he is going through so much stress. Perhaps that's not too surprising because he is at a very central position in the fandom (being part of both AskMolestia and EqD) running a very pivotal role in it. I suppose you could say he's kinda right in the middle of this mosh pit.

This is a huge fandom and from what I gather; he happens to be bearing a chunk of its weight being where he is. I can understand totally why he needs a break

My personal advice to Calpain: screw all that EqD noise and come back to KYM!

We might have our share of shitstorms here but at least he can be on the side handing out those storms out rather than being on the receiving end. He can go back to being just another dude in the fandom having fun with it like you normally should, and not bearing any responsibility! It will be just like the old days!

I know I never got to know Calpain that well, seeing as how he left somewhere around the time I joined but I reckon going back to his roots is just what the doctor ordered. Plus I'd like to get to know him more

Someone tell him to come over here and that BSOD said Hey sexy Hi.

I'd love to comment more, particularly on that video but I just moved into a new house and my internet isn't fully set up. My appearances here will be limited until further notice. Kill the spambots for me

@Calpain

You guys also need to remember that he's currently in the middle of a PhD in (I think) chemistry. So on top of all that other bullshit, he has to get his thesis finished. For me, the start of grad school lead directly to a drop in my fandom activity (I basically retrenched to just this site), and I was never as huge a part of it as Calpain is (or even close, for that matter). That he has kept this up for so long – the fandom work AND the degree – shows that he must have an immense reserve of energy and dedication. I say that whatever kind of break he takes, he's earned a bigger one.

@Platus

Good point

@Stunt

I don't think I can make it. I feel like I'm too hung up on other priorities right now to deal with that fic. I can't rally my creative writing spirit while I'm doing so much other work. I don't even have reliable internet access at this time.

May as well have someone else take control of my character

You deleted your post? …ok

Okay, Pinkie, so what is it?

What, I can't come down and check on my fans? It's been a super long time since I last saw you!
Pinkie, you ruined my post…

No need to swear at me…
…Alright, sorry Pinkie. Thank you for reminding me. I'll ask now.

Alrighty! Just be sure not to waste all your time making a pointless meta post!

Alright guys, looks like I need a bit of help here. Radio show is almost due, but I haven't got an interview yet. So, i'm going to need two things; Someone who can hold a 6 to 8 minute interview and someone who can tell me how I'm supposed to hold one and make it an audio file that I can edit. Sorry the post was so long, but I wanted it to be eye-catching so that more people would give me a hand.
Oh, and seeing as it was covered by pinkie, here's the original post again:

@DeadParrot
I'm glad you think so!

I wouldn't want to let my Master down!

@Jimmy

Due to popular demand, the non-story and story sections of the RP have been seperated into different docs.

For those who have not added any sections yet (namely Blue Screen of Death and Alex Mercer, remember, you don't need to wait for a set date; just write it whenever you have time, as long as you don't keep the rest of us waiting too long. As for everyone else, feel free to write your second section now as well, there's no real reason to wait (plus new people are still welcome!)

@DP and those baby names

If I'm going to name any of my kids its going to be:

Girl: Luna (Because its a legit name), Sali (big maybe), Maya, or Arlene (Straight outta the game)
Boy: ….naming boys is a lot harder than naming girls alright STOP JUDGING ME

As for Calpain, guy just needs to finish what he needs to do, light a cigar, crack open a beer, and give a long "fuck you" to everything that is life. He's more than earned it with the shit he's been going through.

akurate reperesentattion roight thar

What do I have to imagine with this 6-8 minutes? And do you just need anyone or is your aim preferred at someone with experience with the fandom.

In case of some sort of fandom experience and helping out, you have Verbs and Opspe with their survey and bronycon presentation, my research for this site, artists like Muumi (art), Fifths (music) and DP (writing). Amongst others.

Well, I still can't help Stunthead, and I don't think I have much to say about anything else than I hope Calpain recovers and doesn't leave. It's always sad when someone has to leave something fun for them behind. Hell, I hope that he can stay in contact with the fandom in some way, even if he has to stop moderating EqD.

Other than that, I'll just post this:

Why yes, I DO like posting weird goofy pictures, why do you ask?
