@Pony Plushies
New ponies?!

Those new ones do look pretty good and it's been nice to see Hasbro slowing increasing their quality over the past couple years.
They're still sticking to the whole 'brushable hair' thing though, and that always kind of ruins the accuracy, at least on their budget.
(It is understandable since a lot of their early and continuing MLP marketing focused on 'Brushie, brushie, brushie!' but yeah.)
Brushable manes and tails can be done, but the materials to do it right are much more expensive and harder to work with.
Commission work, however:

Now, if you want to talk 'accurate' and 'official' in a plushie, I think we'd have to mention the Spike from Build-A-Bear.

That's probably one of the best, cheapest, and widely-available character-to-plush work that has Hasbro's stamp of approval.

@Next Rarity Episode
It should be somewhat expected, but…

Yep, some more Spike x Rarity is on the way!

@Rule 85
Here, have some ponified chemistry/particle physics:

@rarara episode

Spike gets a girlfriend and stops doing chores for Rarity. Rarity gets super jealous, breaks down from having to make a huge dress for Steven Magnet without any help, and plans to have spike's girlfriend stuffed.

In the end Rarity finds out that Spike's "girlfriend" was actually just a body pillow. These developments leave everyone…

in stitches!

Good thing they cut out the scene where Rarity plans to murder Spike and his girlfriend then off herself cause that ending would've brought down the entire episode.

I have an even better idea for a Rarity episode…..Rarity…..Becomes an Alicorn princess! It can be a musical episode too!

@Plushies

I think DeadParrot hit the nail on the head about the whole subject, Fan-made plushies will always look better since they can be as expensive and complex as they need to be, since they aren't being produced on a mass scale, in my opinion as things currently are, Build-A-Bear is one of the best official pony plushie suppliers as far as quality goes Disclaimer this comment isn't sponsored or endorsed by Build-A-Bear in any way shape or form.. I just like their ponies – and if the hair being too short bothers you and you're good at this type of thing, you could always customize it and add more screen accurate hair to them, although I think Build-A-Bear is one of the best at official pony plushies, I do however think their costumes need work.. Since I found this one a little frightening..

:

Also I find this a little off-putting as well.. I don't know why..

AND THAT'S HOW EQUESTRIA WAS MADE!

Damn it, you guys! Ya blew it!

Nope. It was just a fad a few months ago where people drew Rarity fighting the Giant Enemy Crab from some PS3 launch title. So she made a sarcastic response to those pictures saying that since that the fandom is using it they can't use the idea out of fear of being sued (trust me, some brony would probably try and sue Hasbro for using 'Rarity fighting Giant Enemy Crab' as an episode idea). If she read KYM she'd probably stop reading after a while.

As for the synopsis, it makes me more glad than ever I decided against reading the story. After reading countless [Grimdark]s, I've grown weary and tired of stories who's entire plots are founded on some of the firmest grasping of the Idiot Ball possible. If you have to have everypony act like idiots in order for your grim future to make sense, maybe you should rethink your grim future.

It's also funny you mention the gun thing, as that seems to be the #1 complaint I've always seen concerning Fallout: Equestria. "There's no way they could aim with saddle mounted guns!" "What about the recoil?" etc.

@Karma Shitstorm
It's been a while since we had a shitstorm (unless you count the whole "lock the Image Gallery" to be one). It feels good knowing I didn't completely avoid it to participate in Fimfiction's. I will continue to abide by my "don't give a shit" policy until jimmy rustling occurs and I bitch about it on Fimfiction.

I read (the last third of) a fanfic with this as it's plot. But instead of hilarity ensuing, it had Rarity go insane, kidnap Flitter (Spike's girlfriend), then have the Diamond Dogs rape her. It ended with Celestia enforcing another wonderful fanfic justice system and encasing Rarity in diamonds (while concious) so she could spend the next fifty years seeing how everypony lived without her. Then, Celestia mindraped everyone (including fellow Princess Twilight) into forgetting Rarity.

Then it was revealed to all be a dream/vision Discord gave Celestia. Jimmies would have been crippled had I actually cared about the story.

Speaking of shitstorms…

Guess what's baaaack. Silly forum, thinking Tumblr shitstorms ever end. They just end up like the chicken pox, festering under the surface for years or decades until something causes them to rupture out and create lasting nerve damage in 20% of those infected.

(Yo Dawg, I heard you like quotes.)

Before saying anything on this topic (which I'm sure everyone is dying to hear more about), I thought I'd mention that I finished my second reading of Fallout: Equestria today. That means I've read a little over 1,240,000 words from that fic alone. Unfortunately, I'd invested so much time into it that I feel kinda crappy now that it's over again. I've tried looking into some of the side stories, but they all want a serious commitment, and considering I've just ended a long-term relationship with my last FO:E fic, I don't know if I'm ready for that yet. Seriously, check out those word counts:

I'll never understand how anybody can find the time or motivation to write something so epic without expecting anything in return. As a reference, the original FO:E is roughly the same size as the first two books in the Song of Ice and Fire series combined, and George R.R. Martin sure as hell didn't write those for free. It's actually significantly longer than the entire LoTR series (which is making me wonder why I spent so much time reading a fanfiction when I could have been reading LoTR instead).

Even though it's barely even tangentially related to ponies by this point, I still feel like setting the record straight on this one. The Fallout: Equestria megaspells can be thought of as an in-universe equivalent of nuclear bombs, but only when they're used in a certain way. A megaspell is pretty much just an amplified spell, and there are various ways of casting them. Some must be cast by multiple unicorns working in tandem, while others can be packaged and detonated at a later date. A balefire megaspell would act like an extremely powerful incendiary device when activated, and that's because balefire, at least as it appears in the FO:E universe, is a zebra-developed alchemical fire. It has a nasty habit of burning at ridiculous temperatures, leaving behind deadly fallout, and mutating whatever it doesn't outright kill. Balefire in FO:E isn't anywhere near as cool as the balefire described by Lunar Protege, which apparently comes from the Wheel of Time series (I've never read it, but I've heard good things about it). The megaspells aren't just limited to this though, and can also be used for things like mass-healing or chemical warfare, hence why I wouldn't agree with them being 'essentially nukes'. They're a bit more awesome than that.

@'Down With Molestia' discussion

The only real problem with this P.A.R.C thing is that they chose to associate themselves with D.W.M. They've practically guaranteed that nobody will ever take them seriously by attaching themselves to a movement renowned for not thinking anything through. If they were completely independent, they wouldn't get anywhere near as much bad press.

Also, I take issue with their poster. They missed a perfect opportunity for a wing-hug.

Silly Celestia, horse legs don't even bend that way.

Hey y'all. Now, I don't know much about fanfics, so I'm just gonna side-track whatever has been going on here with something earth-shatteringly important (pfft, yeah right) that's troubling me. Yes, it's pony related.

So, as I said a few pages back, my friends are getting me the DVD of Equestria Girls for my birthday (or, that's what they say anyway). They want to force me to watch it with them for a few laughs, and I'll probably never hear the end of it. Anyway, I said that I'd do it if (and only if) they first watch through all 65 episodes of the show. I thought that would make them stop going on about it, but they seemed to seriously consider doing it. Now they have pointed out that making them watch every episode by the end of October, while university is going on, is probably a bit much. Okay, I agree with that.

So, here's my conundrum: which episodes should I make them watch? Only around 10 in total, something like that. Keeping in mind that these are a couple people who have absolutely no experience with the fandom, are completely new to the show, and who generally see the fact that the fandom exists at all as being mildly entertaining. I still doubt they'll watch them, but if they do then I guess they will have proven the lengths they will go through to make me watch Equestria Girls with them.

I think I'll give them the first two episodes of season 2, since that's what was going on at the time when I first started getting into the show, but beyond that I have no ideas.

You know, having typed all this out, it sounds like they just secretly want to watch Equestria Girls and need me there as an excuse… Huh. Go figure.

Okay, I'm on my phone so I can comment.
@Plushies: I saw a bunch in one of those grabber machines. I think they might be the build a bear ones since it was Spike, Dash and Pinkie and they all looked fairly well made.
@Revenge Of The Drama: Oh cap, not this again… Somebody PLEASE shut these morons up!

Watch as colorful equine become props for one girl's voice while those with a head will grab buckets of popcorn to watch the spaghetti hit the floor.

We know who this is, we know she doesn't like bronies, she tried this once before and will get another dose of reality when her project collapses when members of the community show how stupid it is. If she really did care about this problem, she would NOT be using ponies as the mechanism and just do something positive.

The start of season 2 is probably a good call. They're not particularly 'girly' episodes, and Discord is likable enough that they might be able to look past the fact that they're watching a show about pastel-coloured ponies. That's the sort of thing you should be hoping to aim for with a first impression.

If I had to suggest other episodes:

  • The Last Roundup
  • Sonic Rainboom
  • Luna Eclipsed
  • Err… It's About Time?
  • Maybe Magic Duel?

It's not the best lineup of episodes, but they're probably not as likely to scare your friends off as some other episodes could be. I'd recommend limiting their exposure to anything too heavy on Rarity, Pinkie, or Fluttershy, and also steer clear of anything CMC related.

They don't. That's the thing; people like this don't have anything better to do than sit around and bash other people about what they believe is politically incorrect. >Opinions is what it all comes down to. And finally, Molestia.

About DWM-PARC, I don't really see the point of getting so pissed off at the Molestia blog. It's just a part of every fanbase, and I don't see how this one blog is really different any from any of the countless (and much more obscene to be honest) fanart and stories around the internet. That being said, it's about as far off as possible from the original point of the show, (save for maybe setting up concentration camps.) I understand where they're coming from when they think that the "rape" stuff can be kind of triggering (or just nasty for someone who just wants to enjoy a cartoon,) but I'd just ignore it and let it be.

@P.a.r.c.: If you're going to use an acronym at least make it so that it will form an actual word (PARC just makes me think of parkas and parking my car in harvard yard). And if Pinkie Pony was so set on bringing this movement back and made a point of changing the name and making it look different and everything why did she ruin it all by saying it was formerly DWM? It just ruins the purpose of making a new movement.
And that poster is so poorly done it makes me want to cry tears of blood.

@Commodore:
I would suggest at least one episode centered around each mane 6 character, such as:
- Fluttershy: Hurricane Fluttershy
- RD: Sonic Rainboom
- Twilight: Lesson Zero (or maybe just any season 1 ep, seeing as they are almost all focused on her)
- AJ: Applebuck Season
- Pinkie: Party of One (or Too Many Pinkies)
- Rarity: Suited for Success (Or maybe A Dog and Pony Show)
And then the season 2 premier is also a good start. I would also have them watch at least the first episode because while it is not the greatest, it establishes everyone's characters (I don't necessarily think they have to watch episode 2 as well). Maybe throw in A Canterlot Wedding while you're at it.

Probably would be on the negative side if it does, but I could see it on a radio or something.

@Ponies against rape thing

Don't you guys think it's kind of funny that there's a popular tumblr about a pony princess from a popular children's TV outright raping other characters from the same show and the person who decries this tumblr as wrong is regarded as the ridiculous party?

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the Molestia tumblr as well, but I feel like we might be on the wrong side on this one. Normally I find feminist cries of rape culture to be ridiculous but…well…Molestia kind of makes those words seem not so hollow to me. I don't think that Molestia is really causing any kind of fucked up behavior, but the fact that it can even be stomached and enjoyed indicates something I think.

Just observing.

@Jimmy

You're behaving foolishly.

@Fifths

Yep, from a more outsider perspective that is certainly how it appears. When you look at it that way, it becomes easier to comprehend how such offense and concern originates.

The people who invented the term "rape culture" weren't the ones making all the rape jokes. It was created by the people who looked at the rape jokes and figured they must be living in a society where it isn't taken seriously enough. So you definitely need to observe the issue from the outside to truly understand where it is coming from.

And rape is indeed a serious issue. I don't see anyone disagreeing with that. I'm pretty sure even people who read the Molestia blog wouldn't advocate it in the slightest

What most people question is whether or not the Molestia blog is a valid target, whether or not "rape leniency" really exists in this fandom or modern culture in general.

People joke about raping things all the time both inside and outside the fandom. But does that mean they support rape? Does that mean they aren't sympathetic to rape victims? Does that mean they would willingly commit rape?

Those are the questions that need to be asked before any middle ground is reached.

Take a look at those above macro's. We know who made them. They all joke about rape. Do the people making these macro's support rape? We know the answer is "probably not" since you would make them too just to keep up with the joke. And as you make or laugh at said macro's, you may think it's funny but you know you wouldn't laugh at an actual rape. Personally when I see these, I don't even think about real rape. These macro's play out more like a bondage porno where the "victims" actually want it as opposed to an actual assault

Bad taste? Yea probably. But the macro's are not the product of "rape culture" any more than SmileHD is the product of "murder-culture". However, we only know that by being inside the culture itself

If you were an outsider with no understanding of the kind of people that made those macro's, it's very easy to assume the worst

So that said, yea it does look rather odd that we stand in support of an abrasive and vile nymphomaniac horse and shout down someone who demands more sensitivity in regards to rape victims. Maybe we should throw these guys a bone and just not make so many rape jokes.

No,. What I find funny is that people think they can objectively define what "comedy", "satire", and "parody" are, when in reality, none of those things can be objectively defined and then, using their own definition, decide to try and force others to conform to their views because people might be "offended" by comedy. Imagine that, humor offending someone. Who would have though that would ever happen?

I also find it funny that these same people spend hours and hours each day online, ranting about the "rape culture" (despite the fact that rape is universally considered in Western society to be worse than murder. All the while, women are stoned to death in Saudi Arabia for adultery (sometimes even from being raped), Female Genital Mutilation ravages a hundred million Africans, and gendercide on female fetuses is routine in India and China.

That's just hilarious.

No. I will not be throwing Tumblr no such bones. If they get offended by jokes, then so be it. Humor is subjective. Censoring anything, whether it crosses the line twice or not, is never an option I think should be taken just because someone gets their jimmies rustled. Because the fact is, everything offends someone . No matter what it is, someone will be "triggered" by it. You can't compromise artistic freedom just because some people don't like the art.

Their basic argument is literally "rape jokes lessen the severity of rape, therefore they cause more rape". Western Society considers rape to be worse than murder. We have for centuries, if not millenaria. The severity and seriousness of rape isn't and won't go down just because people try to find comedy in it. After all, comedy is tragedy plus time.

A good analogy would be Godwin's Law Nazism. What they stood for and the things they did will always be horrible and will always have the air of seriousness they deserve. Being called a nazi remains one of the standard insults, yet, Nazism has been parodied, made fun of, and joked about since the Three Stooges first made their short. We still take it seriously, but that doesn't mean we can't still find the humor in it.

Are we seriously revisiting this topic again? I can think of 20 issues off of the top of my head that are more important than this insignificant piece of internet drama. To be honest, I would hardly even consider acknowledging the stupidity that this topic produces. I will acknowledge that the topic of 'rape culture' is real, despite it’s poorly made name, but is overly exaggerated from my perspective. When I walk down the street, I don' think, "I wonder who I am going to rape today". Like every single extreme in western society that we frown upon, a majority of males does not commit rape; however it will increase with males who are engaged in aggressive sports or conduct (football players, frat-boys). The proposals that these feminists create 'to end rape culture' mainly vilifies the majority of men, thus males who are likely to commit rape will simply tune it out while the rest of the males targeted by this type of propaganda will simply be offended and dismiss it; thus they turn around and assume all men are pigs and will continue to spew their message aimlessly.

Rapists do not select their victims by their appearance. They select victims who are vulnerable and accessible. Victims of sexual assault range in age groups from infants to the elderly. Sexual attractiveness is not an issue. One out of four women is sexually assaulted at some point in her life. One out of six men is sexually assaulted at some point in his life. If we are seriously committed to ending 'rape culture' here in the western world than we need to propagate the message of respect, which would solve a lot of issues in the world, but I doubt that is going to happen due to the arrogance of both sides of this dialogue and the childish tendency of accusation humans tend to have. But it still will not end the dark satire of rape and other extremes of human nature.

@fifths

Pinkie Pony's behavior is enough to turn most people against DWM and PARC.

Being against DWM and PARC doesn't mean we automatically endorse rape culture or even think rape jokes are funny necessarily.

On top of that I don't see how being against something in this fandom that will never accomplish anything aside from stirring up more shit when most of us just want to post ponies in peace is being on the wrong side.

Also this is somewhat related though I think it was made in parody of one picture in particular

This is another thing that made people angry about DWM and there was a lot of it going on.

@BSoD

Eh, Tumblr will just find something else to be offended about anyways.

I might be on sporadically since I'll be playing GTA V, writing story commissions and doing Math homework.

@Offensiveness vs Prudishness

I have to wonder… Have these "Down with Molestia" people ever heard of "Black Humor"?

It's that thing where humor is derived from questionable subject matter. The more offensive the funnier. Heck, to fully appreciate the joke you have to be mildly offended… And then laugh.

…I have… At one point found the master of this… Called Ansem Retort.

Aerith: So… Got a new year's resolution?
Marluxia: You betcha! I'm going to start a new holiday.
Marluxia: I'm going to promote LGBT acceptance. I'm calling it "Friend A Gay Day"!
Aerith: So… You invented "Fag Day"?
Marluxia: What? No. It's Friend…A…Oh…
Aerith: Well, Merry Fag Day Everyone!

… I am slightly embarrassed it even exists, and even more so that I find it funny…

…I'm just going to sit in the corner now and see how many inevitable down-votes I get… And then cry…

Though I roughly agree with you, I feel you have a bad argument. Allow me to explain why.

First off, yes, you can define comedy, satire, and parody, and it's no more difficult than consulting your local dictionary. I think the point you were trying to make is that what people find funny is subjective. I agree with you there. We can't go censoring some forms of comedy and not others purely because certain groups feel differently about its comedic value.

That being said, I don't agree with the uber-privileged status you give to comedy. Just because you or I find something really funny doesn't mean there can never be any reason whatsoever to censor or stop it. For example, I think it would be hilarious to shoot the Vsauce video guy in the fucking head, but allowing me to murder someone is far too great a cost just for a chuckle.

So the question becomes how much value do we put on a joke? Now I don't believe that there's any real evidence to suggest that the existence of things like the Molestia tumblr is really encouraging rape, but we should at least be willing to concede that IF such a thing were the case, it would be an entirely acceptable measure to start censoring such media. I'd rather live in a society where people are telling me that I can't print some things in the newspaper over a society where there's a good chance I'll get buttfucked by a horde of wild bronies wanting to live out their Molestia fantasies when I step outside.

In reality, the only harm I think the tumblr and rape jokes generally do is upset a few people and perhaps tell on a culture that's a little sick. Now I agree that a feminist or a rape victim's hurt feelings by no means justifies a government authority to come in and start telling us what we can and cannot watch, but I think it does encourage some introspective thinking about the jokes and media we're enjoying. Maybe we should stop watching this kind of stuff, not because someone is telling us not to, but because it's fucking disgusting and we should feel ashamed for enjoying it.

I guess what I'm saying is that we should at least be willing to listen to what the feminists have to say and critique the media we're watching instead of just comparing them to Nazis with too much time on their hands. Insisting on watching or doing something for no other reason than it pisses someone off doesn't make you a fighter for personal liberty, it just makes you an asshole.
