My roommate tried to seduce me one time…

It didn't work at first, but then she tried something else… with socks…

EDIT: Page Get. I dedicate this page to Lyra and her teachings!

Can anyone else find images of her teachings in anthropology?

Sorry guys, but in what world does this

count as direct confirmation of Faust intending Twilicorn? Saying 'that sort of thing' implies that Faust had a similar basic storyarc idea for Twilight where she achieves her destiny and ascends in some manner. Twilicorn is a realization of that idea, but it is most certainly not the only realization of it. Honestly, you guys are giving Faust too much credit in even assuming she had much of a plan to be confirmed or contradicted so early on in the show's development. When we combine what she said on 4chan with this.

It suggests to me that Faust simply hadn't thought that far ahead. She probably had some vague idea for Twilight 'ascending' in some manner, but she simply hadn't fleshed it out yet. The idea of an alicorn Twilight was probably on the table, but given how Faust kind of had a thing for the only alicorns in the show being the royal sister, I'm going to bet that Faust would have steered away from Twilicorn if given the chance to bring the show to its completion.

Faust is really just trying to say "Look, this is the same basic idea that I had in mind, so would you all just calm the fuck down?"

How does that work? She becomes chancellor or something? And what about Luna? And who would raise the sun? It took the entire unicorn race to do that before.

I shudder thinking of the thousands of constitutional crisis/rebellion against Twilight/Equestria imploding without Celestia fanfics that would have been written.

Speaking of fanfics, l just stumbled across someone who viciously tore apart one of my stories on Livejournal. It was an interesting experience to say the least. First, because I never imagined I'd have one of my stories get the "My Immortal" treatment, and secondly, it gave a fascinating look at another community.

The story, Stereotypical, was written as a critique (a very anvilious one, mind you) against how many readers view red and black OC's. Most of the Fimfiction readers understood that. The Livejournal commentators think it was written as a "take that" against some unnamed critic of my OC's (and for some reason thought I wrote a shipfic about my OC and Big Mac). Livejournal is well known for its butthurt and drama, so I'm not surprised they would think that, considering it's probably quite common on the site. It really shows how a story can be interpreted differently depending on what a group of readers are used to and how the "message" of the story can also be interpreted differently.

It was fun, especially when my "anti-sue" caused the reviewer to foam at the mouth and use size sixteen font. Oh, and wish that Celestia would smite me for writing it. I can see now why trollfics are written.

After reading that I can't wait until I finish this story about my Mary Sue I can't WAIT to see the butthurt.

@OC family photo

YES I'M STILL WORKING ON THIS!

I just threw together Marks OC based on a drawing that he gave me. Hope this will suffice for now as I had to cut a few corners. With new work coming at me, I'm really running short of time

This is totally not a Twilight trace-over! HEY LOOK SHE HAS BURNING_PHONEIX ON HER BUTT!

Yea, pay attention to that and not my horrid lack of creativity.

Well in my defense, the sketch pretty much had that same posture anyway. Although Mark assures me it was drawn before Feeling Pinkie Keen

So there you go Mark, enjoy. Next on my drawing list is Twilitlord and then we can get this photo underway.

Checks original sketch on horrible photo

Sees BSoD's vector

Crumples sketch, throws into pit, lights on fire, and flushes ashes

begins trek across both oceans, punches shark on the way

grabs seal, finds BSoD, and drops seal obtained from ocean

SEAL OF APPROVAL!!! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!
heads back home, leaving BSoD with a WTF expression
While the vector was a Twilight trace-over, the sketch was drawn and colored by me, and so was the shitty photograph.

Not really pony related, but it comes off of the topic at hand: What will anthropologists of the future think when they discover the remnants of your society.
What if the panoply of Grecco-Roman gods that we are all taught about were actually just the MLP of their time?
So much bad fanfiction ended up getting mixed in with the canon that ancient nerds would be having a fit.

"Wait, you guys think that Hercules was canon?! He was the illegitimate son of Zeus and the strongest man to ever walk the earth! Mary Sue much? I mean, come on! The real writers would never allow such a blatant wish-fulfillment character into the show! He's all fanon!"

@Deadparrot

I'd actually call it an academic certainty that what we know of antiquity has been polluted with a substantial amount of silly nonsense. You recognize this guy?

That's Arimotherfuckingstotle, basically the main authority on all academic disciplines in the west until about 1400-1500. So, you're a medieval intellectual and you want to learn about astronomy? Here, check out Aristotle's On the Heavens. Biology? On the Generation of Animals. Ethics? Nichomachean Ethics. Want to learn how to argue? First you should check out Aristotle's work on logic organized in the organum and then you should pollish your argumentative style with Rhetoric. Want to be a writer? Poetics. The list goes on.

All those works I mentioned along with the rest of Aristotle's extent writings comprises about a fifth of the total Aristotellian canon, and probably the shittiest fifth. We don't actually have anything that Aristotle made to be read, we have either notes that he prepared himself to aid with his lectures or notes that his students compiled while listening to him lecture. Think of how much ridiculous shit has slipped into our canon about Aristotle because the ancient equivilant of some dipshit grad student misinterpreted what he was going on about.

As far as fanfiction is concerned, check this out.

The Iliad and the Odyssey were first written down at the command of the Athenian ruler Pisistratus, who feared they were being forgotten. He made a law: any singer or bard who came to Athens had to recite all they knew of Homer for the Athenian scribes, who recorded each version and collated them into what we now call the Iliad and Odyssey.

So yeah, the Iliad and Odyssey we have today is probably as close to Homer's original epics (assuming he and they even existed) as an anthology composed of stories from fimfiction.net would be to the actual show.

But hey, like fanfiction writers with the show, those bards must have been big fans of Homer. Certainly their versions of the Iliad and Odyssey stayed pretty close to the original right?

…And you guys look down on the Greeks and Romans because of all the sex and debauchery we read about them having.

Urgh…

I was in the middle of writing the new chapter for my fic… and then I realized something…

All the scenes would work a lot better in chapters I'd already written…

Also… One or two of the chapters I've Written look like they're going to start cannibalizing each other any minute. since they involve semi overlapping events.

And so it turns out… While I set out to make a new chapter…I'm probably going to wind up with less chapters than when I Started…

Basically… My Fic has found a way to eat itself…

I am so ashamed…

Oh well… I always did complain my chapters are never long enough.

Reading the reactions to Faust visiting /mlp/ around the internet. Gives me both pleasure and pity from all the butthurt, makes me realize that the vocal minority is making everyone think Bronies are the crybabies of the internet…. juuuuuuust saying.

@Fifths

Because of your awesome post about Aristotle, the larval Classics nerd in me has to say something:

You think losing Aristotle, was bad, hoooooo boy. Let me tell you a thing or two about Sappho. Basically, she was the shit, ALL of the shit – one of the best poets of ancient Greece, with a collected works spanning nine fucking volumes. But some of that poetry was lost. How much? Well, I have a translated edition of basically all we have left and, even with a bunch of notes and explanatory stuff, it barely reaches 100 pages. I think there might be two or three complete poems in there – the rest are fragments. We basically LOST one of the greatest writers in human history. Most of the parts we do have came from, say, people referencing her work in letters that later survived: "so as Sappho said 'yaddayaddayadda' and I'm sure you know the rest," but we DON'T know the rest, because those might be the only two lines of that poem that have survived. And it gets even WORSE. Some of the poems only survived because they were ripped out of their books to use as packing material in the empty torsos of mummies. We literally found a lost Sappho poem in the gut of a motherfucking mummified crocodile!

So yah, people are really fucking bad at taking care of shit. Want another example? You know Sophocles's "Oedipus Rex," perhaps the most famous Greek tragedy of them all? Well, you might also know that those plays were written for a contest, where the great writers of the day would submit their plays for performance, and a jury would pick the best one. "Oedipus," when it was premiered, placed SECOND that year. The other play, the one that is apparently better than the best Greek tragedy, has barely survived – we only have one line from it, and it isn't even that interesting.

Last one – The Iliad and The Odyssey, basically the start of Western literature, were part of an epic CYCLE spanning NINE poems which covered the ENTIRE Trojan war. Seriously. The two poems attributed to Homer are the only ones we have.

(end rant.)

That's because you go to high school. If you want to learn stuff, skip class and read.

Also, also, if you like Classics stuff and you want to have a really bad day, read about the Library of Alexandria. Basically, the loss of that library is the reason why we don't have most of that awesome shit we talked about.

That, and, before Thomas Aquinas convinced everyone that Aristotle and Christianity were totally cool together if you squint your eyes and turn your head a bit, a lot of priests were torching ancient Greek and Roman literature for being "pagan." They did it to the art too – there is a statue in Rome of the (pagan) emperor-philosopher Marcus Aurelius which only survived the early middle ages because they thought it was of the (Christian) emperor Constantine. Ancient history really is a lot of bullshit.

Here's a pony:

Pretty much standard fare for any 'event' in the fandom.
Some great stuff comes out right alongside some of the worst.
Gotta take it all in stride.

There were a few funny items to emerge from Faust's little visit, though.

This seems quite accurate and hilarious.

Not Fimfiction… Fanfiction… why does everyone assume Fimfiction? Fanfiction is a bit less strict about rules, but can delete old documents saved to their site. Luckily, I typed on my laptop's writing journal before submitting my documents, so I just have to go over them and review them… it just sucks to have to do all that over again.

@Platus

The thing we need to understand about the Greeks as well is that this was a barely literate culture. Writing was a newish advent and the oral tradition was held in much higher esteem. People didn't even know how to read silently back then, written manuscripts were just an aid to help you verbally pronounce a given work.

Keeping this in mind, realize that the ancient Greeks didn't read Homer, they listened to someone sing his epics while accompanying themselves on the lyre. Who can even guess what we're missing out on there.

The worst is Plato though. This is a man who, more than any other, is responsible for shaping our western worldview. As Alfred Whitehead famously said Western philosophy is Plato and a series of footnotes . His dialogues, some of the most beautiful philosophical writing in the western canon, is tarnished by the fact that we know Plato to have had disdain for the written word. The written word could not engage in dialectic with the reader, which Plato thought was most important to finding truth. It is for this reason, Plato tells us, that he never wrote down the most important parts of his philosophy. What we have of Plato is basically the populist fiction he wrote to get people to step into the academy so that the real learning could begin.

Oh, have a pony.

A Greek pony.

But seriously, I never realized just how restrictive FF is until I reposted my story there from Fimfiction. Plus, they don't have a rating system (which makes it an incredible pain trying to find the good stories) and only recently allowed cover images. I think that's primarily why most people assume Fimfiction. It's better than FF in almost every way.

@History, writing, stuff, and things

Of course, Plato tended to hate a lot of cool things – he even said that, in his "perfect" ideal state, he would kick out all the poets. But when we're talking about literacy, the worst case by far is Socrates. Nietzsche called him "he who does not write" for a good reason – the man may actually have been illiterate. The only way we know about his philosophy is through what was written about him – mainly by Plato (who uses Socrates as a character in his dialogues), and to a lesser extent by other writers (the playwright Aristophanes, for example, even wrote a satire mocking Socrates in his play "The Birds"). Basically all of Socrates's philosophy was conducted on the street, with him just chatting away and debating people. Who knows how much important stuff he said that was never written down? Of course, when the middle ages re-discovered Classical philosophy, they got some stuff mixed up – like in this depiction of Plato and Socrates in an illuminated manuscript, which has them in the wrong kind of clothing, and depicts their speaker-writer relationship completely ass-backwards:

Also, MOAR GREEK PONIES!

Throughout history, Arabian horses spread around the world by both war and trade, used to improve other breeds by adding speed, refinement, endurance, and strong bone. Today, Arabian bloodlines are found in almost every modern breed of riding horse.

and obvious Chinese pony

China has a long history of horsemanship. As early as the Shang dynasty, around 1600 B.C. there is evidence of horses being used to pull chariots. In the early centuries A.D. during the Han dynasty, organized breeding programs for horses began, and good horses were celebrated in beautiful bronze statues. These statues suggest that the Chinese horses were related to some other Asian and central European breeds, being similar in appearance to today’s Andalusian and looking very similar to the horses of ancient Greece and Rome. Imports of western breeds (like the ancestors of the Arabian) continued and the fine horses we see in some of the most prized examples of Chinese art are the T’ang dynasty glazed horse sculptures.

So Arabian is best pony
