Okay… Weird line of thought here. I looked at a bottle of Lemon cordial, and it turns out it has twice as much apple as lemon in it, despite the fact it's not advertised as having apple in it.

If this kind of activity happens with Applejack's family, then one can assume they don't have problems with other kinds of fruits being sold and grown out there, since apples would probably end up being used in the process anyways.

So the idea that Applejack would be steamed at Applebloom for getting something like a lemon cutie mark is unlikely… What would actually happen is that Applejack would laugh her ass off at how much of her recipes would end up using apples anyways despite being lemon based recipes.

I'm sorry, I don't completely understand what you're getting at.

Why would applejack get cross at Apple Bloom having something like a lemon cutie mark? it's still good hard work, growing lemons, and would bring money into the family.

Also, why do people think that the Apple family would be cross at other kinds of fruit? In-show, Applejack seems to care about hard work more than apples as such.

It seems every single pony in the Apple Family has an apple-related cutie mark. For Apple Bloom to break that tradition would probably make her the Butt Monkey of the family. Still, society works in mysterious ways.

On a related note, how do you imagine human ponies in relation to their cutie marks? In my personal headcanon, they use their pony cutie mark as a sort of "motif" as humans. For example, Rarity has a diamond design on her pants pocket, Big Mac has his apple core on his belt, and even Ace Spade has a spade on the front of his shirt. So, what do you guys think?

Actually, we already have our own equivalent system.

You've all heard of heraldry and coats of arms, yes? Well, turns out they share quite a few similarities with pony arse tattoos.

Back in the old days, most people were illiterate and photographs were science fiction. Therefore, if you wanted to make sure people knew who you were and what you owned, you needed a logo. Some memorable image to associate with your name. After some centuries of people using whatever their fevered minds conjured up, a codified system was put into place so that things would be at least orderly enough for people to make heads or tails of it. This system was called heraldry.

The images produced by heraldry are known as coats of arms. These serve as a sort of signature in the form of a picture. But everybody knows that, right? Well, there's also an interesting little tidbit most people overlook; there's a very strong symbolic element to them.

See, a coat of arms is often a reflection of its bearer. All those fancy items, shapes and colours actually mean something beyond what is immediately apparent. So, provided you can interpret them, coats of arms will tell you much about their owners. Quite similar to a cutie mark, eh? Here's a list of meanings, in case you're interested.

Another thing people often forget is that coats of arms are supposed to be very personal things. 'Course, it doesn't help much that the uncreative souls of the nobility took to using just their family crests instead of designing their own at some point, but screw those folks. It isn't very representative of you if it was designed for one of your long-dead relatives, now is it? But anyhow, a certain coat of arms is representative of a certain entity, be it a single person or a group. Again, quite similar to a cutie mark, no?

By the way, any of you folk interested in a coat of arms?

Let me tell you a little about my history. On another forum I used to run a little service where I'd make textures for a game on request. A little something to personalize the experience, you know? I used medieval heraldry as inspiration for it and consequently learned quite a bit about the whole matter. How to follow the rules and when to break them, that sort of thing. Hell, I even wrote a tutorial that's still being used by the folk who followed in my footsteps.

People always praised me for my attention to detail and standard of quality. I did requests both vague and specific, for clans and individuals, and the customer was almost always satisfied. Granted, they didn't really have a right to complain since I didn't charge for it, but I rarely had to even revise the design. And I had a lot of fun doing it, too.

So, I figure I might as well put those latent skills to use here. Not that designing a coat of arms is anything especially difficult, hell, I came up with the design of my personal crest back when I first started and it hasn't seen any major revisions since. Still, it helps to have the advice of a veteran, whatever the subject matter. Interested parties can throw a PM my way or mention it in their posts, I'll contact them afterwards.

The great irony about one of the symbols I designed, which I still wear on my chest every day (and that one almost all my OCs are carrying for the moment, with a sword added for good measure) is that a lot of the symbols according to the site you linked are fairly ironic, in a literal irony sense, "conveying a meaning opposite of the literal intention."

The Blue (azure) background is listed as "truth and loyalty", and while loyalty feels alright, the fact that in between my refusing to lie, and my occasional habit of not giving a straight answer to anything, and my general uncertainty. "Truth" becomes a very hard thing to grasp, turning to mystery instead.

The Gold of the symbol is listed as "generosity and elevation of the mind", and yet my generosity is usually not so much a core feature so much as an outlet for the one selfish motivation I have: to earn one's affection if I like you. Elevation of the mind however is tricky though as I could either be insane or brilliant and I wouldn't know… But either way, it's certainly not a perfectly analytical mind, as I prefer to listen to my intuition first.

If the arms of the symbol can be analyzed independently of the shape they are meant to form, making them either a crescent or a crescent moon, the "honored by the sovereign" part is completely against the principle of "fight the power" I would much like to stand for, while the "hope of greater glory" is nearly non existent as I'm pretty sure I lost all hope long ago… and the moon part of "serene power over mundane actions" only applies about half the time when I'm not on a caffeine rush.

Basically the only part that makes literal sense is the "swiftness and power" afforded by the lightning bolt I wanted it to be seen as… That nobody sees the first time anyways for some odd reason.

… So yeah, it's like… 60% to 70% irony up in here.
