So a experiment to directly fund anime through blockchain is happening.

I know this isn't that big of news media wise, but it is interesting nonetheless. There's a lot of problems with the anime industry and such, but what is being looked at is called otakucoin to help directly fund studios and such. This differs from bitcoin, cause this is more along the lines of you directly giving studios money to make anime or anime products. This is different from say kickstarter though, cause it's not a one time crowdfunding.

To put it simply: it's like a donation button.

Honestly I think in the long run other mass media genres and such probably will implement something similar. In say five years instead of lootboxes in games or shit like that they'll have a big old "donate" button everywhere on their sites.

That's an interesting idea; taking cryptocurrency technology and applying it to the anime industry. We'll see where this project goes.

Is it built on Ethereum's platform?

So apparently it's based off ERC20, which is based off Ethereum so that would be yes.
