We have been having a lot of arguments in this forum lately about My Little Pony and its saturation in the forums and the website. No one has been benefiting from these, as everyone is getting annoyed with each other.

This thread is here for us to reasonably voice our opinions, without insults, and hopefully at least lower some of the bad feelings that have been flowing between us recently.

Please be civil and please try to understand the other side.

Anything that is unnecessary and doesn't contribute will be removed.

I for one am looking forward to the well written, intelligent posts coming from MLP's detractors that we're sure to soon see. The ones detailing specific reasons why they believe that the show, its fans, and the plethora of memes and content they've generated should not be included on this site. It'll be great not having to wade through base emotional responses about how "Entire fandom is babies!" and the likes.

Now that that's out of the way, I agree with MDFification, and am fully behind the mods in their search to find a way to keep us out of everyone's hair, without detracting from the right every meme has to have popular related content on display, our own notwithstanding.

I am and always will be pro-brony in an argument… This series has helped me in ways i never thought i could be helped. Ex. from rant while having emotional breakdown. "This show and fanbase gave me back my childhood. Replacing bullets with cupcakes and muffins." Send me a message if you want full story (Wont bother thread with a bbaawww story). :3

Does anyone here have any ideas how we can stop bothering the haters? Our usual "love and tolerate" strategy would work well, but we're not always applying it.

Us BEING here is what bothers them… I really have no clue what would help, and yes the "love and tolerating" works much better than other pro-troll methods.

Pimp Abra tried to put up a decent thread about it and yet it's already invaded by bronies who don't understand the real problem…

Here's my voice and opinion: those who are bothered by the bronies aren't haters. THEY ARE NOT HATERS OF THE SHOW (they say caps lock is cruise control for cool and helps getting things clearer).
I watched one of the episodes, which was about some kind of prom involving some high class princess unicorn and many songs in it. I didn't like it as much. It was just an episode from a show resembling any episode from, let's say, Dexter's lab, Power puff girls or others shows from the same creators.
These shows ARE entertaining, I won't deny that fact, but no, they are not my #1 shows. In my case, it's surely because I'm not from the US and I may have shows in my own country I like more.

I don't mind jokes involving ponies as long as it's not in every thread, every comment, every part of the website! I'm not the only one in this situation and that's what you have to get straight. Your relentless effort in having ponies overflowing upon us is making us (those who don't see the appeal that much) even more irritated, bothered, having our teeth cringing in despair and facepalms.
Tone it down dammit! Isn't it that hard to understand?

One more thing, trending pictures are based on the amount of comments in it. Although bronies are quick to claim that, as a matter of fact, it's a sign of the gigarmous popularity of the show, it's not that simple actually. It's not that hard for someone to create tons of altered accounts and make them comment on those pictures for instance. It's not that hard to invite tons of people to only comments on these peculiar photos either while ignoring the rest of the site (for good? Seriously?)

The MPL:FiM fandom (may I emphasize that I'm talking about the fandom again?) is overwhelming, intrusive, getting out of hand and most of those who are against it are trying to point out that fact only.

KYM is neither ponybooru nor a pony-only website for the love of FSM!

But we do… Does that mean we should be hated on constantly? Also i'm not here for exclusively pony stuff (as i mentioned in my bio), im hear to make friends and engage in intellectual conversation over memes.

Yes, that's mean you should be hated on constantly. Stop up-voting your "friends" while down-voting those who are trying to point out what's wrong with guys like you.

Have you ever talked to someone who knows nothing other than only one show and that is constantly making puns about it? It's getting irritating after a while.

Like Advice Dog wisely said once : There is a point where this needs to stop and we have cleared passed it.

I'd like to copy over what DrPepperFan has commented in the MLP article for further visibility:

ATTENTION BRONIES.
I have some things I think I need to say.
1. We do NOT need to constantly be the number one trending article on Know Your Meme. Never ever EVER complain that the Pony article has fallen down from number 1. Remember, this site is called Know Your MEME, now Know Your Pony.
2. Do NOT comment on pony pic on other meme’s entirely for the sake of getting it trending. This will REALLY piss off the other members of the site, and by will, I mean it definitely does.
3. We have a forum. Has anyone here ever actually thought about using the Pony thread for actually discussing ponies? Rather than having long discussions about ponies (and Sonic) in the comments, try actually reviving the pony thread.

It's said that the quickest way to become annoyed by something is to do it all the time.

When these Pony jokes first started out I was indifferent. They weren't the greatest, but they weren't at Lolcat-level annoying. Then, Pony threads started popping up everywhere. Bronies here, Bronies there. Pony jokes invading threads completely unrelated to them. People who said they didn't like Ponies got downvoted just for stating their opinion while people who said they liked them got upvoted like crazy. It's absurd! It's ludicrous! People shouldn't be shunned because of their opinion over a show! Like DrPepperFan said, we're Know Your Meme, not Know Your Pony.

Nice to see my small list of pointers got a good reception.

As an example of what not to do on the site, I'll use the Meme Image ABC's
What was a pretty awesome idea for a forum game got overly bombarded with ponies. I personally don't have a problem with that, but we have to have courtesy for other members. A pony turning up occasionally, sure, that's fine. But every single post? No Wai. I'm gonna try to revive it, but yeah. LEt's try and cut back on them.
Equestria Daily exist's for a reason ya know.

Exactly what I tried to say.

This guy knows what's up.

MLP is kinda like Jesus: I'm cool with him; it's his fan club I can't stand. I haven't actually seen any episodes of MLP, but it looks like a pretty good show. That being said, it does seem like the Bronies are taking it a bit too far. We've got ponies on many meme entries, it's getting a bit ridiculous. Bronies: It'd be awesome if you could take it down a notch, everyone else would really appreciate it.

The quoted post has been deleted.

He's not saying there is something wrong with you and he isn't hating on your nor My Little Pony.

He is merely stating, correctly for the most part, that the fandom tends to overpost ponies and more specifically overpost them in places that aren't about them.

To Everyone: Please continue to try to listen to the complaints of the 'other side' and to understand what they are saying without getting in a huff over it.

As the founding member of K.I.L.L.P.O.N.I.E.S., I would like to point out that at no time in the previous closed thread did I say that I have personal dislike of MLP:FIM. I've never seen the show, but I'm entirely willing to believe that it's every bit as awesome the "bronies" are claiming. My kids (who are two seven-year-old girls) love the show and have also raved about its awesomeness.

The issue I have is the one that many people in this thread have already explained very well: The "bronies" are spamming the forums, if not the site in general. My personal favorite meme is probably Medieval Macros, and I'm pretty sure I have posted something related to that meme in the forums no more than three times in the entire year-plus I have been on KYM, if even that many. I'm certain I have never neg krama'd a poster for saying that they didn't like that or any other meme I was fond of. I am not against ponies; I am against pony spamming.

Prime recent example: This thread, which is not explicitly a pony-themed thread, is nonetheless over 30% pony-related posts. If you include in that count posts that aren't explicitly about ponies but the user picture is a pony, that figure goes to over 50%. On the other hand, if you start a thread that is explicitly stated to be about ponies, then people who are sick of ponies can just skip that one, while "bronies" are, as far as I care, even encouraged to go completely apeshit (or should I say "ponyshit"?) on the thread.

I don't think this is unreasonable.

Tomberry, fair enough. Great av btw.

I fully understand and agree that it has gotten kind of omnipresent at this point, and as a result, it's not much of a jump to connect the actions causing that, with the fandom as a whole. Thing is, there's really a comparative few of us who are going around spamming pony pics everywhere possible. The majority of us, while we do enjoy sharing our appreciation for the show, don't intend to do so in a way that becomes obtrusive or grating on others.

That said, Derpy just made me think of something.

The Bronies who are causing all the problems here are acting like Parasprites. Cute little harmless creatures on their own, who find a food source (in this case, space without MLP related images, etc.) and start consuming and reproducing until pretty much all that's left is parasprites (MLP related content)

Maybe having that pointed out will help sort out some of the misunderstandings on our side of things >_<

Im sorry everyone ugh… Im just really losing grasp on the situation, i know we really took the entire thing over board. As for me i try not to spam stuff anywhere… I mean if it really bothered people so bad you could just have told me so. Im in no position to feel bigger than anybody (Spent the weekend crying over my childhood)…. After getting off the phone with my mother im still firm with my suspicions. The fact of the matter is im srry for anything i might of done to piss anyone off. It just bothers me that im making other peoples lives harder by being a nuisance. Hopefully we can repair this broken relationship we have KYM.
:c

Furries are a culture that started in the 80's with a few people and constantly grew in popularity ever since. Their interest is anthropamorphic animals and show their interest in creating alter-egos and crafts. They should have no reason to be hated

Bronies on the other hand are a forced culture that started less than a year ago and their interest is simply fandom over a cartoon that's intended for little girls. They have evey reason to be hated.

Age doesn't make the subculture.

Bronies as a subculture have the same right to exist as furries or… dare I say it, hipsters.

Don't worry, you're not being a nuisance and you're not making our lives harder.

We're just asking for a slight tone down on the amount of pony related images in non pony related topics.

Please, understand that we are not trying to spread ponies. We are not spamming ponies. Most of the comments I have seen by brony users do not in any way involve ponies.
The core issue is that after the KYM mods put in a temporary filter to give them time to solve the problem that the Bronies naturally drowned out other memes, some members of our community overreacted and took this as an attack on our community as a whole. Despite the urgings of the majority of us, a few of us took to spamming comments of pony pictures on other memes.
Most of us do not approve of this, and actively attempt to get them to stop.
As for pony spam in the forums, I haven't seen any. Could someone please show me some evidence? Without it, I will be forced to assume that simple hate is going on. I think most of the current conflict is between rational individuals, and I'd like to keep that assumption.
Could we all just agree to drop the matter and let this current conflict die? Give the bronies a little time to calm down the few radicals we have, and after that any comments about how we spam will I believe be completely unfounded.

I don't think this is unreasonable.

The thread you use as an example does not qualify for the entire site. And suggesting that people have no right to have ponies for their user images is completely unreasonable.
You seem like a reasonable person. I think that if you rationally look into the entire forums, not just one forum game (forum games, I might point out, are less then 10% of all threads on this site, and most of them are pony-free) you'll find that you've greatly exaggerated the problem of pony spam, which is actually a rare phenomenon.

Te hee! You do realize we are the equivalent of internet hipsters when it comes to memes right?

Spam is a harsh word. I think a large number of those posts were just people who really like the show, just bringing it up in places they felt it was appropiate. It's not like the majority of them were mentioning it to deliberately annoy people.

Of course they weren't trying to annoy anyone.

But hell, people get tired of things, especially if they don't feel any particular attachment to them.

Alright, here I go:

I do not hate bronies. I think being a brony is perfectly acceptable. It's the bronies that spam ponies EVERY SINGLE FREAKING POST (Or, for that matter, every single EVERYTHING) That I dislike. If the bronies that spam ponies would kindly stop, I would have no more disagreement with them, but they keep on spamming, even when the moderators have gone so far as to put a filter on trending ponies. Think about that. Ponies have enveloped so much of KYM, choked out so many rising memes, that they had to FILTER THE PONIES OUT. That's ridiculous, yes? Why can't these rouge bronies just stop spamming, even when the people who run the site tell them to stop. Personally I think that what the rouge bronies are doing is equal to the acts of a troll. So, if you rouge bronies would just stop spamming the freaking ponies so much, then these useless threads would stop popping up.

For the people who said "TL;DR": Stop spamming ponies, rouge bronies.

For people who speak MLP:FiM: You guys are so silly when you keep on posting ponies all the time! Just knock it off you silly pants! WHY WUBB WOO!

Exactly.

I think bronies have been over glorifying everything, to the point where NOTHING IS KOSHER UNLESS YOU ADD PONIES SOMEHOW SOMEWHERE.

This is not how fandom should be. Infact, this isn't really fandom. It's an obsession. And just like how I have phases, this one, too, shall pass. Then everyone will go back to thinking MLP is just a toy series. No trace of history left behind (except for terrible clopfics and furry porn.)

Please remove your post. This thread is a rational discussion of how to solve the current conflict, not a place for insulting group judgements.

I agree, but for this to happen the people who instinctively blame all bronies (you know who you are) need to cease this conflict. The brony community needs to learn to self-regulate, and people who post OMG PONY SPAM EVERYWHERE GTFO only threaten our ability to become respected and establish mechanisms for preventing pony spam.
That being said, does anyone have a rational idea how to locate the very, very rare users who legitimately spam ponies, and give them warnings or temporary bans? Such as a special moderator from among the bronies themselves? Until then, we haven't solved a problem.

Good god… I leave the forums alone for one day and this happens…
@ Thread: tl;dr. Maybe later.

Jumping on this bandwagon was something I never intended to do, and I continue to resist, however after a quick peek into one of the episodes I have come to a startling conclusion: This cartoon is better than 90% of what cartoons are currently airing on daytime TV. I was surprised, and shocked, that such a franchise could come back to life with more force than it had originally, so it deserves a decent fanbase.

However, the amount of attention it has been getting is obnoxious. I mean… seriously obnoxious. I won't tolerate full censorship, but I would rather it be filtered out to keep it at decent levels.

I don't want to point fingers (Cough cough Derp-is-on-the-lose! cough cough), but it is necessary to get the spamming to stop. I'll try to track down the rouge bronies.

Also, did you not read my post fully? I DO NOT BLAME EVERY SINGLE BRONY FOR A COUPLE SPAMMERS.

Why do you have to say that I blame all bronies? I actually posted in length against that claim.

@RussianFedora
I didn't aim the post at you specifically, that part was aimed at some others. I was actually posting to agree with you. Sorry, I should have made that more clear.

Oh it's perfectly alright. YAY PEACE AND FRIENDSHIP and all that crap.

Now, let's go hunt down and ban some spammers, shall we?
