How did you start out on KnowYourMeme?

I found this site around late 2011 and lurked through the entries for a while. I thought this was a good site, but one I wouldn't create an account for. But I found a gallery I though was missing an image, but I couldn't upload it without an account. So on December 31, 2012, I created this account and named it "SS_Aduka" to upload the image. As time went on, I started uploading images and videos to other galleries and started commenting. I was able to make some friends this way. I tried to explore this site some more, and I found the forums. But when I looked through it, I just thought it would be both cancerous, and a waste of time. Today, I am known as "Eris" and I go on the forums sometimes to see what other "great" things the people of this website are talking about.

Well that's…most of my story. now how about you?

I used to just lurk browse a few of the image galleries when I was bored or read the comments on bad entries (back when they were funnier). Although it pains me to say it I actually created an account to comment on Gamer Gate. At first I was pretty much just in the comments section but eventually I moved to the forums and even visit the IRC every now and then. I also upload images that I stumble upon, especially if they belong in a not super popular gallery.

It started in a nightmare

I've known about the site for almost 4 years now, but didn't think much of it until about a year and a half ago. I was looking up a meme, and stumbled upon the trending image gallery. I loved the posts there, and lurked for about a month, and ended up making an account so I could upvote and post autistic comments on images. Visiting the site became something to do while I was just bored, and I didn't expect to use the site for more than a month or two.
I paid almost no attention to the forums until around three months after I joined, and a month later I discovered the IRC. At first I wasn't too interested in either of these features, as the forum was filled with shitty threads/games and IRC was (at the time) just oldfags mostly talking about video games and anime. Eventually though, I got progressively interested in the two until I become a regular for both. Now I'm a forum mod, something I never would have even thought of achieving when I first joined.
le ebin ironic posts aside, joining KYM has been an overall benefit for me. Posting in the forums and chatting with the users here has always been a pleasure and still is, even with the decrease in forum activity.

tl;dr: Joined to make shitty comments on softcore porn images.

I was lurking for about a year, because you know, memes. I finally joined with nothing but a goal to upload a lot of images, a massive ego and a habit of karma whoring (I literally felt so proud and victorious when my first image got like 43 upvotes). I was known as Hobotron at that time. Over time, after one suspension and 5 downvotes, my egotastic karma whoring habits started to go away. At first I posted in the comments, but then I started to post in the forums, which to me was like a cool kidz hangout zone. In the end, knowyourmeme was the first place I actually made an account and chatted with people.

Well, I knew about this site for a while, but I never showed an interest in joining until I saw an image (or was it an entry?) I reeeeally wanted to comment on because I thought my comment was super clever and would get a ton of upvotes. So I decided, since I finally have an activated email account, why not actually sign up?

So I did!

And then I thought about my comment for a little bit… And realized it wasn't so clever after all. And the pic was old, I thought there would be now one to care about said comment. So I kept it in and looked around for a more recent pic until I noticed the forum tab and decided to hang out there.

I knew about this site for a while, but I mostly used this site to look up memes I didn't know about (gasp!). Then I somehow found out the forums and I was interested in joining but I didn't because I was too lazy to make an account here. Then when the GamerGate BS happened, I made an account just to comment & post about gamergate stuffs… but I gotten tired of it after a day so now I am just playing around in the forums

Lurked on the site for about a year, then one day I just to made a account. Not much to it. I just wanted to be part of something I grown to love. I started by trying to make stupid witty comments, and decided that my calling would be posting pictures of Lesbians and yuri and become the "God of Yuri." Lucky enough, Kill La kill was new around the time I joined. I was all over the image gallery, posting incest and my favorite ships and taking about Shark-Teeth waifu. Good times, probably the best times I had on KYM. Kill La Kill was really my start on KYM.

Now I feel like I'm really apart the site and love every minute I use it. (Kinda)

I have been on this website for a few years but never really thought about participating, mostly here for the image galleries. I learned of the site though the Cheezburger Acquisition. About A year ago, my roommate JONY, started an account. I too started an account, but never used it. After a year of lurking on my own and hearing JONY's warstories, I decided to Join 6 days ago. With a stupid post to Riff Raff. I love the IRC so yeah. Lets see where this takes me.

If I remember correctly, I lurked for a month or two after being lured over here by the video series. It took some jackass who spent way too much time shitting all over the place before finally being banned (which for some reason makes me simultaneously think of the word a young child, but not too young, uses to refer to their father, and the verb most commonly associated with the keyboard, in that order) posting inflammatory pseudo-political garbage on this article for me to create an account. I then immediately initiated an argument with him that went on for several comments.
This should surprise absolutely none of you.

@daddytype
Are you a troll? Please tell me you’re a troll. No? Well then, let me say this: nobody cares. I’m not here to defend one side of this PBS debate or the other, and personally I think there are good arguements for both positions. My problem is that you are actually saw this website, made entirely for fun and basicaly a wiki for jokes, and thought to yourself “Well, time to continue to fight my personal war against the liberal menace.” And don’t call me a “leftie” for for this comment, becase I’m not, I’m in the middle- the fact that you assume that any one who dissagrees with you on anything is a lazy freeloading wellfare-receiving Commie socialist is just plain ignorant. Smarten up and go somewhere where political debate is actually supposed to be.
Oh, and if you are a troll, let me offer this second rebuttal- fuck off.

Before I created my account, I browsed the site numerous times in my senior year of high school from 2011-2012. It wasn't until late 2013 when I finally made my account, due to boredom during college, and later making KYM a permanent stay after the Google+ YouTube integration which just left a sour taste to me. A few months later I finally decided to go to the forums, and have mostly just stuck here since then.

This is like the 3rd "KYM origins" for me, but whatever.

I started early 2011 when I was just getting into MLP. I became fascinated with the articles, then soon wanted to start my own, so I made an account. I was just about to post a Trollestia article within the first hours on the site when I discovered the forums. I found the MLP thread and went from there. Instead of trollestia, I got editorship to the DJ-P0N3 and Derpy Hooves articles. After that, I convinced Olivia G to bump off inactives and add me to the main MLP article and THEN posted my first article almost 3 months later. Now, almost 4 years, 4 user names, and 3 hiatus periods later, here I am still. Lol. This must not be terminal after all.

Used to be a regular ICHB user. I lurked KYM for a long time since the site was linked from there.

But I didn't become interested in posting until MLP came to fame, in which case I started posting here to post on Pony General

I found out about KYM through Cheezburger in 2010 and lurked here until last year. Never thought I'd actually make an account here, until last year I finally said "K, I've lurked here long enough, time to join."

I guess I have found KnowYourMeme thanks to Google (bff) while I was randomly derping on the Internet.

Then the attacks in Paris happened, JeSuisCharlie happened, the rage on Tumblr happened, and I suscribed here in order to complain on the forums about how some people on Tumblr were rude about that.

Okay, I'm kidding. Though it's one of the very first things I did.

I think that the first thing I did here as a registered user was to suggest a change to the JeSuisCharlie article, about some counter-hashtags.

Now I'm here to invade KYM with Frenchiness, hon hon hon h-- [gets whacked]

I started in March of 2010. I found the site when I Googled "How is Babby Formed" and I found the article here. I then looked through the Confirmed section and noticed all the things I didn't know were exactly popular on the internet such as "You Are a Pirate". I then thought to myself "where is 'Chicken Tetrazzini'? That was popular enough wasn't it?" I then joined the site to create the entry, and while it was low quality at first, Brad came it and made it better and had it confirmed within only a month when it was created.

I'm pretty sure you're still at the bottom. Your title is merely to masked it.

Anyways, i started with the Skyrim memes back in 2012, then came the rage faces, then the creepypastas, then Kill la Kill was trending. From there i made an account.

I lurked here about 3 – 4 years ago. I will say that I actually will admit I started out as a troll. My first username was IHATEMLP (Still my login name) and I used to go on the MLP entry when it was at its peak 3 years ago and troll the comments section (MLP used to be fucking everywhere on the site, hence why they made the show fewer ponies button. It was like GamerGate but worse).

While I regret being an idiot in that comment section, I still do hate how My Little Pony is a thing considering how awful I think it as a show and I still do dislike most bronies. But considering how much it's died down

After that I just went onto the forums and stayed ever since. Took a break once or twice but otherwise here consistently.

I started out in two ways

1. Uploaded shit loads of Metal Gear Solid images on a daily basis in an effort to fill the gallery along with Dark Souls

2. Participated in the mother of all RP threads, it lasted for about 8 month. I made some good buddies through it and stuck around the forum afterward

I lurked in 2013 to learn about bronies, in 2014 I finally made an account and posted stupid comments everywhere. Joined the pony general for 3 months until i started posting in the REAL forums. Then the IRC ruined me.

I think I actually found the site somewhat helpful. This was back when I didn't have the time or bandwidth to lurk every corner of the internet. I'm the kind of person who can't stand not getting the joke everyone thinks is so funny, y'know?

And then I saw the porn memes and stayed.

i desperately needed my fix so i made an account to secretly trade images for upvotes to a scary looking guy in some back alley so i could roll around in them like the filth that i am.

jk i lurked for two or three years and joined just cause i loved the site <3

….
I read "scary looking guy in some back alley" as "some scary looking black guy in an alleyway."

….

Anyways, it appears that there are quite a few people who came here to make clever comments and get likes, including myself. That damn karma system seems to bring out our inner attention seeker….

Lurked late 2010 – 2013, after originally finding the site during a search for the meme "Coxinha Roll". Originally joined to actually work on entries (had no idea that there was any form of community before that point), and once I realized that the comments/forums existed, I used those instead.

First I coming here just to see some gifs and images. Also news.

Then I started to come here more frequently

Then I started to enter in the forums

Finally, I make an accout.

I don't remember what was my first entry to read, but thanks to KYM, I discovered the existence of that fandom full of horses.

I started using the site in late 2009 or early 2010 'cause I liked dank memes, lurked for a few years, and created an account in early 2013 because someone asked a question about a show I liked and I wanted to answer it. After that I posted on and off in the comments of memes and images for a few months, got in a few heated arguments with people over something and started coming everyday to check for responses. I then realized that hanging out in a meme site was a fun way to spend my spare time and I started coming on here all the time. A little bit after that I decided to check out the forums and realized they were far more fun than the comments sections. I've been posting regularly since.

Back in 2009 I was visiting my Moms home for my summerly visit when I discovered KYM's episodes. However, it wasn't till the next visit in 2010 when I discovered the website (somewhat independently) and stalked the site for a few weeks.

I was under the impression at the time that more media contributions meant the higher chance of something getting confirmed, so I joined the site to upload images to the Abridged Series gallery. (I eventually became an editor of that, which indirectly got some of the older Mods to sweep in and clean the entry up. I don't consider that my first confirm by any means, but it made me pretty happy.)

As chance would have it My dad had given me my first computer since the Windows 98 days that year for my birthday and I was using it to go onto Gaia Online. The MMO had baited me in for the most part and it eventually frustrated me to the point of quitting. After that point I started going onto KYM full time. Well half full time, I was still testing 3D stuff periodically on my old desktop so it wasn't my primary focus… yet.

Then it sucked me in like a Vortex.

I've acknowledged the site for 3-4 years now. I only made this account just to make this comment back when the Transformers entry was deadpooled.
After a month or two, I remembered that I made this account and decided to comment a little on some entries until I discovered the goat in the forums (which I still regret participating btw) and got introduced to the KYMtheon on my sixth month here. Once I was in the KYMtheon I started to change my username to (DJ/CJ) Sir-Soundwave, SRJ's (Apostle/whatever could fit the character limit), hence the reason why most users remember me for being a massive name changer and still am when I'm in the mood.
By my seventh month I discovered that I had a passion for uploading and tagging images an uploaded whatever I felt at the time in most of the trending galleries at the time. It wasn't until Deltamelon wanted to clean out the Reaction Faces gallery that I've felt guilty and wanted, kinda, to upload images to much more relevant entries. At month nine I had a revelation about how shitty my commenting skills were and decided to stop commenting and focus on image uploads for a while.
Somewhere between February and May 2014, a friend of mine told me to go on the IRC for reasons I currently forgot. It wasn't until the end of my first time on the IRC that I wanted to return and thanks to Ring Pop (le_noob_haxor) I made a vow to follow back every user that follows me.
Pretty much afterwards it's just been me visiting the IRC, posting on the Forums, and Mass uploading Transformers as a conversationalist, felt like an achievement back in the day.
At September we were joking about my KYM activity and started saying that's I might be a media mod, I felt like it was never gonna happen but I played along for fun. Who knew that some of them were actually serious about making me a mod. I was just gonna say my final good byes to bye, I was kind bored of the site and I felt that nobody was gonna miss me anyways, until I revived an email notification from Don stating that I became promoted to my current status as Media Moderator and started rough with image movement and repost deletion.
And here we are today as I'm currently explaining my KYM origins to you guys for fun. Boy that was an interesting trip.

I don't even remember what brought me here originally, but I finally registered just shy of two years ago to voice my frustration against the "brony plague", as I called it at the time. This was during the height of the "people won't STFU about MLP" phase, by the way. My very first comment even referred to ponyfags. Damn, I'm sorry.

Kept Googling shit I didn't understand and it kept bringing me back here, and for good material for shitposting. Decided that as punishment for its sins, this site would have to put up with me on it.
