I've been wondering whether this should have an entry for the past months, but now that Screen-Reaching Emoji has an entry with its own similar hand templates, I say it's time this transparent PNG gets some coverage (maybe as a section or sub-entry of Delet This, with which there's overlap).
Instead of tracing the origin and spread of this meme (which would be difficult), I'll just post some examples I've found here on KYM (aside from the Things Are About to Get GRUesome meme which actually uses the image).
That last one was the earliest I found (September 14, 2016), but most of them are from this year. Also, though this is the most common template, other ones are sometimes used in the same manner. This is the one I've seen the 2nd most often:
