Locked Locked
[Riff-Raff] Count Down to Tumblr Gallery Lock

Since you guys can't seem to read the Gallery Notification for the Tumblr gallery I decided I would make a game. when uploading there.

Rules

  • Tumblr gallery has 1,000 chances
  • Every new image uploaded after midnight (EST) June 8th, 2015 that is moved when a better entry exists will count as a strike.
  • Moving images out of Tumblr because of a new entry will not count as a strike.
  • Every new Tumblr image that has to me moved, but is reported in the Image Cleaning thread will not count as a strike.
  • Every Tumblr image that has to be moved and was uploaded before midnight (EST) June 8th, 2015 will not count as a strike.
  • Every Tumblr image that has to be moved and was uploaded before midnight (EST) June 8th 2015 and has been reported in the Image Cleaning thread will erase a strike.
  • Every Tumblr image that has to be moved because of a new entry and is reported in the Image Cleaning thread will erase a strike.
  • Once 1,000 strikes have been accumulated, it will be locked forever.

I'm certain that 1,000 chances is enough to show if you guys really want to see the gallery stay open or not.

Crimeariver wrote:

Wait, why the hell wouldn't we count image cleaning thread posts as strikes? If we did it would get locked even faster.

People can no longer complain after the lock with "I couldn't do anything about other peoples uploads" because they clearly could. Besides, no one really uses the image cleaning thread anyways.

i haven't seen any abuse in the gallery
either the images are moved almost as fast as they are posted or i am painfully unaware of sub-"meme"s

now after having a look at the sub-entries the only three "memes" that i think could be uploaded by mistake are: Night blogging, my dash did a thing, and the science side of tumblr.

i am not sure if these are the ones people should be checking before uploading since the content can be mistaken for normal tumblr riff-raff

and since this issues seems to be so large a problem, perhaps add a shortcut on the uploading page, like if i want to upload something to tumblr but i am unsure where it goes (or just by default) have a small list on the right/left (with images, maybe) that when clicked will send the person to the related memes uploading page.

i have fallen into the trap of uploading to the wrong gallery before, more often than not because i was ignorant of the alternative.

Holy shit, we're actually doing this.

I propose the same game for the pokemon gallery except they lose points every time they dump images of the same pokemon (1 point for each image after the first) and 10 points for posting pokeporn.

I'd normally be all for this idea, and frankly the Tumblr gallery is a mess, but Jacob has a little too much faith in the KYM community. It doesn't matter how much they love the gallery, there's no way KYM understands the value of a number they can't count to.

Also, I'd really recommend linking this thread or something on the upload page in BIG LETTERS. A lot of the frequent uploaders don't seem to be forum users at all. It only seems fair that everyone who uses it should at least see this, right?

No, this really isn't reasonable, just leave it alone. I was hoping this was a joke because of the forum it's in but if this is really being done then it really needs to stop.

If someone does something really egregious with a misplaced upload, warn them personally, or even suspend or otherwise punish them if need be but this gallery is still valid and we shouldn't be screwed out of valid uploads.

you know i have been thinking
why don't we just remove the option to upload images all together?

and if that idea does not fiddle with your pickel, just make it so only those who can edit the entry can upload images

there done deal, no more problems

i am kidding, of course.
don't do that, do not do what i said, it is a rubbish thing to do.

Do you have any idea of how long the Tumblr Gallery has been mis-uploaded

Lutien wrote:

Probably for quite a bit, so what?
Yes, there are going to be mistakes or mis-uploads when it's open to everyone, and probably quite a few when it's a big gallery. Doesn't mean it should be shut down, there are still loads and loads of valid uploads.

I look at the gallery and see a whole bunch of things that don't look like they would fit anywhere else.

Again, if someone causes severe problems or something, punish THEM, not everyone else too.

Hahahahaha, this is awesome, +1 to Crimea's comment and you could add 1 strike everytime there are 3-5 NSFW images in a row

@Crash Come on man, 1000 tries should be enough I mean there is a warning for shit's sake the gallery has like 10k+ images and that should be enough for documenting, other galleries don't even reach the 100 images I really can't understand the upvote cult

Is this a riff-raff thread anymore lmao

But that opens it up for those who don't like the gallery for abusing it to get it shut.

And it really isn't, since it sounds like it's really hard to get "strikes" erased and they're counting up stuff that could just be perfectly reasonable mistakes on the uploader's part (i.e. They considered putting it in the gallery it was moved to but it was a real corner case and they weren't sure if it fit there but it really DID fit the Tumblr gallery itself or maybe the "real" gallery was left neglected or is just extremely obscure to the point where they didn't know it was even there). Really, it's better to just not do this. Fix it wherever possible and punish egregious offenders, but don't consider locking the whole gallery

It should be really hard to get strikes, considering how an upload notice has been put up. Besides, 1000 tries is enough strikes to last for a while.

The ones who do commit strikes are either lazy enough to not search up for more relevant entries, in it for the upvotes and popularity, or ignorant of the notice.

You can sorta prevent or slow the lock by reporting to the image cleaning thread with reposts, images that need to be moved etc. Nobody ever said that you (and others who don't want the gallery to be locked) to take action

@Samekichi

Shut up. Upvotes and memes are srs business

I thought it was a joke at first (which irritated me because this really isn't something to joke about given that it's happened for real for reasons that have sometimes been rather flimsy, not much better than the reasons here and the person making the joke is in a position to do it for real) but it sounds as if they're planning to do it for real…

It should be really hard to get strikes, considering how an upload notice has been put up.

That's correct, it should be hard to get strikes. But it's not, it's incredibly easy, showing that this is just a very bad idea and shouldn't be done.

Besides, 1000 tries is enough strikes to last for a while.

1) Not at the rate that these gallery-lock fetishists seem to like to mark people down.
2) I'm not convinced that really is "a while"
3) "a while" =/= forever.
The ones who do commit strikes are either lazy enough to not search up for more relevant entries, in it for the upvotes and popularity, or ignorant of the notice.

Or made genuine mistakes, like I just explained!

You can sorta prevent or slow the lock all by reporting to the image cleaning thread with reposts, images that need to be moved etc.

Sorta prevent/slow down isn't good enough, it needs to be absolutely preventing it completely.

Nobody ever said that you (and others who don’t want the gallery to be locked) to take action

What? I think you might've missed a word there.

Shut up. Upvotes and memes are srs business

By that logic your side/point is also moot.

i wasn't gonna post here because this is a really funny thread regardless if jacob sees it through to the end.

but the idea that gallery closures aren't "really […] something to joke about" is the absolute antithesis of this forum

@Crash You're being paranoic, if anyone does that constantly they get warnings, and the uploaders were a scrapbooker and an archivist, they should know better, probably they're doing it on purpose to boost the upvotes?

Some of the galleries are obscure, yes, but most of the time they can be found, for example, the other day I found out that the Toei-version of Spiderman has its own entry, the ruined childhood gallery was locked and nobody died from a heart attack, life goes on without upboats, bruh

lol i'm still taking riff raff seriously

Then this is a terrible forum that shouldn't be on this site.
Then again, no surprise there since is the same place that thinks that having a rule where you can be suspended for literally anything is a good idea.

You’re being paranoic, if anyone does that constantly they get warnings

Then no need for this crap.

and the uploaders were a scrapbooker and an archivist, they should know better, probably they’re doing it on purpose to boost the upvotes?

Not everyone, maybe those two were but sometimes it could very well just be new users who made a genuine mistake like new users often do.

But you can't really blame someone if they DON'T go "Oh, maybe this highly obscure thing has its own article, better precisely check under numerous titles because including something that relates to both Tumblr and something else in the Tumblr gallery is a crime against humanity!".

life goes on without upboats, bruh

Why do you keep using this ridiculous strawman? I never said anything about upvotes.

Of course this sub-forum is great, we get to see people like you overreacting, I'm not going to bother doing a dissecting of your post to answer you, have fun saving the gallery, little knight

Welp, its longpost rebuttal time

@CrashGordan's reply to my post (aka forum post #703125)

By that logic your side/point is also moot.

It was a joke, let alone the fact that is was a joke to Samekichi, not you. Sheesh.

Never knew that people still take Riff-Raff seriously.

Categorization correctly is an important priority, especially considering how the main point of uploading is to document. How would you feel if you found Minecraft uploaded into the MLP gallery instead of it's respective entry? Always check before you upload.

Why do you keep using this ridiculous strawman? I never said anything about upvotes.

Congrats on taking jokes seriously. I would give you a medal

@CrashGordon94

I take this chance to tell you that your bullshitting ideas about putting what the users want before the site's rules and priorities is disgusting and sickening.

With that said; if we have to lock the Tumblr gallery then we will lock it. Your ranting only proves how much of a ignorant you are, regarding KYM's affairs .

Oh, and using whatever chance you have to complain about any changes that the administration decides to make to the site is getting tiring. Please stop complaining about how "unreasonable" is to not be able to upvote your old posts.

Like I said, we're not going to put what the userbase wants as our top priority. First it's the site and then, the users. Get that through your thick skull.

I decided to join the fun.

Edit: I just realized this is a trap. Jacob knows that I love tormenting users, he tricked me into doing mod work. DAMN.

Alright, let's go.

Moved.
Moved.

Loss: 5 points
Gains: 0 points
Net change: -2 points
Current Score: 995

We should get a plus if we warn users.

How can someone be so physically retarded that moving a discussion to a different sub-forum is already challenging? This is gold medal tier in the posting paralympics.

I'm not even gonna arse replying to your other concerns exactly because you're posting in the wrong sub-forum. Don't blame the system for your own wrongs, that's just looking for a strawman.

True, but at the same time if it was a Tumblr post about MLP in the Tumblr gallery as opposed to the MLP gallery or something, or an MLP/Warhammer crossover in the MLP gallery as opposed to the Warhammer gallery, then I wouldn't be mad.
And I CERTAINLY wouldn't be mad if it a picture of an MLP version of something really obscure in the MLP gallery as opposed to the highly obscure thing's gallery that barely anyone knows about.
See what I mean?
A lot of these recent moves were about both Tumblr and something else, in particular two of the last three (the Flash one and the flag-eating one) actually seemed like BETTER fits for the Tumblr gallery. In the Flash one the Tumblr caption was really the main focus and main meaning, and the second was a picture of Reagan biting the US flag with some jokes comparing him and Obama, the unifying factor being it being a Tumblr post about them, sure it could be in the Obama gallery but it could be in the Reagan gallery if we had one, OR THE TUMBLR GALLERY BECAUSE IT'S A TUMBLR POST!
By all means move and correct but it's important to have some leniency when it's appropriate. Having things categorized properly is good and important but you can't get pissed at someone for simply tripping over a grey area.
OH NO, A GALLERY IS GOING TO BE LOCKED SOON WHAT SHOULD WE DO?!!!
Nothing, its the mods’ choice, not yours, bye.

No, it absolutely should be protested and debated. Just because they hold a position of authority doesn't mean they're perfect or incapable of making mistakes, making bad decisions or abusing their power. And if/when it DOES happen it SHOULD be stood up against rather than just going "Well, it's their choice…".

I take this chance to tell you that your bullshitting ideas about putting what the users want before the site’s rules and priorities is disgusting and sickening.

No, your obsession with draconian rulings, never backing down or listening to reason and ridiculous hatred of the userbase for flimsy reasons is what's really disgusting an sickening. If you hate us so much, why not quit? This sort of thing doesn't help anyone.
I care about what the users want because this is a community-run website, it's not private thing with a few guys doing their personal meme database, this is the typical Wiki model and that relies on the community to fuel it and make it work. What hurts the community also hurts the site, it's as simple as that and if you can't handle actually listening to a community you should probably hold authority somewhere where you don't need to.
As for Site Rules, I wasn't saying anything about going against site rules, just pointing out the flaws in the draconian way they're being rules on. Yes it says we need to put things in the right gallery and that's a good idea regardless but these things WERE related to Tumblr! Just because they were ALSO related to something else doesn't stop that at all. If something's related to multiple things then by definition it fits any of those galleries, perhaps even all at once! Now if something's related to both Tumblr and X but you decide it's better off in the X gallery then that's fine, what's not fine is fucking over genuine users because you decided that putting Tumblr related stuff in the Tumblr gallery was unacceptable or because someone slipped up on a tricky grey area. You all KNOW this is a grey area because I've seen it discussed by moderators before! And when there's something tricky like this it needs leniency for those who just made a mistake, that's the difference between a reasonable authority figure and a simple tyrant.
I can go into more detail and even help with an example of this unrelated to Tumblr if it would help.

With that said; if we have to lock the Tumblr gallery then we will lock it. Your ranting only proves how much of a ignorant you are, regarding KYM’s affairs .

No, it's to show how this is a bad idea that shouldn't be done.
Oh, and using whatever chance you have to complain about any changes that the administration decides to make to the site is getting tiring.

Guess what, if you make a bad decision people will criticize it! Mods are not perfect, and the others generally seem to grasp that. When people have criticisms of something you need to listen to them, this is the sort of logic and behavior one would expect from a crummy fanfic author disregarding all criticism of their Mary Sue OC.

We have several other sub-forums where you can make a new thread to legit discuss this stuff?

That's got nothing to do with the post you quoted.

How can someone be so physically retarded that moving a discussion to a different sub-forum is already challenging?

I was keeping it here because it started here and I still wasn't sure that it wasn't a joke (I started because it was starting to sound as if it wasn't) so I wasn't going to drag it somewhere else if there remained the possibility that it wasn't serious. If it really IS serious then I'll go make that thread (or go there if someone else does), if not then I suppose this might as well end with this post.

Hey there. I'm gonna start a game of my own, mostly because this is hilarious.

Every user that posts in this thread starts off with 15 points, because why the hell not.

For every post you make that comes off as annoying, I'll deduct one point.

When you reach 0, I'll suspend you for a justified reason I'm sure to find.

Does point deduction only happen after this post. Or do all previous posts count towards. If thats the case the crashgordon is down quite a lot of points.

This is some fresh copypasta material. It reminds me of German Ralts' copypasta.

Also, being on topic, it's the images that do have their own gallery that matter, not the ones which actually belong to Tumblr gallery.

7th post: -5 (I have no idea what you're quoting, thus making it annoying. Also, I had to zoom out 4 times just to screencap the whole thing, so +4 points deducted)

Guess what, if you make a bad decision people will criticize it! Mods are not perfect, and the others generally seem to grasp that.

You silly idiot, read again what I posted.

Oh, and using whatever chance you have to complain about any changes that the administration decides to make to the site is getting tiring.

Did you get it now? It's up the admins to decide what to do with the site. Not even your rants can change their choice. I will say the same thing to you, if don't like why don't you quit?

Categorization correctly is an important priority. How would you feel if you found Minecraft uploaded into the MLP gallery instead of it’s respective entry? Always check before you upload.

If it really IS serious then I'll go make that thread (or go there if someone else does), if not then I suppose this might as well end with this post.

am i supposed to be able to read this?

Okay fine, this will be my last post.

Is this serious or just a joke? If it's serious I'll make that thread, if not I won't and I'll just try and forget about this crap.

Oh everyone here is serious if you couldn't tell.

If the userbase seriously cannot work with 1000 strikes they don't deserve the gallery for sure.
