It is no secret that there has been a resurgence of "wave" music based on 80s post punk, coldwave, and new wave, and 90s and 2000s chill wave, and electronica in general. Today we are seeing an explosion in retrowave, vaporwave, and now simpsonswave music, which, in my opinion, is fantastic.
I am wondering what gave impetus for this kind of explosion. It seems to me to coincidentally rise from around the time when dubstep started emerging as the new popular electronic music.
The amazing thing is that a lot of this music is fueled by artists and individuals who may or may not be part of any major club scene, and are instead focusing on redistribution through digital media such and soundcloud, and youtube. I may be wrong, and I'd love to get more insight on this.
