Is the ban system a bit much?

Hi there, hidralalo speaking.

Since when I was a teen, I remember liking this site for it's abundance of material and well organized it is, both for memes and fandoms alike. So after some time I made the consideration of start uploading images of my like.

I know I was a novice poster when I had a Mii Gunner mania hahaha, those where some times. But now I'm more experienced and wiser in regards of posting material to KYM. The subject that troubles me is that the ban system is a bit odd to my liking.

3 suspensions and you're out. It doesn't matter how much you post, how much you apport or how much you discuss: if you made three get away from here. I know there are rules and guidelines, yet sometimes some things can get out of our eyesight and make a mistake.

Having almost 3000 pics archived (currently) to the site and hanging in a string to not be banned, I'm a bit worried my effort will be forfeit. I would like to be a consideration for long posting users who are supporters of the site to those who just break the rules without care, since if a mod ban a user who was an active user of the site it would loose some material and potential on the long run and it (perhaps) will demotivate people from posting by being afraid of posting something that it would mess up their record and loosing it's account.

I hope someone can fix this or correct me since each day I'm playing Minesweeper extra difficulty hahaha, and most of the times there where mixups on regards of pics and I try not to do the same mistakes. Hope I'm not the only one with these kinds of happenings, I think there can be some people with my experience. Anayways thanks for listening :)

Wait, 3 suspensions and we're out?

This is a little harsh, I could understand Mods considering banning someone after 3 suspensions but 3 suspensions alone sounds like a bit too much.

But yes, I feel like whether or not the user made an honest mistake interpreting KYM's occasionally vague rules or if they're just breaking rules for the sake of breaking rules should factor in to if they're banned or not.

It was said to me via mail by mods. I searched the ruleset but I can't find that rule, I don't know what to think about it; but the mere possibilty of it concerns me :/

Every case is handled on an individual basis. A BrandNewMemeber that spams porn, shock images, or 'kill yourself' is not someone we waste time with an just spamban if we see it. After that, it gets more complicated.

As circumstances can vary, mods don't really have a hard-fast mandate on how punitive actions have to be carried out. If we see say, a user's comments that look like it is breaking rules, sometimes the context can reveal that multiple users were at fault and that bad behavior was spurned by other bad behavior. That isn't to say that makes it right, but sometimes things get heated, we get it.

Warnings are there to remind people to follow the rules, and unless rule-breaking is severe, this comes before suspensions. The number of warnings before suspension can vary. If you make multiple minor unrelated rule breaks, you might get quite a few warnings piled before suspensions occur. If you get one warning and immediately proceed to ignore it, then a suspension is often seen as warranted.

Also time since last warning/suspension can be another thing factored into it. While these never really become 'irrelevant' persay, having the same rule break years apart isn't nearly as significant as having it twice in one month.

We also are just more likely to listen to someone who has been productive and does something a bit crazy with a mostly clean record than someone who consistently finds themselves not following the rules. That having been said, even a former moderator with a record number of spam account bans did not preclude a ban.

Likewise, users that chronically show bad behavior (needlessly aggressive comments, only images that are nearly porn) etc that technically skirts around what the rules say verbatim aren't going to get much leniency when they do break rules.

I have to ask, why are you playing Minesweeper at all? From what I can tell, most your infractions are media related for pushing too far on NSFW. Looking through your gallery, you have a lot of stuff that isn't that. NGL, I was thinking I was going to see a softcore stash and that's not what I saw. I know a few users that we came pretty close to banning years ago who were in similar situations that just stopped pushing the envelop and were fine.

TBH, since I've spent less time on the site the last few years, the users I generally know well are the ones I knew well before then. You're not really what I consider a bad user, nor one I think the site might be better without. Really, just make sure to verify that an image doesn't break rules before uploading. Feel free to join the discord and ask mods there (#media-help) as well. Even if there is later disagreement as to it being fine/not fine, there will be a record of it other mods can see so that it shouldn't count against you.

Huh, I see then. I get that judgement can be iffy sometimes, I just don't like that that's a thing, it can makes me tense in some ways haha.

Mmm my warnings have been having a gap of 2-3 months…and having two suspensions (and the second being surprisingly sudden, thought I admit, it was a honest mistake I did) has made me a bit worried, still I try to follow the rules the best I can.

I dunno, sometimes some galleries (Example: the Darkstalkers thread) has girls that reveal skin, and it can quite fall a bit on the subjective area, including mods. So I put NSFW (but still I miss often…he), I love posting what I found, and also posting things I want the people to find; but the girl fanart makes me question most of the time (by now I usually ask a mod via mail) and that's what I refer to Minesweeper, hope I made myself clear.

I want to be good, to be better; but with the warnings and suspensions I had piled up, I became a bit worried. Nevertheles your reply quite helped me to understand more, so I can say nothing but: thank you.

Also there is a Discord? I never knew! If that's a better option I'll try it later. Thank you for notifying me :)

Again, case-by-case basis. You just need to be careful and ask if there are doubts. And spam bans are not given to non-spambots unless they are clearly fake accounts created to evade a ban, so content you upload will remain regardless of your account status.
All this being said, try to follow the rules to the best of your ability. A mistake every now and then won't cost you your account, but don't try to push the rules. Use common sense.

send mods feet pic and you'll never get banned

You're late on the new batch, Pooch.

The clock is ticking.

Getting banned is not the problem, inconsistent rules are.
If you can trust that the rules of the game stay the same, you can make sure you aren't crossing the line.
