Alrighty people. As we're all well-aware by now, Cringeworthy's gallery has been locked. That was due to a LOT of misuse and abuse. And, as we're also all well-aware of, Reaction Faces is also a very misused gallery.
Let's use recent events as a call to action. It's time to sort out the Reaction Faces gallery as best we can, because the longer we wait the worse it's going to get.
For this to work, we're going to need decent number of dedicated Scrapbookers with a good sense of judgement, as well as cooperation with the Image Moderators. There's two main things to do in Reaction Faces: tag and move.
Using our ability to tag images, Scrapbookers will browse every Reaction Face, one-by-one, and use their own best judgement to tag with the appropriate emotion (or emotions). I suggest using very specific tags in the format "reaction:emotion" (ie "reaction:happy" or "reaction:rage"). While we're at it, make sure to tag source material for anime and manga, games an cartoons, and so on. A LOT of Reaction Faces have zero tags.
The current issue with Reaction Faces is that pretty much every image can be argued to be a "reaction image." However, a majority of them are only usable in very specific situations. As much as I'd love to use, say, this gif as a reaction, it'll be a long while before I'm in a situation where said gif is applicable. That's why Reaction Faces is misused so much; users don't stop and think just how relevant their reaction image can or can't be (myself included).
Along with tagging emotions, Scrapbookers will tag images that don't belong in the gallery with "reaction:NOT." Once the Scrapbookers' work is done, the Image Moderators can sort through the undesirables of Reaction Faces by simply using that tag, and they can choose whether to keep it, move it, or delete it.
Another benefit of using this emotion tag system is that it will stop re-uploads of images in other galleries to Reaction Faces; re-uploading will no longer be justified because the preexisting image can be tagged with a reaction emotion even if it isn't in Reaction Faces.
I'm left here with one problem though, which needs to be discussed. The system of emotion tags needs to be kept throughout, but just what emotions should be used? Going through my old psychology book, a small eight-emotion system I took a liking to is Plutchik's eight of Fear, Joy, Acceptance, Sadness, Anger, Surprise, Disgust, and Anticipation. I suggest using these eight as a base and adding up to four more emotions.
Thoughts?
