I was thinking about what if we had more satirical and ironic humor in our articles to attract a more sophisticated demographic for our site.

Here is a little example I made if we had an article on Reagan/Reaganomics and incorporated satire in judicious amounts.

I am so tired of listening to people not getting a boner when Reagan is mentioned in causal conversation. I admit I liked Reagan for his simple way of explaining what he wanted from a bill or a policy and that this gets me moist. But when it came to things such as economics, he was simply the most brilliant President to have a perfect understanding of how to strength the economy. His brilliance was called Reaganomics.

Here is what Reaganomics entails.

Deduct government spending,
Reduce income and capital gains marginal tax rates,
Reduce government regulation of the economy,
Control the money supply to reduce inflation.

This is suppose to cause the wealth to trick down. Not only does the method of give me more power to acquire wealth, less regulations so I can go about my collection of wealth, and exploitation of of the common worker. But it also suggests that "we" who benefit from Reaganomics are like the master of the house while all the poor people are dogs who are fighting for the nice, juicy bones to fall to the ground. This is my favorite part about the whole Reaganomics. The accurate comparison to that of animals and poor people. It is so funny cause it is true.

All this talk about how a strong middle class and regulation is silly. Like long term economic stability structured around the group with the majority of economic power actually makes me more wealthy? Hahaha, foolish plebeians. This is not the way things work. So keep giving me more power and one day, you might catch one of my juice bones.

I think it would be good if we started incorporating satire in our articles much like I did with this little essay.

I think this is a good idea but are you saying that KYM readers are not sophisticated?

The meme database is meant to be factual, not too satirical. We don't write articles for the sake of pushing an idea or agenda; we document, observe, and analyze memes.

I agree, Reaganomics is silly.

If you happen to FIND an existing meme that satirizes Reaganomics, then you're welcome to write a meme entry that provides some OBJECTIVE background about the subject, primarily focusing on the spread of each instance. You can even draw some comparisons between the meme and other pieces of media that might share a common theme for the sake of providing better context, but in order for the meme entry to be on topic and get moved to the Confirmed section, it has to be about a meme.

Also, we don't write opinion pieces.

I guess with a -2 and only two other posts I'm glad I used you guys as a testing model before I made "juice bones" public. The world isn't ready for it yet, you're all so right.

You pose an interesting idea. However, there is an issue with it.

KYM isn't a satirical site, but rather a database.

But, if KYM wanted to improve, here's some things to keep in mind:

The thing is that KYM tries to give a "unbiased" logical source for internet culture (kind of like Wikipedia). However, I've noticed, just like Wikipedia, it has a lot of false information. For example, in the "Rules of the Internet" article it makes a claim that ED had forums in 2006, yet ED's forums didn't go online until 2009. KYM has a lot of inaccurate and copied information.

If KYM wanted to improve itself, it needs to realize that a lot of the "memes" that are contained are not actually memes. KYM has a lot of general internet culture related materials other than memes (i.e. Epic Beard Guy, "Lurk moar," etc.) and needs to be more original in it's writings, and not to mention that real factual information needs to be used.

Also, lol at how OP compared poor people to animals.

@How is an article on a meme suppose to be objective? It isn't like some historical event like the founding of America or the collapse of Third Riech. It is an article about a cultural event that is intended to be humorous, all forms of cultural things are based on personal bias, as it is humor. Either you like it or don't. Why would you intentionally make something that is clearly subjective like humor into objective categories?

KYM is a meme documentary site. A documentary that uses satire is a mockumentary. KYM is not a mockumentary site.

Watcher: Thanks for the insight. As a novice in these matters, it's always good to be able to peer through the same lens as an experienced film maker and learn a little of the technical parlance as well. "Mockumentary" and "documentary". Now, that's definitely not a monochrome view!

Dr. Rice: KYM is not a mockumentary site. For example, look at this (https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/fucking-magnets-how-do-they-work). If you read this, you'll notice the technical, dry tone. No jesting, no irony, no wit. None of those types of things.

Its not like KYM tries to be dry and boring. We just don't do satire articles. Our articles use fact. If you want satire try Encyclopedia Dramatica or Uncyclopedia.

To be honest, no. KYM's videos are supposed to be funny, but the meme entries are supposed to be documentation of how and why a meme spread, and what the meme means. The meme itself can be funny, but this is a user-generated database of information, not a satirical website.

Watcher: Encyclopedia Dramatica? That moribund pissant of a wiki? I would rather bathe in a discarded 60's cyclotron. They do extremely unorthodox things when they cover memes. For example, they make use of humor, and sometimes talented people converge to produce an interesting and thorough article. I come to KYM for a reason, and that's because I simply am too busy to read long articles. I prefer that discussion about memes is done in a freeze-dried and skillfully witless fashion. If it doesn't read like a Boeing technical manual, I'll take my erection and swivel chair elsewhere.

I agree, that is really dumb. Why would I want to see the facts of something? Facts aren't enjoyable, the drama that went along with the facts is much more interesting.

I think that KYM needs to change their focus a little in order to remain popular.

ED already tells people what memes are in a straightforward manner. I consider the articles on there to be very informative. Know your Meme should take a funnier, subtly satirical approach that in my opinion, ED lacks.

Steven R. is apparently unaware that satirical doesn't negate that something can actually give proper information, hence why there's a lot of copy pasta on KYM from other sites.

Satire and parodies have been used even in politics.
I wouldn't mind if Rocketboom expanded into satire. That would probably be a good thing.
However, it shouldn't be KYM itself.

When I think satire I think of satan.

Know Your Meme is a wholesome site I let my children read. ED is a site for hackers, criminal scum and mischeif makers.

Okay, Hyperbeings are theoretical beings that exist in M-Theory. If these beings existed, they would certainly appear to be Divine beings as we are unable to comprehend them as they exist in a higher dimension, but they are able to manifest themselves within our dimension. However, since we live in the 3rd dimension, we cannot see things that exist in a higher dimension in their entirety. A being from 11th dimension (which is the highest) would likely be called "God" by a more ignorant people if he appeared before them.
