About

Air Mattress Ashley is a slang term and nickname for a woman who sleeps with husbands and boyfriends, representing a low standard that men often go for. An Air Mattress Ashley is known to enjoy helping such men cheat and finds pleasure in knowing that they already have a partner. The term was coined on TikTok in early 2021 but became more well-known in February 2023 after a TikToker named @meeshell719 inspired female TikTokers to call her "Air Mattress Ashely," degrading her based on the humorous idea that she didn't have a bed and only an air mattress to sleep on. The TikTok trend of duets and stitches with @meeshell719's videos inspired the use of the song "Last Night" by Morgan Wallen to follow the trend. Many women also got reaction videos from their husbands on the matter as well.

Origin

On May 29th, 2021, TikToker[1] @reyofsunshine76 posted a video in which she was ranting to the camera about why women get so mad when their men cheat. TikToker @reyofsunshine76 emphasized how women pass up on many men, using alliterated nicknames like "Sugar Daddy Sam" and "Free Food Fred" to portray her point. Her final example was a woman named "Air Mattress Ashley" who she portrayed as a "low bar" that men often cheat with compared to the many, viable men that women pass up on all the time based on their loyalty. Over the course of two years, the TikTok received roughly 5.6 million plays and 1.1 million likes (shown below).

On April 30th, 2022, TikToker[3] @amberlashae26 posted a video with text reading, "Dudes will have a king bed with a whole queen in it & then turn around a cheat with an air mattress Ashley," and earned roughly 176,300 plays and 7,400 likes in ten months (shown below, right).

Y'know, it's kind of interesting. When men try to portray other men as deeply undesirable, they mostly focus on making them ugly. And here apparently when women try to portray other women as deeply undesirable, they're focusing on them being poor. It's a kind of subtle reflection of the different standards each gender has, being shallow in wildly different ways…
