Air Mattress Ashley is a slang term and nickname for a woman who sleeps with husbands and boyfriends, representing a low standard that men often go for. An Air Mattress Ashley is known to enjoy helping such men cheat and finds pleasure in knowing that they already have a partner. The term was coined on TikTok in early 2021 but became more well-known in February 2023 after a TikToker named @meeshell719 inspired female TikTokers to call her "Air Mattress Ashely," degrading her based on the humorous idea that she didn't have a bed and only an air mattress to sleep on. The TikTok trend of duets and stitches with @meeshell719's videos inspired the use of the song "Last Night" by Morgan Wallen to follow the trend. Many women also got reaction videos from their husbands on the matter as well.

On May 29th, 2021, TikToker[1] @reyofsunshine76 posted a video in which she was ranting to the camera about why women get so mad when their men cheat. TikToker @reyofsunshine76 emphasized how women pass up on many men, using alliterated nicknames like "Sugar Daddy Sam" and "Free Food Fred" to portray her point. Her final example was a woman named "Air Mattress Ashley" who she portrayed as a "low bar" that men often cheat with compared to the many, viable men that women pass up on all the time based on their loyalty. Over the course of two years, the TikTok received roughly 5.6 million plays and 1.1 million likes (shown below).

this goes for females too though

After TikToker[1] @reyofsunshine76's video, "Air Mattress Ashley" became a notable nickname used to identify and make fun of women who help men cheat. For instance, about a year later on April 18th, 2022, TikToker[2] @lovelylulumay uploaded a lip-dub of @reyofsunshine76's video, earning roughly 184,100 plays and 34,100 likes in 10 months (shown below, left). On April 30th, 2022, TikToker[3] @amberlashae26 posted a video with text reading, "Dudes will have a king bed with a whole queen in it & then turn around a cheat with an air mattress Ashley," and earned roughly 176,300 plays and 7,400 likes in ten months (shown below, right).

TikToker @meeshell719 as Air Mattress Ashley

Starting in mid-2022,[4] TikToker @meeshell719 (since deleted) started earning duets and stitches from other creators that reacted to and mostly criticized her content. In early October 2022, TikToker @meeshell719 posted a video (since deleted) that showed herself sitting in her car with text reading, "'He has a Girlfriend' 🤪🤘🏻🙌🏻," inferring that she liked men who were already taken. The video earned many duets from creators who were critical of her. For instance, on October 8th, 2022, TikToker[5] @peter_vigilante posted a video that joked about tasing her, earning roughly 7.3 million plays and 897,800 likes in four months (shown below).

In mid-February 2023, TikToker @meeshell719 posted a video (since deleted) that had text overlay reading, "You better stop treatin your man like trash, or else he's gonna end up at my house with dinner ready and a case of cold beer when he gets
home." The video seemingly angered many female TikTok users who then started referring to @meeshell719 as "Air Mattress Ashley," such as TikToker[7] @savagebossbitch86 whose video, uploaded on February 15th, 2023, had, "drop the addy air mattress ashley. We got you. 😂," written in the caption. It received roughly 61,100 plays and 3,900 likes in four days (shown below).

Y'know, it's kind of interesting. When men try to portray other men as deeply undesirable, they mostly focus on making them ugly. And here apparently when women try to portray other women as deeply undesirable, they're focusing on them being poor. It's a kind of subtle reflection of the different standards each gender has, being shallow in wildly different ways…
