Alexa, Intruder Alert refers to humorous intruder alarm routines for a virtual assistant Amazon Alexa. Usually based on popular fandoms, the routines often refer to recognizable fight or action scenes.
Origin
On January 22nd, 2019, Redditor[1] EsG_Nitro posted an Alexa routine triggered by saying "Alexa, intruder alert" to /r/me_irl subreddit. The post gained over 53,700 upvotes in one day. A repost[2] to /r/funny subreddit received additional 26,500 upvotes in 24 hours.
Spread
On the same day, Redditor[3] jtylerodle reposted the image to /r/MemeEconomy subreddit, where it gained over 28,100 upvotes. In the comments, Redditor[4] Wolfey1618 provided a template for the meme (shown below, left). The posts were followed by new variations of the meme appearing on /r/tf2[5], /r/ShitPostCrusaders[6], /r/hiphopcirclejerk[7] and other subreddits.
On YouTube, Twitter and other platforms, several users posted videos in which they tested the original "Intruder Alert" routine.
