Overview
Samuel L. Jackson Nick Fury's Eyepatch Controversy refers to actor Samuel L. Jackson's reaction to the poster design for the 2019 Marvel film Spider-Man: Far From Home starring Jackson. In the poster, Jackson's character Nick Fury's signature eyepatch is covering the incorrect eye, causing Jackson to criticize the image online.
Background
On June 20th, 2019, Redditor [1] TheBois24 posted an image of two Spider-Man: Far From Home posters, featuring Nick Fury, in the /r/crappydesign subreddit. However, in each poster, Fury's eyepatch is covering a different eye. They titled the thread "So which eye did he injure?" The post received more than 43,000 points (95% upvoted) and 790 comments (shown below).
Samuel L. Jackson's Reaction
On June 23rd, Samuel L. Jackson shared the image on Instagram. [2] He wrote, "Uhhhhhhh, What In The Actual FUCK IS GOING ON HERE???!!! #headsgonroll #lefteyemuthafukkah." The post received more than 385,000 likes in five days (shown below).

Online Reaction
That day, Jackson also shared the post on Twitter, [3] where people responded to his reaction and the poster. Twitter[4] user @Liz_UNfair tweeted, "Nick Fury occasionally moving his eyepatch from one side to the other with no explanation would be a great running joke" (shown below, left). Twitter[5] user @WheatZeppelin tweeted,"Marvel can make 22 amazing movies but their poster team can't keep Nick Fury's eyepatch on one consistent eye SMH" (shown below, right).
Others joked about an episode of the Spider-Man animated series in which Spider-Man recognized a false Nick Fury due to the eye they wore their eyepatch. Twitter[6] user @spideysensey tweeted, "throwback to the plotline for an ep of Spider-Man TAS when Chameleon used the pic from J Jonah Jameson’s obituary for Nick Fury’s (faked) death where he flipped the img and got the eye patch on the wrong side so that’s how Spidey realized Chameleon wasn’t really Nick Fury ksjdbjx" (shown below).
