"Hearsay" is a 1987 soul-and-R&B song by the American singer Alexander O'Neal, originating from his 1987 album of the same name. Since then, "Hearsay" has went on to be made famous as a meme by TimzUneeverse.

Origins

Somewhere between July and August 1987, Tabu Records released the 1987 album Hearsay by Alexander O'Neal, which featured the title song as its second track. Songs on the album aside from that track were the newly-released singles "The Lovers", "Fake", "Criticize", and "Never Knew Love Like This" (a duet sung with Cherrelle).

Expansion to Memes

On November 18, 2017, TimzUneeverse uploaded the end credits of the final episode of the Disney XD cartoon Gravity Falls but with its instrumental track replaced by O'Neal's song "Hearsay" (seen below). Since then, the video went on to gain over 300 views on YouTube, making it a rough start for the "Hearsay" meme.

Timz later attempted to upload several different videos with the same song, but in forms of other memes, including "We Are Number One" from the children's series LazyTown and "S Stands For…" from the anime Blend S, but neither of those were able to pursue a large amount of views.

Later, on February 11, 2018, Timz tweeted the opener line from the song, "Spreadin' on my name, all over town" to Twitter, finally proclaiming "Hearsay"'s resurgence as a meme.
