About
Amandaishere.jpg, or The Amandaishere.jpg Challenge, is a creepypasta involving a pixelated photo of a woman without eyes. While much of the story is unknown, videos of the photo, bookended by cryptic text about her death, spread on various message boards. Many insinuate that the woman in the picture will haunt those responsible for her death and/or those watching the video.
Origin
On December 28th, 2020, Vimeo user Awful published the earliest known version of the "Amandaishere.jpg" video. The video was removed a short time later. However, that day, YouTuber [1] user "Images and Video" published a video entitled "Amandaishere.jpg creepy urban legend." In the video, text precedes the video that explains the origins of the image, stating that the image first circulated online between 2017 and 2018 and some created urban legends around the photo. It continues, "It was said that this was the wife of the person that took the photo. Or that this picture makes people insane. Or that, if you see it, something bad is about to happen." Within one month, the video received more than 2,900 views (shown below).
Spread
Following the publishing of the two videos, the image from the clip began spreading on various platforms. On December 30th, an anonymous 4chan [2] user posted the image on the /ic/ imageboard. They wrote, "Her arms living down neck the fingers." This is the text found in some Amandaishere.jpg videos. Another user posted a screenshot of a message that features a link to the Vimeo and reads, "But now for you The Amandaishere.jpg challenge" (shown below).
That day, Redditor Biraccola asked about the challenge in the /r/OutOfTheLoop[3] subreddit, where the post did not receive any responses.
On January 5th, Vimeo user Awful began posting more video related to the story. The first video opens with the text, "Were fingers mad broken and here is the thing but wet insane the shed veil here finger comes bones white bury her neck arms vitals stolen robber no here" (shown below, left). They also posted another video that features the image and the text, "If she sees you…you defend yourself or they will found only your arms. She was murdered… She is angry. Tell her story around. Don't let people forget her."
On January 8th, an anonymous 4chan[4] posted about the Amandaishere.jpg challenge in the /x/ paranormal imageboard. They wrote:
Why did you do It? You… I'm so sorry that you didn't get the help you needed. But why did you hurt me like It? You pushed my head under the water of that lake. The first thing that l remember was the cold, wet sensation on my face. I remember how harshly you grabbed my hair to keep me underwater. I remember you kicking me in the chest. I remember you trying to strangle me. I still have bruises on my neck. I remember watching the gray Sky over me, wondering when It would end. I remember feeling my ribs breaking like glass. I remember you cutting off my ring finger with those rusty big blades. I remember you showing me my wedding ring. I remember you shooting me in my stomach. I remember you pressing your fingers in my eyes. That hurt so much. I remember you burying me. I remember trying to get out. I remember moving my arms in the cold air of the night. I remember giving up to die. I remember being here. And I remember you.
