On December 27th, 2023, X^[1] page @LyricVault shared a video of a blonde woman dressed all black with white socks bouncing sideways up a set of wooden stairs. The woman's face cannot be seen clearly while she tries the TikTok dance trend and she ends up hitting her head while falling the stairs. The post (shown below) alleges “Amy Schumer hospitalized after attempting TikTok trend. Sources say she’s in critical condition,” which amassed over 32 million views and 34,000 likes in a day.

On December 28th, 2023, News Week^[2] posted a fact check about Schumer’s being hospitalized rumor and explained the rumor stemmed from a parody account on X. The hoax also inspired a series of jokes and ironic reactions about the comedian being injured. For instance, on December 28th, X^[3] user @DArmstrong44 posted a video (shown below) paired with the caption “Amy Schumer opening Twitter and seeing why she’s trending,” which received roughly 56,000 views and 115 likes in a few hours.
