Angry School Boy is an advice animal image macro series featuring a photograph of an aggravated-looking young boy in front of a color wheel background. The captions typically depict the character as a spoiled child that is easily irritated by peers, adults and video games.

Origin

The original screen capture of the boy comes from a scene in the 2005 dark comedy film The Chumscrubber, in which the character Charlie is shown wielding a bloody knife (shown at 1:05 below).

On August 27th, 2011, an "Angry School Boy" Quickmeme^[2] page was launched, with the first instance featuring the caption "Mom asks if I need to go pee pee in front of my friends / Mom must die" (shown below). The same day, Redditor gtw08 submitted the image macro to the /r/AdviceAnimals^[4] subreddit.

Spread

On August 29th, 2011, compilations of notable examples were posted on the viral content site BuzzFeed^[10] and the Internet humor site The Bigster.^[7] On August 30th, the Internet humor blog Thumbpress^[9] published a post titled "The Best of the Angry School Boy Meme", which featured additional image macros from the series. On September 30th, Redditor DrKnutstein submitted an image macro to the /r/AdviceAnimals^[11] subreddit with the caption "It's not a boner / It's my jeans" (shown below, left). On January 1st, 2012, FunnyJunk^[8] user pwnddatnoob submitted an image macro with the caption "You said you'd pack my Gameboy mom / this is a fucking calculator!" (shown below, right).

The meme has spread on the sites Tumblr^[5] and Memebase^[6] under the tag "#angry school boy." As of September 5th, 2012, the Angry School Boy Meme Generator^[1] page has accumulated over 24,000 items, the "Angry School Boy" Quickmeme page has received over 3,200 submissions and a Facebook^[12] page titled "Angry School Boy" has received 120 likes.
