About
The Anti-Weezer Gun, also known as the Anti-Podcast Gun, refers to a photograph of a four-barrel duck's foot pistol (or volley gun) that gained virality online after an X / Twitter post in mid-2021 claimed it could be used to shoot "four evenly-spaced dudes." The photograph of the gun has since been used together with images of four people or characters standing next to each other, most notably the cover art of Weezer's Blue Album, with memes implying that the gun would be the perfect tool to kill them all at once based on the trajectory of the barrels.
Origin
On December 10th, 2019, Redditor PastaManMario posted two images of duck's foot pistols, four-barrel handguns used in the 18th century and earlier to shoot several projectiles at the same time, commenting, "Quad pistol, inflicts low damage to multiple enemies, can leave bleeding effect, rare gold version enhances stats." The humorous post received over 670 upvotes in the /r/ItemShop subreddit[1] in four years (shown below).
Spread
On January 15th, 2020, Redditor ObliviousOblong posted[2] one of the images to /r/HistoryMemes, captioning the image, "When you're a soldier in the 19th century and your horizontal aim sucks but your vertical aim suffices." The post (shown below) accrued over 3,000 upvotes prior to being removed.
On April 28th, 2021, X[3] / Twitter user @2D array posted the image with the caption "when you need to shoot exactly four evenly-spaced dudes," gaining over 5,000 reposts and 31,000 likes in three years (shown below, left).
On April 29th, X[4] user @Devon_OnEarth quoted the post, attaching the cover of Weezer's Blue Album. The post (shown below, center) gained over 3,100 reposts and 21,000 likes in three years. Later that day, X[5] user @Haurmeya also made a quote post, writing, "say your prayers weezer." The post (shown below, right) received over 15,000 reposts and 46,000 likes in three years.
The latter post received viral spread online through reposts. For example, on September 23rd, 2021, iFunny[6] user BetaKek posted it, gaining over 12,800 smiles in two years. On March 11th, 2021, Tumblr[7] user oneheadtoanother made a repost that garnered over 10,800 reposts and 14,700 likes in two years.
In 2021 and 2022, the image saw more use as it was combined with images of four people or characters standing equidistant from each other. For example, on August 4th, 2021, Redditor InfernoSlayer combined it with an image depicting the main group of Konosuba characters, with the post accumulating over 4,800 upvotes in the /r/Konosuba[8] subreddit in two years (shown below).
