Origin

On March 6th, 2021, Twitter [1] user @gendenslow tweeted a video of a physical altercation between two customers at the Bath and Body Works at Arizona's Fashion Square Mall in Scottsdale, AZ. They captioned the video, "A whole fight just happened at bath & body works Rolling on the floor laughingRolling on the floor laughingRolling πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ I’m dying πŸ˜‚." The post received more than 10.5 million views, 198,000 likes, 60,000 retweets in less than three days (shown below).

Following the post, people began joking about the video, making puns about the name of the store that reference the fight. For example, on March 6th, Twitter[2] @edsbs retweeted the video and wrote, "Bath and bodied works" (shown below, left). The verified Barstool Sports Twitter[3] account shared the video with the caption, "Bath and Body Works: 3 wick candles with a side of these HANDS." The tweet received more than 25,000 likes and 5,000 retweets in less than two days (shown below).



Comedian Blair Erskine posted a parody of a response from one of the women in the fight. The post received more than 86,000 views 5,300 likes and 700 retweets in less than two days (shown below).

On March 7th, Twitter user @MelMel1082 tweeted a video capturing a second angle of the fight. They wrote, "So the Bath and Body Works fight happened at the Fashion Square Mall in Scottsdale, AZ. Allegedly, the backstory is that the Karen was not wearing a mask and harassed masked customers. She also called the N-word to the lady she was standing close to. This is another angle." The tweet received more than 143,000 views and 1,600 retweets in less than 24 hours (shown below).

That day, Redditor subiegyal posted the video in the /r/trashy[8] and received more than 1,000 points (98% upvoted).
