The drawing of which "Awkward Hayley" originated was first introduced on March 18th, 2017 via Hayley Williams' Twitter account. It wasn't until very recently (March 25th) when the meme began to spark. This was caused when Williams spammed the image a total of nine times on Instagram; Three of them being cropped to be small, three being medium, and three being full images to form a perfect symmetrical design on Hayley's Instagram profile. Fans of Paramore didn't hesitate to use this new image as a meme template. As of March 26th, 2017, it is also Hayley's latest tweet, as well as Zac Farro's (current drummer of Paramore).
