About
Bad Makeup Challenge is a series of TikTok videos in which participants record themselves poorly applying makeup to their face before transitioning into footage in which they are wearing properly applied makeup set to the 2015 pop song "Wrong" by MAX.
Origin
On December 18th, 2015, "Wrong" (featuring Lil Uzi Vert) was released as the second single from the album Hell's Kitchen Angel by MAX.

Precursor
Prior to the emergence of "Bad Makeup Challenge" on TikTok, there have been numerous selfie trends centered around the theme of intentionally making oneself look unattractive such as the Don't Judge Challenge, the Sellotape Selfie Challenge and Kylie Jenner Challenge, not to mention the Pretty Girls, Ugly Faces photo fad that juxtaposes one's least attractive-looking self-portrait with his or her most photogenic counterpart.
Spread
On November 4th, 2018, YouTuber Med King posted a "Bad Makeup Challenge" compilation (shown below, left). On November 22nd, YouTuber 74johanes posted another compilation (shown below, right).
