About

"Bikini Barista" Seattle Coffee Drive Thru Fight Video refers to a viral video in which a customer and a "bikini barista" get into an altercation at the drive-thru window of A Taste of Heaven Espresso in Seattle, Washington in June 2024. In the clip, the customer was angry about the price of his order and tossed iced coffee at the barista, to which she retaliated by slamming a hammer into his windshield and breaking it. Online, the barista, whose name is Emma Lee, was celebrated by many for retaliating against an unruly customer, though she may face legal problems.

Origin

On June 14th, 2024, Fox13 Seattle posted a story[1] about an altercation that took place at a Seattle coffee establishment called A Taste Of Heaven Espresso in which a customer, angry with the price of his beverages, tossed the beverages at the barista and owner, Emma Lee, working the drive-thru window. Fox13 also posted security footage of the altercation to YouTube that day,[2] gaining over 316,000 views in three days (shown below).

According to Fox13's story, the altercation came after a 15-minute argument over the price of the customer's drinks: $22 for a 32 oz. coffee and a 24 oz. water. Lee stated that the customer grew violent during that time, saying he was "screaming, spitting, and trying to pry open the window."

After the customer threw the beverages at Lee, she retaliated by bashing his windshield with a hammer. She filed charges against the customer for misdemeanor assault, and Fox13 reports she could be taken to small claims court for the price of his windshield.

The argument happened after the man started complaining about the $22 price tag on his 32-ounce coffee and 24-ounce water. Lee spoke out about the incident on Instagram. "[Women] work alone in this industry, wearing nearly nothing and interacting with men (most of which we don't know) all day." "The majority of people we meet throughout our shifts are kind, respectful, overall amazing humans!" "However, on occasion we see the ones that think it is appropriate to get violent both verbally and physically." "This wasn't his first time being aggressive but it is the first time he's ever gotten physically violent with me. He had gotten what he had paid for and was mad about the price." 0:48 + 12:42 PM - Jun 15, 2024 18.1M Views

All the people going "I don't condone her response" must not have read the article:

> Lee stated that the customer grew violent during that time, saying he was "screaming, spitting, and trying to pry open the window."

This part makes it a pretty clear case of self-defense. If he was trying to pry open the window, I consider that a credible threat of violence. If anything, the barista would have been right to hit him with the hammer, he's lucky she only went for a "warning shot" into his windshield.

Standard ESH. But in a vigilante justice way you can't help but side a little bit with the barista on this one.

Fellas. Treat retail staff with respect and dignity; they go through so much absolutely pointless shit because of people like this. It's amazing how much you can see their faces light up when you treat them with absolutely bare minimum politeness- smile, use "Sir" or "Ma'am" (yes this can get you into trouble very occasionally with the pronouns crowd; do it anyway and just apologize when you get it wrong and move on.) and just otherwise treat them like human beings instead of acting like a feral animal for no goddamn reason. Getting mad about the price of something you already paid for? Look at the price in advance instead of acting foolish.

This stuff is really not difficult, and if more people lived by it we'd be one step closer to having a society that isn't coming apart at the seams. By the way, this isn't all about making strangers happy either. The first time I got laid was with a clerk who I got along with because I was one of her few customers who treated her politely. I won't call it karma, but being a decent person does tend to come back around and reward you on occasion.
