Bleach Blonde Bad Built Butch Body is a catchphrase that originates from a 2024 House Committee Hearing. The phrase was uttered by Democratic Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett in response to a provocation from Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene after the two exchanged insults. The quote then came to be used as a caption for memes and as a punchline to jokes in May 2024, which inspired Crockett to file a trademark for the phrase.

Origin

On May 16th, 2024, the House Oversight Committee held a hearing to decide if U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland could be held in contempt of Congress. During the hearing, Georgia Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene responded to a question posed by Texas Democrat Jasmine Crockett by saying, "I think your fake eyelashes are messing up what you’re reading."

Despite receiving backlash, Chairman James Comer said that Greene’s insult ultimately did not violate House rules, to which Crockett responded by saying, "If someone on this committee then starts talking about somebody’s bleach blond, bad-built butch body, that would not be engaging in personalities, correct?" (shown below).

X^[1] user @notcapnamerica was one of the first to report the interaction, posting a transcript to his X / Twitter account on May 16th, 2024, and gathering over 166,000 likes in four days (seen below).

According to USA Today,^[5] on May 19th, 2024, Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, filed a trademark application Sunday for rights to the phrase “BLEACH BLONDE BAD BUILT BUTCH BODY.”
