About
Marjorie Taylor Greene Divorce refers to the filing of divorce paperwork and the cheating allegations that led to them by Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene's husband Perry Greene in late September 2022. According to political commentators, the divorce stems from cheating accusations regarding her crossfit instructor that could purportedly have an impact on her upcoming reelection. Following news and speculation surrounding the controversy, viral discussions, memes and other posts referencing the divorce appeared online, particularly reports that the man is a Zangief cosplayer.
Origin
On September 28th, 2022, it was reported that Perry Greene had filed for divorce under seal, meaning that the cause written down will be unable to be read unless unsealed by another court order or stated by someone within the court or who has knowledge of the proceedings. Within an hour of the news making its way online, Twitch streamer and political commentator Hasanabi tweeted[1] out his speculation for the reason, being that MTG was allegedly cheating with her crossfit instructor (shown below).
Spread
News of the cheating allegations and divorce quickly became political as people started to notice some ironic things about this situation compared to how MTG got her start in politics.
For example, Twitter user @AmoneyResists[2] reminded people late on the night of September 28th, 2022, that in her original election, Greene's opponent was given divorce papers right before the election, forcing them to move states, which meant she ran unopposed and the same is now potentially happening to her with a divorce occurring right before reelection, earning 16,000 likes in 10 hours (shown below).
Aside from political discussions, the question of who the purported crossfit teacher was became a talking point when it was posted by the Daily Mail that the person was a Zangief cosplayer, as well as a "polyamorous tantric sex guru," which caused many people to have wildly different opinions on her.
For example, Twitter user and journalist @dancow[3] summed up the feelings of many with his tweet about how this was objectively the coolest thing about MTG (shown below). The tweet received over 30 likes in roughly 24 hours.
