Bruh Redditor refers to a grainy close-up image of a man looking at his phone. While the identity of the subject is unknown, some of have said that he resembles YouTuber Ice Poseidon's, describing him as a Redditor collecting upvotes.

Origin

The origin of the photograph is unknown. The earliest known usage of the image was published on Redditor^[1] by oksobasiclyni on July 30th, 2019 in the /r/bruhfunny subreddit. The image was captioned, "Redditors looking at their screens when their big chungus meme gets 5 updoots." The post received more than 1,200 (99% upvoted) in less than six months (shown below).

Spread

That day, Redditor^[2] MrFlumty shared the image in the /r/okbuddyretard subreddit, adding the caption "No don't kill your self ur too sexy haha." The post received more than 3,000 points (100% upvoted) and 50 comments in less than six months (shown below, left).

The selfie did not receive a specific name until August 11th, when iFunny^[3] user Sabojake uploaded the Chungus meme and added the caption "Bruh Redditor" (shown below, center).

Days later, YouTuber Grandayy tweeted ^[4] the Chungus meme and received more than 8,000 likes and 100 retweets.

On August 15th, Redditor^[5] vk000mk74 shared a variation in the /r/okbuddyretard subreddit that reads, "Are you fucking retarded or something? Don't talk over the teacher." The post received more than 7,000 points (99% upvoted) in less than six months (shown below, right).

The following year, on January 29th, 2020, Redditor^[5] the-bourgeoisie shared a variation in which the image features the caption "i'm so sorry that your cat died. Speaking of cats, pussy pics?" The post received more than 35,000 points (95% upvoted) and 200 comments in less than 24 hours (shown below, right).
