About
Buddy the Unicorn is the main antagonist of the 2026 postmodern supernatural comedy-horror slasher film Buddy, directed by Casper Kelly. He is depicted as a giant, anthropomorphic bright orange unicorn with a purple heart on his chest and a yellow mane, serving as the host of a fictional Barney-esque 1990s children's television show called It's Buddy!. The character went viral online following a massive marketing campaign and a wave of "parenting panic" memes, generating a massive surge of animation memes, TikTok parodies, and quote edits.
Origin
The character debuted in the first official trailer for Buddy, released by NEON in late 2025. In the film, Buddy (voiced by Keegan-Michael Key) trapped a group of children inside his studio set, forcing them into a state of mandatory, terrifying optimism.
On TikTok and YouTube, users immediately latched onto the stark, creepy contrast between Buddy's hyper-sanitized 90s aesthetic and his deeply violent outbursts.

"Parenting Panic" Memes
In early 2026, a series of satirical TikTok videos went viral claiming that parents were accidentally taking their young children to see Buddy, mistaking it for a genuine reboot of a classic preschool show. Users posted reaction videos featuring fake audio of children crying in movie theaters, captioned with variations of: "When you thought you were taking your toddler to a cute unicorn movie but it's a Casper Kelly film."
Animation Memes & Parodies
On YouTube and Twitter/X, digital animators began creating "Animation Memes" using the film's theme song, re-animating Buddy's eerie dances with other popular horror characters (such as Huggy Wuggy or Freddy Fazbear).
Quote Edits
Buddy’s core catchphrases from the film--most notably his distorted, slow-motion delivery of "It's time to be happy now!"--became heavily utilized audio templates on TikTok for videos depicting high-stress situations, corporate burnout, or forced retail smiles.
"Wade, you know that's a lie!"
"Wade, you know that's a lie!" (often extended to "Wade, you know that's a lie, and lying is very bad!") is a catchphrase and trending audio clip originating from the 2026 horror film Buddy. The quote is spoken by Buddy the Unicorn, an orange puppet character from a fictional children's show within the movie. In late 2026, the audio became widely popularized on TikTok and Instagram as a backing track for phonk-style edits, character animations, and reaction memes.
